Darkthrone are back. The Norwegian black metal institution has confirmed Pre-Historic Metal as the title of their new studio album, set for release on 05/08 via Peaceville Records.
The announcement lands hot on the heels of The Fist In The Face Of God, the recently issued box set revisiting the band’s foundational black metal years. Now Fenriz and Nocturno Culto — currently marking 40 years since their earliest formation as Black Death — are ready to drag something new out of the primordial dark.
The title track video, directed by Matthew Vickerstaff, can be seen below.
Fenriz isn’t overthinking the title. “Prehistoric is a loose term,” he says. “I just figure it’s our vibe, our take on things, and it’s more of a statement that we use old style to create something new.”
Picking up where 2024’s It Beckons Us All left off, Pre-Historic Metal is built on primal riffs and a sound rooted firmly in the spirit of the ’70s and ’80s. The record charts a course through thrash, black, heavy, and doom metal, with Darkthrone reportedly leaning harder into the writing instincts of their late-’80s output — but with the craft sharpened rather than softened.
Fenriz lays it out plainly: “It means that we are metal. With very loud guitars. ‘Frightfully barbaric but not without finesse’, I call it. We collaborated in the studio more than ever, who’s playing what is still in a purple haze, but last but not least, it was a sort of hardening of the arteries — we decided to tighten the tourniquet and do eight effective songs brimming with riffs instead of the airy plodding we so much enjoy usually.”
The album was recorded at Chaka Khan Studios in Oslo, with production handled by Ole Øvstedal, Silje Høgevold, and Mads Luis. Mastering duties went to Jack Control at Enormous Door and Maor Appelbaum Mastering.
The Dead Daisies are bringing their live show to your living room — for real this time. Live Plus Five arrives on CD on 05/01 and on vinyl on 05/15, both editions landing physically in the USA and Canada via limited runs of 2CD and 2LP.
The release is built around Live At Stonedead, their full set from the U.K.’s Stonedead festival on 08/23/2025, and expanded with five additional tracks pulled from headline dates across Europe and the States. Those bonus cuts come from La Rayonne in Lyon, Picturedrome and Rock City in the U.K., and the legendary Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles — all captured during 2024 and 2025.
Guitarist Doug Aldrich didn’t hide his enthusiasm for how the project came together: “We had such a fantastic run during the last tour in the U.K.! Stonedead festival was one of the highlights featuring the latest setlist and songs from the history of the band, including our last album ‘Lookin’ For Trouble’. Now, we’ve gone next level and added five extra tracks from epic shows in the U.K., France, and L.A.! Hope you enjoy ‘Live Plus Five’!”
The physical editions go well beyond the previously released digital version. The CD comes with a full-color booklet, while the purple vinyl includes a dedicated insert — both loaded with setlists, show posters, and visual memorabilia from the road.
The band isn’t stopping there. The Dead Daisies are heading back into the studio later in 2026 to begin work on their next album, with an extensive European and U.S. tour pencilled in for 2027.
The Australian-American supergroup, founded by rhythm guitarist and businessman David Lowy, has spent over a decade building a reputation as one of rock’s hardest-working live acts. Seven studio albums in, they’ve toured alongside Kiss, Guns N’ Roses, Scorpions, Aerosmith, and Def Leppard, among others. Their most recent collection of originals, Light ‘Em Up, dropped in September 2024 through SPV and Japan’s Ward Records, produced by Marti Frederiksen — the man behind sessions with Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Jonny Lang, and Sheryl Crow. They also have Lookin’ For Trouble in their recent catalog — a full-length blues record tracked live at FAME Studios and released via Fame/Malaco Records, featuring covers of John Lee Hooker‘s “Boom Boom” and Robert Johnson‘s “Crossroads.”
Seether are set to drop a new digital-only EP, Beneath The Surface, on April 17 through Concord Records. The first single, “Into The Ground”, is already out, arriving with a lyric video.
Beneath The Surface extends the cycle behind the band’s latest album, The Surface Seems So Far, adding a few more tracks tied to those sessions. The EP features four songs, including two previously unreleased studio cuts — “Into The Ground” and “Proud Daddy” — both taken from the original The Surface Seems So Far recordings. It also includes live versions of “Lost All Control” and “Judas Mind”, recorded during a SiriusXM Octane session.
Bassist Dale Stewart shared his thoughts on the release: “I’m really stoked about our new EP. “Into The Ground” really gets me pumped and “Proud Daddy” is one of my favorite songs from the last sessions we did.”
The Surface Seems So Far was released in September 2024 via Fantasy Records.
On the live front, Seether will hit the road this fall supporting Staind on the Break The Cycle 25th Anniversary Tour. The run takes place across September and October, with additional support from Hoobastank and Hinder. Produced by Live Nation, the 25-date trek begins September 8 in Atlanta and wraps October 19 in Austin, hitting amphitheaters and arenas across the U.S. and Canada.
Foo Fighters have released “Caught In The Echo”, the third single from their forthcoming 12th studio album Your Favorite Toy, out 04/24 via Roswell Records/RCA Records.
The track serves as the album opener and arrives as the most combustible preview yet of what the record has in store. Kicking off with a repeated “Do I? Do I? Do I? Do I?” and closing on “Who can save us now?”, it signals the kind of raw, live-room energy the band has been building toward — drawing comparisons to “Bridge Burning”, the opener from 2011’s Wasting Light.
Your Favorite Toy was recorded at home and co-produced by Foo Fighters and Oliver Roman, with engineering also handled by Roman and mixing by Mark “Spike” Stent.
To mark the single’s release, the band hid 20 personally burned CDs of the track across the San Fernando Valley — tucked into indie record shops, grocery stores, bookshops, and pharmacies — each one featuring hand-drawn artwork by Dave Grohl and his daughter Harper. Updates on the scavenger hunt are being posted to the band’s Instagram.
The album’s arrival kicks off the “Take Cover” world tour, with a North American stadium run launching 08/04 at Rogers Stadium in Toronto and wrapping 09/26 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Queens Of The Stone Age are confirmed as direct support on all dates except the 09/12 show in Fargo. A newly added 04/28 date at Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut has already sold out.
Behind the kit on all of it is Ilan Rubin — the former Nine Inch Nails drummer who joined Foo Fighters earlier in 2025, replacing Josh Freese. Rubin made his live debut with the band on 09/13/2025 at the Fremont Theater in San Luis Obispo, a surprise all-ages show for 900 people. Grohl introduced him from the stage that night with characteristic restraint: “Ladies and gentlemen, will you please welcome… The most badass motherfucker, Ilan Rubin, is playing drums in the Foo Fighters right now. It’s official. You can stamp the passport.”
Foo Fighters are Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear, Rami Jaffee and Ilan Rubin.
It’s a double dose of brand new music from Hunnu Rock pioneers The Hu.
The Gold-certified global phenomenon deliver “The Men” which is accompanied by an official music video, alongside “Warrior Chant,” both out now via Better Noise Music.
Traditional Mongolian strings herald the arrival of “The Men.” This organic swell gives way to a gritty and gruff groove-laden riff topped off with hypnotic vocals. The band’s signature hybrid of indigenous instrumentation, heavy-as-a-2×4 guitars, and transfixing tribal chanting makes for another essential anthem from The Hu. It’s tailor-made for an epic battle scene, climax of your favorite video game, or workout session. At the same time, it’s evocative of the musicians’ own tradition and heritage.
About “The Men,” Galaa commented: “‘The Men’ is written based on Mongolian philosophy of ‘Man’s Inner Spirit’ or ‘Хийморь’ and the importance of inner strength and kindness of a man to the world. Energy of men should always be reinforced with positiveness, strength and generosity, so this song try to encapsulate that ancient wisdom and share to the rest of humanity. Lyrics are chants that guides young and old men alike to be headstrong and to have dream that cultivate goodness. We only wanted to focus on the positives that can make a man ponder about who he is in this world and wonder about how he can have positive inner spirit when listening to it. Hope our fans will be able to capture every fiber of Mongolian Man’s way of living through this song.”
Then, there’s “Warrior Chant.” It lives up to its title with a hard-charging chorus and a tight and taut metallic soundscape. Between the horse head fiddle and instantly recognizable delivery, it immediately amplifies everything that fans have fallen in love with about the band in the first place.
Regarding “Warrior Chant,” Galaa added: “‘Warrior Chant’ has our signature rhythm that our fans fell in love with and everyone who will listen and know us will say that it is ‘our song.’ Our third album has bit of everything, rhythm-wise, and we see that as a progress of expanding the Hunnu Rock genre… Enkush and I focused on horse head fiddle solos by imitating the horse gait and you will hear the rhythm throughout the song.”
The Hu will team up with Cello Metal standouts Apocalyptica for a run of shows this May and June. The tour kicks off on May 12 in Silver Spring, MD and will take them across the country before wrapping in Anaheim, CA on June 7. Joining The Hu and Apocalyptica will be platinum-selling Finnish rock band The Rasmus.
Tickets and additional information on VIP packages is available here.
In addition to closing all shows on this tour, The Hu are celebrating the recent release of their latest single “The Real You,” which is “the representation of our new album, The Hun,” says Temka – Temuulen N (band’s tovshuur player, throat singer). “The Real You” is one of the few songs from The Hu in which Western music components are prominent.
And in other The Hu news, the band recently appeared on the song “Pray to the Sun,” featuring Declan de Barra, from the Netflix Japanese manga series One Piece. It’s another instance of the band and its music connecting with passionate fandoms, as their song “Sugaan Essena” was also prominently featured in the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order video game.

Ellefson-Soto have dropped two new cover tracks today — one from the king of rock and roll, one from the kings of L.A. punk — both recorded live during sessions at Battery Studios in London last July.
The duo, comprising former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson and vocalist Jeff Scott Soto, has taken on Elvis Presley‘s “Jailhouse Rock” and Fear‘s “I Don’t Care About You”, with both tracks captured and filmed live at the legendary London facility as part of the Rogue Recording sessions.
Ellefson makes no secret of where the inspiration came from. “The band Fear has been a staple of our attitude and style of music from the beginning,” he says. “And Elvis Presley has only become more legendary in recent years with so many films and documentaries about his iconic life. Let’s face it — he’s the one who showed us all how rock stardom was done from the start. So we thought it fitting to honor the king of rock and roll and the kings of punk rock at the same time.”
Soto frames the releases as a bonus for fans already plugged into the band’s 2025 album Unbreakable. “We wanted as many tools as possible to lure you into our recent album ‘Unbreakable’ so we all met up in London to make a few more videos for ya!” he explains. “BUT these two songs are NOT on the album — instead they are two cover jams that gave us more reason to have fun together… familiar in the punk world, Fear‘s ‘I Don’t Care About You’ and Elvis‘s ‘Jailhouse Rock’, delivered with in-your-face, no-mercy power!”
Both covers were recorded by Alessio Garavello at Rogue Recording, with video editing handled by Elia Turra. Blackstar Amps provided the backline for the sessions.
The timing puts the releases squarely ahead of the band’s upcoming live dates: a show at the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood on 04/09, followed by a run aboard the Monsters Of Rock Cruise from 04/12–17.
Ellefson-Soto — rounded out by guitarists Andy Martongelli and Walter Cianciusi, and drummer Paolo Caridi — have two studio albums to their name via Rat Pak Records: Vacation In The Underworld (2022) and Unbreakable (2025).
“For those we’ve lost, we are forever grateful for the love you taught us.”
The melodic hard rock band Hardline have released a new digital single and lyric video for “When You Came Into My Life”. The song is taken from the upcoming studio album Shout.
In addition to the nine songs which were composed for Shout by singer Johnny Gioeli, keyboard player Alessandro Del Vecchio, and guitarist Luca Princiotta, the cover version of the Scorpions classic “When You Came Into My Life” is definitely one of the biggest surprises on the new studio album.
Gioeli says: “A friend from Norway played me the song, I’d never heard it before. But it’s a real smash hit, which we’ve recorded in typical Hardline style out of respect for the Scorpions.”
The lyric video for the song is a tribute to the loss of personal animals and to neglected and abused dogs, as well as the loss of a loved one.
“Alessandro and I are great dog lovers,” says Gioeli. “For a number of years now, I’ve flown dogs from animal shelters as a pilot, saving them from being put down because nobody wants them. On tour, we will hand out glow sticks for a small donation, which people can hold up while we play the song and think of someone they have lost and who was particularly important to them.”
Shout will be released on April 17 through Steamhammer worldwide in the following configurations:
CD DigiPak
LP, 140 g, black vinyl, padded inner sleeve, coloured insert
Exclusive CD/LP Bundles with a shirt only at the Steamhammer shop
Poison The Well are thrilled to release Peace In Place, their first album in 16 years, today, March 20 via SharpTone Records, and to celebrate the band has shared the video for “Weeping Tones”.
“There’s a quiet loss of control that comes from feeling like you can’t fully be yourself anymore,” offers singer Jeffrey Moreira. “When you have to shrink who you are just to avoid judgment or conflict, it starts to feel like something is being taken from you. That’s what “Weeping Tones” is about.”
He continues: “This video reflects that struggle, but it also holds onto something stronger — the one thing no one can take from you: Your ability to give your love and energy to the people who matter most. No matter how heavy the world gets, no matter how much it tries to pull you apart, you can always choose to keep walking until you reach what matters most — hold it close, and never let go.”

Neurosis have returned without warning. The Oakland post-metal institution has surprise-dropped An Undying Love For A Burning World today via Neurot Recordings — their first new album in ten years, and by all accounts a statement of survival rather than a simple comeback.
The band wasted no words explaining why now. “We need this, perhaps more than ever, and we suspect we are not alone,” they write. “The trials and tribulations in our personal lives and as a band, combined with simply trying to navigate the insanity of our society, with the stress, anxiety, and isolation that come with it, can be excruciating. Add to that the existential confusion and sorrow of the climate crisis and the sixth mass extinction. It is enough to cause you to completely lose your mind if you can’t find release or catharsis.
“This strange, emotionally charged music has always been our method of trying to survive this, and this is what we’ve always been singing about. When you have spent a lifetime engaged with these energies and utilizing this form of expression to purge and purify, it feels detrimental to our well-being to let it sit idle and neglected. This was now or never.”
Joining the band on vocals and guitar is Aaron Turner — the man behind Sumac and ISIS, and a figure whose own artistic history has long run parallel to Neurosis‘s. The band describes his arrival as a natural fit. “He came straight out of the gate, contributing, writing, and presenting ideas. His energy matches ours perfectly. It’s as if he was always meant to be there.”
Turner himself is equally direct about the significance of the pairing. “From the moment I first heard Neurosis over 30 years ago, I felt this was the music my heart and mind had been seeking but not yet heard,” he says. “Now, after many years travelling along various musical paths of my own, the singular sound and spirit embodied by Neurosis continues to speak to the depths of my being. It is an honor and a true pleasure to have been welcomed so warmly into a band that not only shaped my perspective on the limitless possibilities of music but has lived and exemplified the necessity of upholding creative integrity and camaraderie above all else.”
On the question of whether this constitutes a reunion, the band is firm: this is not a reunion. They never broke up.
An Undying Love For A Burning World was recorded by Scott Evans (of Kowloon Walled City, Sumac, and And Great Falls) at Studio Litho in Seattle across three weekends this winter, then mixed in three days at Evans’s Antisleep Audio in Oakland — just six weeks before release.
Neurosis will also make their live return after a seven-year absence, playing Fire In The Mountains festival on the traditional lands of the Blackfeet Nation in Montana. The event is organised with the support of Firekeeper Alliance, a non-profit focused on reducing youth suicide in Indian Country. Guitarist Steve Von Till, who serves on the board of Firekeeper Alliance, described last year’s edition as the most profound music event of his life.
“I cannot think of a more appropriate environment for us to return to the stage,” he says. “Last year’s Fire In The Mountains festival was the most profound music event I have ever been a part of. The weekend took on a healing, cathartic, ceremonial nature that is difficult to put into words. Using emotionally heavy music to build community and collectively stare darkness in the eye is something we have always believed in, but using it to directly address the heartbreaking reality of suicide, grief, loss, and trauma is taking it to another level.”
Internationally acclaimed vocalist Alissa White-Gluz returns with “Checkmate,” a striking new single that marks a powerful evolution in both sound and creative vision.
Beloved for her commanding presence in extreme metal, White-Gluz steps forward here with a renewed sense of freedom, fully embracing the breadth of her vocal range and artistic identity. “Checkmate” showcases a dynamic fusion of melody, heaviness, and razor-sharp precision, delivering a track that is as catchy as it is emotionally resonant. The crushing new single was written by Alissa White-Gluz, Alyssa Day, and Dani Sophia, and mixed and mastered by Kile Odell.
“This is a song where everything just clicked,” says White-Gluz. “Checkmate is an extremely cathartic song for me. It was created in one of those flow states where the lyrics and melodies and rhythms just write themselves, and you get the feeling that you’re onto something powerful. It’s probably the heaviest thing I’ve written in terms of lyrics, and probably the lightest of what we have cooking in terms of sound. I wanted to share the intensity of these feelings with fans and give them something to hold onto. I’m so happy to see so much support for Blue Medusa already; fans can look forward to more dark, heavy, brutal, and haunting music very soon.”
Beyond the music, “Checkmate” also highlights White-Gluz’s expanding role as a visual storyteller. Co-directing the music video with Vicente Cordero of Industrialism Films – whom she previously collaborated with on high-ranking videos for “The Wolf You Feed” with Nita Strauss and “I Am a Machine” with Kat Von D – she brings a cinematic, detail-driven approach that elevates the track into a fully immersive experience.
Built around a unique, outside-the-box concept developed by White-Gluz, the video unfolds within a game of chess, where each move carries deliberate allegory and layered symbolism.
“I know what every frame is for,” jokes White-Gluz. “I’ll share that someday, but for now, I welcome fans to dive deeper into the meaning and develop their own interpretations. That’s what makes videos and movies fun and interesting, in my opinion.”
The result is a release that feels both familiar and refreshingly new, bridging the gap between longtime fans of her work and listeners discovering her for the first time. “Checkmate” balances melody with intensity, offering a thought-provoking and emotionally charged entry point into what promises to be a bold new chapter.
