It’s Sound And Fury lineup day, baby! The great festival, dedicated to hardcore and to stuff that isn’t hardcore but works in the same circles, returns to LA’s Exposition Park Aug. 15-16. I’ve never been, but it’s the festival that I really, really want to get there one year. Maybe this will be the year. The full Sound And Fury lineup isn’t out yet, but a good chunk of it is, and the big news is that this year’s festival will feature Rival Mob and Carry On reunions.

In 2023, Foo Fighters brought in rock veteran Josh Freese as their new drummer, replacing the late Taylor Hawkins. Two years later, the band fired Freese and hired Ilan Rubin away from the mid-tour Nine Inch Nails. NIN simply responded by bringing in Freese, who’d previously been in the band for a stint, thus completing the great 2025 drummer swap. Since then, Freese has expressed confusion over the firing while admitting that Foo Fighters’ music “wasn’t music that I really resonated with.” Now, Dave Grohl has finally addressed the firing for the first time.

It’s been 57 years since TV icon William Shatner released his debut album, an utterly bizarre culty nugget called The Transformed Man. In more recent years, Shatner has occasionally returned to his music career, usually for shits and giggles. At least once in your life, you need to hear Shatner apply his bizarre spoken-word elocution to Pulp’s “Common People” on his Ben Folds-produced 2004 album Has Been. Shatner is now 94 years old, and he has just announced his first-ever metal album.

Next week, classic rock battleship Journey will head off on a very long farewell tour, but it’s still not entirely clear who will be in the band. Journey’s internal conflicts are the stuff of legend, and fans have speculated that longtime keyboardist Jonathan Cain and singer Arnel Pineda won’t be part of the tour. The Pineda problem is bigger than disputes between band members; he’s facing domestic violence charges in the Philippines. I’m sure there are plenty of fans, as well as at least one Journey member, who wish that they could just patch things up with classic-era singer Steve Perry, but Perry says that’s not happening.

The band Live have had a long, twisty, contentious history, and it’s only getting twistier and more contentious. It’s a pretty depressing story! Live started out as four high-school friends in the backwater town of York, Pennsylvania, and they found huge success when their 1994 album Throwing Copper sold eight million copies. For years, though, frontman Ed Kowalczyk and his three former bandmates have been in a series of legal disputes over the band name. The latest of those disputes is erupting right now, as Kowalczyk’s three ex-bandmates are all pursuing legal action against him.
