  • KILL FEED 083: Lord Gordith of QUEST MASTER Keeps the Dream of the ’90s Alive

It cannot be overstated how crucial the ’90s proved to be for the co-nerds of Kill Feed. As full-time members of Decibel’s staff, it is quite possible that we wouldn’t be where we are today (good or bad) without the massive strides taken by the underground metal legends of this period. And while we owe much to the music that helped to define our culture, the two millennials that run this column would be lying if we said we were conscious of it in the moment. What we were experiencing, however, was a golden era in home consoles: the explosive growth of technology that pushed video games from 8-bit sprites and 4-track audio to fully rendered 3D graphics and CD quality soundtracks. All of this change incredibly managed to occur in the span of roughly 6 years. And, unbeknownst to us, a similar impact was felt by a future musician living on the other side of the planet.

Enter Lord Gordith, the creative mind behind Australian fantasy synthesizer project Quest Master. Video games and, more specifically, early Nintendo systems played an early role in the solo artist’s compositions, his first release being described as a “soundtrack to a ’90s RPG, that was forgotten by time.” His 2023 full length Sword & Circuitry, as well as his partnership with kindred spirit Out of Season Records, saw his in-studio fantasy become a live performance reality. His latest offering, 2025’s Obscure Power, explores the darker forces of his formative decade while maintaining a fantastical atmosphere. Though a rising star on the label’s roster, interviews with Lord Gordith are incredibly difficult to find. After scheduling around polar opposite time zones, the Quest Master himself becomes our latest player character, here discuss the pivotal series and OSTs that lead him to begin his own journey.

Obscure Power is out now via Out of Season and can be purchased here.
