Available now on all digital platforms, “Empty Words” is the latest single from REVEALING CHAOS, released via Volcano Records.

With this new track, the band once again dives into intense and complex musical territory, delivering a modern progressive rock piece that blends technical precision with emotional depth, further strengthening their identity as a band driven by substance, intensity and artistic exploration. Inspired by recent real-life events that have deeply shaken public opinion, “Empty Words” tackles the painful subject of toxic relationships and psychological manipulation — destructive dynamics that often unfold in silence until they reach their most tragic consequences.

The song sheds light on the invisible mechanisms of control, dependency and emotional abuse that trap the most vulnerable side of a relationship, turning it into a psychological cage. Through sharp songwriting and a direct emotional approach, “Empty Words” carries a clear message: recognizing these patterns and finding the strength to break free before it’s too late. It stands as a call for awareness, emotional self-preservation and resistance against all forms of psychological violence. From a musical standpoint, the track unfolds through the intricate and dynamic structures that define Revealing Chaos’ progressive identity, balancing tension, technicality and melodic expansion in a way that recalls influences such as Fates Warning, Rush and Ayreon. The 1990s was a decade of regeneration and re-birth for rock music, with first grunge, then pop-punk, then nu-metal changing the face of the music world. Away from the glare of the media spotlight however, a quieter but no less significant musical revolution was birthed… and its implications are being felt now more than ever.

Emo might have had its origins in Washington DC’s Revolution Summer of 1985, but the form found definition and direction in the mid to late ‘90s, when artists such as Christie Front Drive, The Get Up Kids, The Promise Ring, Braid and Jimmy Eat World married the DIY aesthetic and passion of hardcore punk with the more cerebral, sensitive aspects of indie rock to create a new underground movement.

Texan quartet Mineral were among the pioneers of this new sound. Originally from Houston, but largely based in Austin, the state’s most liberal city, the quartet’s The Power Of Failing (1997) and EndSerenading (1998) albums established a blueprint for emo that would influence and inspire musicians throughout the following three decades. Melding quiet/loud dynamics, chiming guitars and heart-on-sleeve lyrics, Mineral offered refreshingly pure perspectives on life, love and loss, channelling their own experiences into raw, nakedly emotional songs which resonated profoundly with a generation of rock fans alienated by the increasingly cartoonish nature of ‘90s punk rock and the lunk-headed machismo of nu-metal. Both albums are essential listening for those interested in the development of US underground rock in the 1990s, with EndSerenading in particular continuing to find a new audience.

Just ask Beabadoobee, who cites it as her favourite album, and has taken on the influence of mid-west emo on her forthcoming record, Pylon.

“I remember it was a hard, hard time for me,” the 26-year-old singer/songwriter recalls in a new interview with BBC 6Music, “and someone showed me this album, and I listened to LoveLetterTypewriter, “I think, on repeat for about six months. It’s the opening track, and lyrically it’s only four or five lines long, but this singer [Chris Simpson], who is incredible, sings it really long, soaring over the song: it’s epic. It makes me feel a lot, and it feels very nostalgic… he’s reminiscing about summer. Yes, you can have a really beautiful melody, but how can you encapsulate that feeling through guitars, and just tension, like drums coming out, drums coming back… it just makes me feel like I’m on edge constantly, and I really like that about it.

“I’m obsessed with the whole record,” she adds, “I’m obsessed with the emotion he holds in his voice. Sonically, as a whole, it’s incredible. Epic, epic album.”

Frank Turner is another English singer-songwriter who’s fallen in love with Mineral.

“I stumbled across them as a teenager, a while after they’d broke up, and it was hard to get hold of their records, which gave the whole thing an extra frisson of excitement,” he says. “But it was the music, pure and simple, that hit me. I still consider them to be one of my bigger influences to this day, one of the bands of my youth that have totally stood the test of time.”

Marmozets have released their first new music since their album ‘CO.WAR.DICE’ dropped earlier this year, and it is a sentimental number to say the least.

Titled ‘Closer To You’, it serves as a direct love letter from vocalist Becca Bottomley to guitarist, and husband, Jack Bottomley. A off-kilter, jangly, beautifully constructed ballad of sorts, it peels back the chaos that the band embody so well for pure sentiment and gooey-eyed intent. It’s the sort of song that hits the heart from all sides, the one that’s made to be sent to that special someone who is always on your mind. The fact that the band have taken the time to put together something that hits so close to home, but still making sure it doesn’t stray from the rest of their character, is testament to just how potent the feelings found within are.

Becca had this to say about the track explaining, “‘Closer To You’ started on an acoustic guitar during an improv session in the living room of Jack’s parents’ old house. The chorus came out of nowhere, but looking back, it clearly came from a very real place. Early on in my relationship with Jack, I wanted something so deep – more than I felt capable of offering, accepting, or even believing was possible. I wanted true love.

This song has been on a massive journey, growing and evolving at the exact same time I was doing the inner work on myself. Because I’ve lived with it for so long, releasing it now feels like letting it fly away; it almost feels separate from me now. Maybe you’ll hear that perspective in the music, but I’m okay with letting it just exist.

Sitting here on the couch today, I feel the most secure and loved I have ever felt in my life. I’ve made it to the other side of what I used to crave so desperately. No matter where this song goes from here, I’m incredibly proud of that growth.”

I have crossed paths only fleetingly with Witchsorrow over the years. A review of 2018’s Hexenhammer and a view of them at Hammerfest in Brum in 2019, the total I could find. My memories served me well, though, for their latest album slotted neatly into the Sabbath worship that I dimly recalled. And bloody great this latest album is if you enjoy occult-infused Doom.

Witchsorrow – The Devil And All His Works

The mainstay of the band, Necroskull and Emily Witch, are now joined by a new drummer, Scott ‘Doom’ Taylor. He seems to have slotted in rather well, for his anchoring of sludgy, sprawling songs is totally on point. 

Few bands can open with an 11+ minute song, but Witchsorrow have no qualms about doing just that. As the bell tolls over the organ that signals the eerie intro to Omnia Finiuntur, the vibes are more Cathedral than Sabbath, but regardless, it is a beguiling start that sprawls with just the right level of malevolent menace. 

Whilst Witchsorrow wallow in the fuzzy low end, they can also level buildings with the intensity they conjure up. Bacchus is a slab crusher, a powerful combination of sludgy riffs and powerful impact, with Necroskull’s harrowing vocal delivery merely adding to the overall atmosphere. Sometimes, slow is just as good as fast, and this is a band intent of delivering a bruising combination. 

When they get moving, as they do on Hades Chain, the infectious groove they generate demands your attention. It is impossible not to nod along to this one, such is the drive and feel. A standout track for me, it is a nasty, gritty, dirt under the nail’s kind of song. I dig it!!

Of similar style, In Triumph We Rot!! shows the band’s more up-tempo side, a chunky riff-heavy headbanger that gets the blood circulating. 

The overall feel of the album has a creeping sense of uncertainty. There is a darkness that spreads across the room, a chill that appears despite the heat that was present when listening to it. The ominous bell that rings on In Triumph We Rot does resonate.

And then the finale, A Quintessence Of Dust. Over eight minutes long, it switches to the more Doom-laden approach that bubbles underneath the surface for much of the album.

Evil and sinister, it is a fine finish to an album that those of the Gothic Occult persuasion should be marking as one of the key albums of 2026.

Two weeks ago, Witchsorrow released Live At The Earth House, a full video live session recorded at Earth House. “It’s a rare thing to get to play somewhere like the Earth House,” the band said, “and really take time creating an atmosphere and being able to get in touch with parts of our music that sometimes don’t take centre-stage.

“It was slightly strange playing without an audience, but it meant that we were just playing purely for the three of us, and concentrating only on how we felt about the music and the surroundings.

“This was the first time we’d performed Bacchus, and it was wonderful to be able to do it in an environment like that.”
