  • THE BLACK ANGELS Reveal Full Australian Tour Dates

Austin psych-rock trailblazers The Black Angels will return to Australia and New Zealand in 2026 for a special run of shows marking 20 years since the release of their landmark debut album Passover (2006). Newly announced headline dates in Melbourne and Adelaide join previously confirmed shows as part of VIVID (Sydney), Open Season (Brisbane) and Dark Mofo (Hobart).

Formed in Austin, Texas in 2004, The Black Angels have become one of the defining acts of the modern psychedelic rock movement. Drawing inspiration from forebears such as Syd Barrett, Roky Erickson, Arthur Lee and The Velvet Underground, the band have built a reputation for crafting music that nods to the genre’s foundations while pushing into darker, contemporary territory.

Released in 2006, Passover quickly earned cult status, helping shape the global psych revival of the 21st century with its droning riffs, hypnotic rhythms and stark lyrical themes. Two decades on, the record continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.

Across subsequent albums including Death Song (2017) and Wilderness of Mirrors (2022) via Partisan Records, The Black Angels have continued to refine their sound while maintaining the intensity and atmosphere that first set them apart.

Beyond their own recordings, the band’s influence extends through their role as founders of Austin Psych Fest – now known globally as Levitation – one of the most important gatherings for psychedelic and experimental music.

Renowned for their mesmerising live performances, The Black Angels’ 2026 return promises a rare chance to revisit a defining record performed front-to-back, alongside material spanning their two-decade career.

Presale begins Tuesday 14 April at 10am local time.
Tickets are on sale Wednesday 15 April at 10am local time.

Featuring members of  Dreamkillers, Fractured State, Dellacoma, Audio Reign, Awaken The Hate, Wayward Kings and Whiteford, Project X is a charity arm of XMusic and a share of the proceeds will go to charities including Men’s Mental Health and Support Act from this track.

Mastered by Roger Lian who also mastered Soundgarden, gave this song a great lift from the amazing recording done from Damien Kechagias.

Hunger Strike is such a special song to me and fans around the world, with its haunting vocals and was such an amazing song to hear live from both Soundgarden and Pearl Jam! I have had this idea for a few years now and then Damien Kechagias (Dreamkillers and now FRACTURED STATE) came to me with a full album concept and thus the fun began. A huge thanks to Damien Kechagias for the production of this track and enlisted fellow Dreamkillers/Fractured State drummer Steve Hatchman and then the hunt for the vocalists began.

The overwhelming response from all vocalists on this track was amazing! A let’s do this! Attitude, so a huge thanks and much love goes out to Dellacoma Rio of Dellacoma, Jake Fleming of Audio Reign, Ben Rogers of Awaken The Hate, Ryan Daley of Wayward Kings and Zarz Vox of Whiteford – XMusic CEO, Tim McLean-Smith

As part of the 5th Anniversary of XMusic we decided to start the project before the Anniversary live shows. There are more songs coming from Project X featuring your favourite artists from XMusic, with the next being Adele’s Hello featuring some amazing female vocalists. Simply we want to give back to the people who help us, Support Act and Men’s Mental health charities who are very important to the musicians in our industry! So Please Turn it UP! And enjoy….
