The Temperance Movement have announced their fourth studio album, New Promise Land Incorporated, which will be released on October 9 via Earache Records.

Along with the album announcement, the British rock band has released the lead single, “Eat You Alive,” offering fans their first taste of the group’s first collection of new material in eight years.

Lead guitarist Paul Sayer said the band intentionally returned to the approach that defined its early recordings.

“The album is a return to our beginnings in the truest sense. We went about it in the same way we did our first album, the band in a room, live to tape. This time with Ethan Johns alongside us, we wanted to capture what it’s like to be in a room with The Temperance Movement.”

Frontman Phil Campbell shared the inspiration behind the new single.

“‘Eat You Alive’ was one of the first songs written. The lyrics describe the Somerset countryside in context to my journey to write with the guys – casting it against my own super-urban home life in Glasgow. I’m dissatisfied with the shooshing, nit-picking and editing of life nowadays. I was a teenager in the 90’s, and now I live in a very controlled and conservative world compared to that liberal zenith. The concept of being eaten alive or ruined entirely for backing the wrong horse or sticking up for the good guy when the bad guy has all the votes – these are very real fears for anyone today, from children through to adulthood.”

Recorded in April 2026, New Promise Land Incorporated was produced and mixed by Ethan Johns, whose previous work includes albums with Kings of Leon, Laura Marling and Ray LaMontagne. The band recorded the album live to tape, aiming to capture the energy and chemistry of their live performances.

The 10-track album features songs including “Shadows,” “Silverlight Blues,” “Love Kicks,” “Mongrels,” and “Saving Grace.” It marks the band’s first full-length release of new material since 2018’s A Deeper Cut.

The Temperance Movement emerged as one of Britain’s leading modern rock bands during the 2010s, earning multiple UK Top 40 albums, including A Deeper Cut, which reached No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart.

After stepping away following that release, the band reunited for a series of live performances in 2025. The comeback tour included sold-out shows across the UK and Europe, highlighted by a sold-out performance at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town.

The band’s return continues this year with appearances at several European festivals, including Steelhouse Festival, Maid of Stone Festival, Azkena Rock Festival, Notodden Blues Festival and Rootsy Summer Fest. A 21-date UK and European headline tour will follow the release of New Promise Land Incorporated.

Lost In Kyiv – We’re All Going To Be Fine (Pelagic Records)

Some more fine French fancies from Lost In Kyiv and their new album We’re All Going To Be Fine, over a decade of post rock excellence continues with this latest release that seamless integrates cavernous enveloping riffs and twitching electronic ambience.

This new record taking down a heavier/darker path than before, one that has been spearheaded by them looking inward for inspiration, drawing from their own lives to craft personal and emotional songs that delve into the less upbeat parts of their collective psyches then transferred into music that has also been inspired by Carl Gustav Jung.

A refocus rather than a reinvention, We’re All Going Yo Be Fine is a record that the band describe as “the first record of a new version of the band”, which has lead the name change from Kiev to Kyiv because if that’s the way the Ukrainian capital describes itself then this change is reflected in the more tumultuous atmospheres on this record.

With so many “post” bands dynamics are at the heart of what they do and Lost In Kyiv master dynamism with every cut on this record, with electronic and analogue instrumentation weaving into each other throughout.

There’s acoustic beauty, pulsating breakbeat, waves of synth melody, repeating clean guitars lines but also bigger and louder distorted riffs that take the band into those more ominous, metallic tones. The addition of their new drummer, giving them more powerful grooves powered by adrenaline and even aggression, while the guest vocals of Rebecca Need-Menear on Becoming again brings another dynamic to their sound.

We’re All Going To Be Fine is a record from a band who were in a state of flux, but have slowly and carefully rebuilt themselves into a more potent force that has a stronger connection with their audience. 8/10

Oh Hiroshima – And The Dead Tree Gives No Shelter (Pelagic Records)

The duo of Jakob Hemström (guitar/bass/vocals) and Oskar Nilsson (drums and percussion) have been refining their full spectrum musical approach for years now, the Swedish based band curate a place for cinematic introspection, intensity builds, emotions are driven by the colossal soundscapes and soulful vocals.

Oh Hiroshima make music that climbs, like a slow ascent up a musical mountain, they take cues from Mike Oldfield and his ability to layer repeating rhythms over each other as another step of the journey. Inspired by T. S. Eliott’s The Wasteland, there’s a sense of hopelessness to the album that is communicated through these eight songs, an innate sadness for a failing world where guitars and drums are joined by stirring strings.

There’s also moments that spark joy and hope, the feeling that perhaps we can change the world, The Tree Of Life leaning on Celtic tones while Broken Sunlight goes through flute driven grunge while Exit Cloud features organs, orchestras, electronics, horns and the biggest riffs of the record to close it out.

And The Dead Tree Gives No Shelter is an album that features musical complexity and emotional turmoil, a lament for the world explored through expansive music and emotive vocals, Oh Hiroshima continue to impress. 7/10

Hanry – What Came From Silence (Pelagic Records)

Another instrumental post rock group now with What Came From Silence by Hanry.

Despite only being formed in 2022 they have already positioned themselves as ones to watch in the world of post rock, so with their debut album they look to firmly define themselves as a band with it. Written and recorded during a harsh winter in Brittany, the fierceness and isolation of this process can be felt on this album.

It’s a record where all the songs begin in cold and frigid tundra’ but build into luminous vistas as the introspection evolves into acceptance, the band say: “What Came From Silence is a meditation on emergence, on how resonance is born from restraint, how sound gathers weight from quiet beginnings” which in my view sums up the album perfectly.

A virtuoso five piece that share a musical bond that’s is strong across the record, a trio of guitars create the lush layered effect of melodies, harmonising and counteracting with the hand picked synths to make sure that this is the sound they want to be associated with, never over-complicating anything but defining their approach with the multiple guitars, synth lines and cello while the drums are propulsive and create spatial awareness beneath it all.

They also credit the addition of pianist Mariposa as bringing extra depth, for me though their mastery of electronic music is what makes this record exciting, inspired by Explosion In The Sky, Boards of Canada, and even Massive Attack, a track like Remains could be an easy entry into that 90’s synth/triphop scene as would Time’s Collapsing.

Their blending of electronica and post rock give a Hanry a unique position on the post rock scene, signing to Pelagic has helped them discover how creative they can be with their debut album. 7/10

After their victorious debut appearance at Outbreak Fest, I Promised The World have revealed the details of their first full overseas run for later this year.

The band will be making their way through five countries on the run, with an extensive stay in the UK rounding things out. And support for all shows will come from ROSASHARIN.

Vocalist Hunter Wilson had this to say about the announcement:

“To play our first ever show outside of the states, and have the reaction we did at Outbreak is something we could never have expected.  It truly blew us away.  We can’t wait to get back and play all those cities and make ourselves some new friends along the way”

UK progressive, alternative metal band HAKEN are excited to announce the release of the ‘in a fever dream’ EP, arriving digitally on July 17th, and physically as CD and vinyl on September 18th. Co-produced and mixed by George Lever (Loathe, Sleep Token), and featuring bass contributions from Bryan Beller (Joe Satriani, The Aristocrats) & Adam ‘Nolly’ Getgood (Periphery), the band have crafted some of the most emotionally direct material of their career so far.

When it comes to discerning the difference between doom and stoner metal, I subscribe to the Ned Flanders school of thought. While doom tends towards darker atmospheres at a slower pace, stoner metal generally grooves with a chiller vibe. Now, there are (at least two) exceptions, and it gets kind of tricky, one of which is the compound stoner-doom genre. This label nicely fits Druidess, who have become a staple of the UK doom and stoner scenes since the release of their 2024 EP, Hermits and Mandrakes. Two years later, this Newcastle upon Tyne quartet has finally dropped its independently-released debut LP, Trip Meadow. Whether a British stoner-doom scenester or a newcomer, you’re surely wondering whether Druidess’s musical trip feels like strolling through a meadow or slogging through a jungle.

Druidess travel through the crevices of Mount Doom and the streets of Stonerville, but they also haunt the alleys of Psychedelphia. Guitarist Daniel Downing powers this English engine, doling out an array of Sabbathian riffs that brood, gallop, and descend, often in the same song (“A Forest Witch’s Daughter”). Beneath Downing is drummer Sam Armstrong, who hits hard but sprinkles in peppery jazz accents, keeping things rhythmically dynamic (“Descended from Giants”). The highlight, however, is vocalist Shonagh Brown, who knows how to hold a straightforward verse and develop a sticky chorus (“Knightingales”). Brown claims Joan Jett (The Runaways) as a major influence, but I also hear Laura Donnelly (King Witch) in her penchant for effortless power.¹ Draping Druidess’s stoner-doom core in a psychedelic haze is keyboardist James Hill, whose organ plinks owe a debt of gratitude to The Doors while recalling a contemporary band like Green Lung. If the presence of organ sounds insufficiently psychedelic, then you’ll be glad to hear that a saxophone occasionally moans melancholic melodies² (“Trip Meadow,” “A Witches’ Sabbath”).³ Aesthetically and performance-wise, Trip Meadow brings home the goods.

The songwriting, however, sometimes sails the Inconsistent Sea. The songs hovering around 4 minutes deliver memorable jolts of Iommian riffs and Jettian choruses (“Mandragora,” “The Hermit of Druid’s Temple”). Even when Druidess expand to the 6–7 minute range, they usually do a good job balancing subdued excursions and tempo shifts with solid songcraft (“The Forest Witch’s Daughter,” “A Witches’ Sabbath”). A few tracks, however, could’ve definitely been pared down, the major example being the 10-minute title track. “Trip Meadow” opens with a sultry saxophone groove before reducing to an ominous organ line obliterated by a crushing doom riff. From there, it takes too long for the song to get to its good (not great) chorus. At around the 8-minute mark, however, Druidess goes off on gothic riff variations, variations that would’ve hit even harder were they to have come sooner.

I must also mention that Trip Meadow shares much in common with Druidess’s previous jaunt. Five of the album’s seven songs, in fact, appear on the Hermits and Mandrakes EP. Druidess does sonically improve these cuts for Trip Meadow, especially the vocal mix. Whereas Brown sits awkwardly atop the band on the EP, her voice feels prominent but porous on the LP, commingling with the fuzzy guitar tones while still carrying the tunes. It is disappointing, however, that roughly 70 percent of the material here exists on another release. The two new songs, though quite good, are not the strongest material on display. As discussed, “Trip Meadow” embodies enormous potential only partly realized. Meanwhile, “Descended from Giants” contains mighty fine bass-work, a neat pseudo-breakdown, and killer concluding wails, but it also retreads ground already covered.

Trip Meadow trips in a few ways, but ultimately, it’s a trip worth taking. If you’re already familiar with the Hermits and Mandrakes EP, the debut LP will probably feel like a tedious (albeit sonically improved) trek through well-worn terrain. If you’re like I was, however, ignorant of the EP and desiring of quality stoner-doom, then you should definitely take a stroll through Druidess’s comforting meadow of fuzzed-out riffs and fantastic vocals. At 41 minutes, Trip Meadow gets away with its redundancies because it sounds so good. If subsequent musical adventures tighten the songwriting while exploring experimentation under a cozy psych aesthetic, Druidess may find Greatness as a future destination.
