Born Jason Bradley DeFord on December 4, 1984, he was raised in the Antioch neighborhood of Nashville, Tennessee. His father worked as a meat salesman and also as a bookie, while his mother struggled with mental illness and addiction. The nickname Jelly Roll started in childhood and stayed with him into adulthood. His teenage years and early twenties were marked by repeated arrests, jail time, and felony charges, including possession with intent to distribute and aggravated robbery. During that period, he earned his GED at age 23, and much later, on December 18, 2025, he received a pardon from Tennessee

  • Immolation – Descent (Review)

    Band:Immolation
    Release:Descent
    Genre:Death Metal
    Country:USA
    Release Date:27th of March, 2026
    Released viaNuclear Blast Records

37 years into their career and still no signs of slowing down. Immolation prove once again why they are the undisputed kings of New York death metal. Their 12th full-length Descent is set to be released on April 10 via Nuclear Blast. The band delivers ten evil tracks that make you question if the world we’re living in is hell already.

Right from the start, it becomes clear that Descent might be one of the best sounding Immolation records to date. The production is absolutely diabolical, yet organic enough to keep that raw edge alive. It feels massive without losing the dark, suffocating atmosphere that defines the band’s sound.

And make no mistake this album has all the ingredients you want from an Immolation record. It is dark and has oppressive vibes, soaring solos, frantic drumming and Ross Dolan’s unmatched vocal roars. It’s everything you expect, but executed on a level that only Immolation can reach.

Bob Vigna’s riffing once again feels completely out of this world. We all know he’s more than just a solid guitar player, but the brute force he delivers on tracks like “The Ephemeral Curse” or “Attrition” is just unreal. These riffs don’t just hit… they consume you.

What really stands out is how well the band builds tension within their songs. “God’s Last Breath” is a perfect example, starting slow and crawling forward before turning into a grinding, crushing beast. Meanwhile, “Adversary” brings back strong Dawn of Possession and Majesty and Decay vibes. Two of my personal favourite Immolation records which says a lot about the quality we’re dealing with here.

Immolation have truly mastered the art of creating an apocalyptic atmosphere. If the world ever comes to an end, this would probably be the perfect soundtrack.

Interestingly, there isn’t one single track that completely stands above the rest. But honestly, that’s not a bad thing at all. The songwriting is so consistent and so well-crafted that every song feels like a face ripper. No weak moments, no filler…just pure, relentless death metal.

Consistency and intensity have always been the foundation of Immolation, and Descent is the perfect follow-up to Acts of God. If you have friends who want to get into heavy or truly evil music in 2026, show them this album.

Descent needs to be played loud.

The true kings of New York death metal are back.

    Long live Immolation.

  • LIVE REVIEW: Mortuary Drape @ The Underworld (London, UK)

An evening of morbid and majestic excellence awaits… Italian black metal royalty Mortuary Drape celebrate 40 years of necromancy alongside England’s Adorior and Vacivus to present a night of historic metal significance, put together by Morbid Angle.

Opening the night with scathing death metal is Vacivus. A band not too often seen in London and one I’ve always enjoyed with their well built riffing, demonic vocals, hard-hitting drums and some excellent solos. Perhaps best likened as England’s answer to Funebrarum or Disma. Their contorting brutality was a perfect opening onslaught for a night such as this, one that already feels like something special. A strong opener and a great set from the Sunderland slayers.

Adorior, as always, means business. As one of the underground’s most important bands, the London fist metal wrecking crew strike hard and without mercy. Instantly the tormenting howls of Jaded Lungs ride in on waves of contorting guitar violence and drum abuse. With material spanning over 30 years, Adorior attack the crowd with their rabid metal fury and give us cuts from their lacerating works of years past along with the equally wild recent record “Bleed on my Teeth”. For the first time “Sips of Sarin” was introduced into the live set and sounded ferocious. For my money, this is a band who has been supreme since day one and has only gone from strength to strength ever since. Honouring the old ways of metal, pushing the boundaries and always crossing the line; the London scavengers of vengeance will never surrender and never give quarter. There just isn’t another band like Adorior and if you miss seeing these maniacs level a venue; that’s poor decision making on your part.

Now for the headline set, 40 years of one of black metal’s absolute finest, it is time to descend into the drape… Mortuary Drape are one of those bands with something truly special and unique about them and any chance to see them live is an unmissable opportunity. The air fills with the aroma from the crypt as their introduction injects the crowd with a tense anticipation. Instantly their sound is recognisable and powerful as soon as they hit the stage with a massive mix that conveys their twisted guitars and magical bass lines. The drum kit sounds huge as the rolling toms and intricate attack delivers total savagery while Wildness Perversion’s abhorrent incantations sound as evil as ever. Blending their early material from the first EP and albums with the equally killer recent album and EP, the Italian devils have an impressive discography and make sure to showcase highlights from all of it to celebrate four decades of excellence. Having seen Mortuary Drape a few times now, this show definitely had the best sound and also the longest setlist, so for me as a die-hard lover of the catacomb lurking horde; I found myself in astral bewitchment for the entirety.

All in one night… A feast of black and death metal magnificence from a trio of bands whom delivered that cult underground assault we all hunger for. Mortuary Drape’s honouring of their lengthy career alongside two fierce English bands was inevitably going to be a potent concoction and one that’s intoxication will likely be felt for a while. A monumental moment of mania for London that had all attendants obsessed by necromancy.
