Earlier today, black metal mainstays Venom announced they’ve got their 16th studio album Into Oblivion coming out on May 1 via Noise/BMG. To mark the occasion, they also released the album’s lead single, “Lay Down Your Soul” and its accompanying music video.
Of course, Venom likely needs no introduction here. They’ve been around since 1979 and have paved a way for many bands to follow suit. Though lineup changes have fractured what’s Venom and Venom Inc., this current iteration of the former features founding member Cronos on bass and vocals, Rage on guitar, and Dante on drums.
This new announcement marks the band’s first time releasing new material since 2018’s Storm The Gates. This time around, Into Oblivion has 13 brand new songs on its tracklist, with each carrying that signature Venom sound.
Of course, the pandemic slowed shit down for this record, among other setbacks, but Cronos said this album in particular was worth the frustration.
“This album has really pushed the boundaries, but if you want to make a killer album, you pay for it in blood, sweat and tears. I’m so proud of this album, it’s astounding! It feels so different, yet so familiar. The sonics are a step up, no song sounds the same, but they all work together.’
Into Oblivion will be released on May 1 via Noise/BMG, but you can preorder your copy today.
