  • Listening Now : Battery Operated Orchestra – Responsible Adult

Battery Operated Orchestra’s Responsible Adult hums with that sharp, synth driven pulse that feels both retro and mischievously current. There is a cool mechanical sheen running through the track, somewhere between early Human League detachment and Devo’s sideways grin, yet it never feels like homage. It feels lived in. The rhythm is tight, propulsive, and slightly ironic, perfectly framing lyrics that poke at the uneasy performance of “having it together” in chaotic times.

There is wit here, but also something human beneath the circuitry. Responsible Adult balances playful edge with reflective undercurrents, making it both danceable and quietly self aware. BOO continue to refine their distinct electro pop language, proving once again that grown up does not have to mean boring.

  • 070 Shake – “If You’re Free”

070 Shake fans are suspecting a new album soon. One key clue is that, from 2016’s The 070 Project: Chapter 1 to 2024’s Petrichor, the New Jersey artist has released a project every even-numbered year. Another key clue is that over the weekend, Shake released “If You’re Free,” a very pretty, stripped-down acoustic song that…

  • Check Out Beyond Creation’s First New Single in Eight Years “Reverence”

    beyondcreationband

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard anything new from Canadian progressive/technical death metal outfit Beyond Creation. We last covered them when they released their 2018 album Algorythm and since then it’s been quiet. Well, all of that changed today when they dropped their first new single in eight years, “Reverence”.

What starts out with an almost ethereal opening quickly turns into a heavy, proggy beatdown that makes it hard to not want to bang your head until your neck hurts. After all these years, these guys can still play with an insanely tight precision that’s hard to deny. About two-thirds into the song, you get this dare I say beautiful movement that only serves to calm things down before shit gets real again.

This back and forth between calmness and fury serves as a musical reminder of what the track is about, says vocalist, guitarist and lyricist Simon Girard.

“Our new single explores the fragile line between clarity and illusion, between introspection and insanity, where the search for meaning can either elevate us or consume us. But the truth is simple and powerful: the moment you stop comparing and start focusing on who you truly are and what you genuinely want to express, something beautiful happens. You create from a place of honesty. You grow with purpose. What you achieve becomes something you can be proud of, because it is unique, real and entirely your own.”

It’s that comment about comparison that’s particularly important, as Girard says the whole thing is a condemnation of social media and how we’re constantly meant to be comparing ourselves to each other on these soul sucking platforms.

“With social media, we are constantly measuring ourselves against others. The more we compare, the further we drift from our true selves and our authentic voice. We are lost amidst stress and insecurity. We feel that our ideas lack value, that our techniques are insufficient and our identity is somehow flawed.”

There’s no word about a new album or anything at this time, but if you dig the single and music video below, you can pick up a copy of said single today.

  • Listening Now : Lousid – Common Struggles

Lousid’s Common Struggles lands with the kind of grounded confidence that defines conscious hip hop at its best. The beat carries a smooth, head nodding groove that feels chill on the surface, yet there is an undercurrent of urgency in the delivery. Lousid flows with clarity and intention, balancing introspection with momentum, never sounding preachy but never shying away from weight either.

What makes the track resonate is its relatability. The themes feel lived in, not borrowed, reflecting everyday pressures and shared realities without overcomplicating the message. There is energy in the cadence, but also space to breathe. Common Struggles feels honest and steady, a reminder that vulnerability and strength can exist in the same verse.

  • Listening Now : Last Second Dropout – Apathy

Last Second Dropout’s Apathy bursts out with punchy pop-rock urgency, blending rap-inflected verses with driving guitars and a tight, propulsive rhythm section. The vocal tone carries a striking resemblance to Billy Corgan’s — that slightly nasal, emotionally stretched delivery that cuts through distortion with raw immediacy. It gives the track a nostalgic alt-rock edge while keeping its modern bite intact.

Lyrically, Apathy zeroes in on emotional neglect in a hyperconnected world, arguing that indifference is more corrosive than love or hate. Hook-heavy and high-energy, it channels frustration into a cathartic, fist-in-the-air release.
