Big Fat Head Announce New Album Global Voyeur: Hear Four Tracks
Big Fat Head have been kicking around my state for quite some time now. The group got started nearly a decade ago in Athens, Ohio, where I attended Ohio University once upon a time. (Sadly, my college years were way more than a decade ago.) Back then the band was more like Nate Wilder’s solo project. But in the post-COVID years, Big Fat Head took root in Columbus and became more of a unit. At this point they’re up to six members. Opening for Water From Your Eyes a few weeks ago, they were formidable.

37 Houses Strangers Review
37 Houses Strangers Review
The EP opens with “Strangers,” featuring an ironic guitar sound that reveals the personality of the band. The collaboration between husband and wife Erin Sydney and guitarist Jeremy Rosenblum makes this music unique. The guitar riff accompanies the song throughout its duration. As the track gains intensity, it embraces alternative rock vibes, creating an engaging experience.

Following this, “Honesty is Everything” emerges with a punk-influenced riff that evokes the spirit of early 2000s punk music. The melodic lines are intriguing, while the sound is powerful and raw. The energy in this track is invigorating and builds excitement as it progresses.
Next, “Helium” offers a psychedelic twist reminiscent of the Pixies. The vibe transports listeners to another dimension, creating a unique atmosphere. The vocal performance here is theatrical and intense, showcasing the depth of emotion within the music. This song stands as a beautiful ballad, infused with nuances that echo the 1990s.
The EP concludes with “Eye For an Eye,” which begins immediately, forgoing an introduction. There are moments within this track that bring to mind the nuances of The Cranberries. The combined feeling of hypnotic nostalgia and intensity creates a powerful closing piece.
Strangers – Sound and Atmosphere
Overall, the EP paints a vivid picture of coupledom. It examines the highs and lows of being together, capturing the joys and challenges experienced in a relationship. The sincere exploration of these themes makes the project introspective and compelling.
Each song unfolds with professionalism and clarity, indicating the creative synergy between the two artists. There is a depth present that allows listeners to connect with the material. The narratives told throughout the songs resonate with anyone who has navigated the complexities of love.
Strangers – Performance and Production
Musically, the EP stays vibrant and fresh, diverging into different styles while maintaining its essence. The transition from rock to punk to a more melodic style speaks to the versatility of Sydney and Rosenblum.
“Strangers” is not just another collection of songs; it is an insightful exploration of life as a couple. The emotional weight is perfectly balanced by dynamic instrumentation. This collection is sure to connect with audiences looking for genuine musical expressions of intimacy and connection.
