    Based on this headline, you may find yourself sitting there wondering, “Smokey, Arby’s is still a thing?” Well, APPARAFUCKINLY, hunny.

    Last night (Friday, February 13), elder emos Jimmy Eat World found themselves performing at an Arby’s in… you guessed it… Florida! In Daytona Beach, specifically, as part of a promotion for the fast food chain’s sponsorship for JR Motorsports’ No. 1 Chevrolet. Race car driver Carson Kvapil is driving the Chevy in this weekend’s United Rentals 300 at Daytona International Speedway and he shared a clip of Jimmy Eats Roast Beef’s performance, that you can watch below.

    As if this wasn’t enough, Jimmy Eat World announced earlier this week the dates of their upcoming Bleed American 25th Anniversary North American tour, plus they’ll be playing Vans Warped Tour this year, in case you missed that.

    We’re back with another update to the MetalSucks Playlist. This time around, more than half of the entire playlist is brand new music. Thank goodness 2026 is turning out to be a great year for metal, because it was a little slow starting out the gate.

    Thankfully, we’ve got new music from some heavy hitters like Corrosion of Conformity, Down, Anthrax and the like coming down the pipe. As for this update, we’ve got new tracks from Mayhem, Sylosis, and Exhumed, just to name a few.

    How about an absolute scorcher of a new single from the legendary Michael Des Barres? Out on Rum Bar Records, “Kiss or Kill Me” finds the 26th Marquis Des Barres obliterating the notion that we ever become too old to rock. Co-written with guitarist Loren Molinare (The Dogs, Slamdinistas) and co-produced by Richard Duguay (Personality Crisis), this song is a shot of pure glam/punk/rock ‘n’ roll energy delivering a truly provocative proposition. Its release on the eve of Valentine’s Day was no coincidence. “Really the song is an anthem of love,” Des Barres notes. “Love me or leave me. You either bring love to life, or you’re not living.” And man oh man, this song sure does bring love to life. Joined by Paul Ill on bass and Rob Klonel on drums, Des Barres and Molinare kick up a swaggering, hard-rocking racket with a hook that cannot be denied. It’s one thing to hear bands pay homage to the heyday of glam rock and proto-punk. But to hear guys who were there when it was originally happening still sound this enthused and inspired in 2026 is quite the thrill. If you aren’t already aware of how massive Silverhead ought to have been, go track down its two LPs. But buy this first! While most people may now think of Des Barres as an actor and radio personality, he has never stopped writing and releasing music. And with “Kiss or Kill Me,” he has a massive indie radio hit on his hands. The B-side of this single, “I Was Saved In ’64,” is something quite extraordinary. It’s a spoken word number in which Des Barres tells his rock ‘n’ roll origin story while Molinare and Duguay accompany him on guitar. It’s an exhilarating piece of poetry, and of course no one is better suited than Des Barres to turn a spoken word track into a captivating performance.  

    “Kiss or Kill Me” is available on vinyl (in three color options) and compact disc from Rum Bar Records. With only 100 copies pressed in each color, you know the vinyl (shipping next month) is going to go fast. Mozy on up to the bar and order yourself a proper jolt of rock ‘n’ roll!

    Chicago death metal band CURSED AWAKENING (FKA – ARRHYTHMIA) returns with their new single “Past Newtonium,” a punishing new track that serves as the first warning of a full length album coming later in 2026.

    To sum up “Past Newtonium” in one word, unrelenting. The song opens with a slow and deceptively restrained introduction before rapidly giving way to steady, ferocious triplet feel chugging. Razor sharp riffing drives the track forward as it erupts into a blistering Kerry King esque solo. The final moments descend into a brutal breakdown filled with screaming pinch harmonics, before returning to the intro riff to seal the track with grim finality.

    Lyrically, “Past Newtonium” reflects a moment in the album where panic and overwhelming self disgust take center stage. The themes focus on self loathing, irreversible mistakes, and the suffocating realization of one’s own perceived corruption, reinforcing the psychological weight carried throughout the record.

    Most of the riffs for “Past Newtonium” were written by rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist Abraham Verdin, with the song’s ominous intro drawing inspiration from BEHEMOTH’s “Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel.” The result is a track that blends old school death metal aggression with deliberate pacing, thrash influenced precision, and non standard song structure.
