  • Slayer: Special 40th Anniversary Reissue of “Hell Awaits” to See Release May 15th, 2026 via Metal Blade Records

    – November 13th, 2025 –

    Pre-Orders Available

SLAYER‘s iconic second studio album, Hell Awaits, is set to receive a 40th anniversary edition reissue via Metal Blade Records next Spring!

Formed in 1981, SLAYER assaulted the world with a new hybrid of metal and punk – heavier, faster, and darker than the rest – and set a new standard, defining not only a genre, but an attitude. Throughout SLAYER‘s history, the band never faltered in unleashing their extreme and focused aural assault, and repudiating temptations, SLAYER always chose to remain crushing and brutal, steadfastly refusing to cater to the mainstream.

It’s the record where SLAYER became SLAYER.” That’s what Kerry King says about Hell Awaits. And he knows of what he speaks. As the band’s guitarist, co-songwriter, and co-lyricist, he was in the trenches with vocalist/bassist Tom Araya, guitarist Jeff Hanneman (R.I.P.), and drummer Dave Lombardo, creating what has become one of heavy metal’s greatest albums.

A significant departure from SLAYER‘s 1983 debut, Show No Mercy – and every SLAYER album that came after it – Hell Awaits is both an outlier and a solidification of form. Show No Mercy was the mission statement, but Hell Awaits is a more developed and intricate execution of SLAYER‘s speed, chops, and aggression.

Released in April of 1985 by Metal Blade Records, Hell Awaits was the pinnacle of an action-packed thrash year that saw debut albums from the likes of Megadeth, Exodus, Kreator, Possessed, Destruction, Hirax, and Overkill. Heavily influenced by Mercyful Fate, the longer, more progressive arrangements on Hell Awaits marked a new era for SLAYER. Whereas most of the songs on Show No Mercy were less than four minutes long, three of Hell Awaits‘ seven tracks go beyond the six-minute mark. “Jeff and I were still trying to figure out who we were as musicians, and we were both infatuated with Mercyful Fate’s Melissa album during the writing process for Hell Awaits,” King says. “That’s why there’s so few songs and most of ‘em are pretty long. That’s the only time anything like that ever happened with us.”

Tom Araya’s performance is similarly impressive. The vocalist spat lyrics a mile a minute on the likes of “Kill Again” and “Praise Of Death.” “I don’t recall the songs being hard to sing,” he says. “Singing fast and clearly has always been something that I strived for.”

The reissue arrives May 15th, 2026 in three physical formats and digitally. Pre-orders are available now at: metalblade.com/slayer

    GEORGE THOROGOOD & THE DESTROYERS

CELEBRATE 10th ANNUAL “WHO DO YOU LOVE?” CAMPAIGN

Legendary Rock Band Spreads Holiday Love Via Support of 11 National Charities

George Thorogood & The Destroyers today announced their 10th annual “Who Do You Love?” holiday campaign, which runs from November 18TH to December 30TH and designed to raise awareness and support for 11 nonprofits close to the band’s heart. “When I was a kid, my hero was Bobby Kennedy,” says George. “He said ‘Some men see things as they are and ask why? I dream things that never were and ask, why not?’ It was a message that spoke directly to my generation, and one that I’ll always carry with me.”

The campaign kicks off with The Marla Thorogood Memorial Fund for Ovarian Cancer Research, established in memory of George’s wife who passed away in 2019. $1 from every ticket sold at participating venues is donated to the fund, as is 100% of net proceeds from a limitededition commemorative t-shirt. All proceeds go toward research at Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, whose leading studies of gene mutations can help identify women at risk for ovarian and breast cancer.

Over the following 6 weeks, the band will also spotlight Musically Fed, Convoy Of Hope, Gibson Gives, Music Health Alliance, The Blues Foundation’s HART Fund, The GRAMMY Museum, Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, Chic Awearness, Firefighter Cancer Support Network, and The Guitar Center Music Foundation. Team Thorogood is currently producing a series short videos that will highlight each charity for posting on their popular Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and X channels.

George Thorogood & The Destroyers are currently wrapping up a banner year that has included George’s famed Gibson ES-125TDC ‘Bad To The Bone’ guitar on permanent exhibit at The Rock

& Roll Hall of Fame; a recent Las Vegas Raiders halftime performance, their upcoming induction to The Musicians Hall of Fame; and the September 25th premiere of their top-rated

PBS Special, Recorded Live At Analog. The band’s acclaimed Baddest Show On Earth Tour resumes in March 2026.

  • JACK WHITE Urges Young Artists: “Drop the Screens and Get Your Hands Dirty”

This past weekend, The White Stripes were officially inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and frontman Jack White used his moment at the podium to deliver more than just a thank-you speech — he gave a rallying cry for the next generation of musicians.

After reflecting on the mysterious magic that makes certain songs and bands connect deeply with listeners, White turned his attention to today’s young artists and delivered a message that hit harder than a fuzzed-out guitar riff:

“And so, to the young artists, I want to say, get your hands dirty and drop the screens and get out in your garage or your little room and get obsessed. Get obsessed with something. You know, get passionate. We all want to share in what you might create.”

In an era where algorithms dictate taste and creativity often filters through a phone screen, White’s words felt like a much-needed wake-up call. The rock icon — who built his career on analog grit, raw emotion, and DIY spirit — reminded everyone that true artistry isn’t found in perfect lighting or trending sounds. It’s born in the grind: the garage, the basement, the late nights where obsession fuels innovation.

White’s speech echoed the same ethos that powered The White Stripes — a minimalist setup, maximum emotion, and an unfiltered connection between artist and audience. His challenge to young musicians wasn’t nostalgia for a pre-digital age, but a reminder that music at its core is human, physical, and imperfectly real.

So, whether it’s picking up a guitar, hammering out riffs on a drum kit, or writing lyrics that mean something — Jack White’s message is clear: step away from the screen, make some noise, and get your hands dirty. The next great rock revolution won’t start on TikTok — it’ll start in someone’s garage.
