  • Les Claypool Records New Theme Song For South America (FKA South Park)

Do you ever think about how much money Primus must’ve made for recording their incredibly annoying 30-second South Park theme song all those decades ago? South Park debuted in 1997! I don’t know how all the contracts and residuals must work, but I have to imagine that Les Claypool pretty much turned himself into Scrooge McDuck there. If you were to tell me that Claypool was the second-richest bass wizard on the planet, after Paul McCartney, I would believe you. Right now, South Park is back for its 29th season, but now it’s called South America. It has a new Les Claypool theme song, too.

RED VINTER SINK THE SUMMER WITH FESTIVAL SPECTACLES, RADIO SUPPORT, AND LIVE CRUSHING

Minnesota Doom/Death Metal Force Continues Momentum Behind Ghost In The Fog

St. Paul, Minnesota – Minnesota doom/death metal force Red Vinter are keeping the underground burning with a summer run of festival appearances, international radio support, and growing attention surrounding their latest full-length album, Ghost In The Fog .
Following the release of Ghost In The Fog , Red Vinter have been taking the album’s crushing combination of doom, death metal, and industrial darkness to stages across the Midwest. The band recently delivered a set at Northern Wisconsin Metalfest , and now a live video clip from the performance captures Red Vinter bringing the full weight of their sound to the festival stage.
The live footage arrives on the heels of another standout festival appearance at Sparta Metal Fest on August 22nd , where Red Vinter’s set was described as “massively crushing.” The performance made such an impression that the band was immediately invited back for the 5th Annual Sparta Metal Fest .

While the band’s live presence continues to grow, Ghost In The Fog is also finding its way into metal radio programming on both sides of the Atlantic.
The track “Swampflesh” has been spotlighted by High Speed Hangover , a metal radio show based in London, bringing Red Vinter’s swampy, crushing brand of doom/death to an international audience.

Meanwhile, “Kill The Sun” , also from Ghost In The Fog , has received spotlight treatment from Here There Be Dragons , the metal radio show on KMSU .
With multiple tracks from the new album now receiving radio attention and the band continuing to land festival appearances, Red Vinter are steadily expanding the reach of Ghost In The Fog while building their reputation onstage.
Recorded at the legendary 14:59 Studios in Minneapolis , Ghost In The Fog was co-produced by vocalist/bassist Mike Bullock and engineer Will Maravelas , continuing the creative partnership established on Red Vinter’s debut release, Lumbering Menace .
Across eight tracks, Ghost In The Fog delivers massive riffs, bleak atmosphere, death metal brutality, and industrial influence, creating a sound that is as punishing as it is immersive.
The album has also received praise from Frank Rini of Teeth of the Divine , who highlighted Red Vinter’s doom/death foundation alongside influences from Winter, Skin Chamber, and Godflesh , ultimately describing Ghost In The Fog as the band’s “best release” and praising its memorable, heavy songwriting.
Now, with live festival footage surfacing and tracks from Ghost In The Fog continuing to receive airplay, Red Vinter are proving that the record was built for more than headphones. It was built to be played loud.

  • Catching Up On All the Moves Gorgatron are Making

Things are a little bit different this week…Not that there’s anything drastic about the announcement concerning the new face of and forthcoming album by North Dakotan death thrashers Gorgatron, just a little bit of a different tone. Here’s why: The band originally hit me up to write a press release to collate all the new things going on in their world. So I did. Bassist/vocalist Cameron Dewald then asked when it was going to appear on Decibel’s website, not knowing that, aside from breaking news and announcements, a good portion of the content you see here usually has to be planned and confirmed comparatively far in advance. An innocent mistake. Well, time has come to unleash that mighty press release and catch up with what’s going on with Gorgatron as they make their latest moves. And a-way we go…

    GORGATRON PRESS ANNOUNCEMENT
Having been a band that has never locked onto a bee-line or followed the rules of convention in the racking up of accomplishments, North Dakota grind/death/thrash brigade Gorgatron are celebrating their 20th year of existence on Planet Metal with their usual unexpected expectedness. What this means is a near-complete overhaul and a new laser-sighted focus on life. The outfit that originally came to life as a grind project named after an Aqua Teen Hunger Force character — a band that bassist Cameron Dewald half-jokingly describes as “one that started as a joke that I now have to do taxes for” — are back with their fifth album, Turmoil and a whole host of changes — some temporary, some permanent.

The band’s latest sonic screed of melodic malevolence is scheduled for a fall release on burgeoning Italian imprint, Time to Kill Records, promising an uptick in focus and resources to accompany Gorgatron’s customary upending of extreme music conventions to go along with the revamped lineup. Joining Dewald and drummer Matt Johnson, is Ignominious vocalist Colin Richardson (not that Colin Richardson!) who replaces long-standing frontman Karl Schmidt. Richardson was approached as the recording process was coming down to the wire and ended up delivering a vocal performance that blew his new bandmates away. “To add,” adds Dewald, “we’re super-stoked on his live performance because he puts on a hell of a show that will go hand-in-hand with what Gorgatron does live!” Helping to keep the momentum moving is new guitarist Billy Zahn. The ex-Micawber and Vindicator shredder joins guitarist and original member Paul Johnson to keep the Gorgatron freight train barreling forward (Henri Jourdan will be temporarily filling for Johnson in a live capacity). In a corkscrew twist germane to Gorgatron’s left hand path, Zahn was actually touted to join the band back in 2022 before linking up with Micawber. Following that decision, the band ended up recruiting now ex-six string slinger Copper Schuh! With Zahn’s shredding capabilities locked, loaded and in Gorgatron’s pocket, Dewald asserts that the focus and drive is bubbling and bristling “to make this band bigger and better.”

With Johnson’s drums being recorded in Brooklyn at Thump Recordings and guitars and bass captured at various spots in the unsuspecting metallic triangle anchored by New Orleans, Omaha and Baltimore, artwork realized by Tony Koehl (who was responsible for the covers of the band’s 2010 and 2014 albums, Torturetorium and Inner Supremacy) and with the whole beast being mixed and mastered by Hour of Penance bassist Marco Mastrobuono, Turmoil is ready and set to make a statement. That being of perseverance, determination and dedication to one’s craft as well as the raw, unfiltered and inextinguishable love of heavy music. That which doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, as they say. Gorgotron have reconstituted leaner, meaner and stronger and ready to slay harder than ever.”

Also, that one dude is wearing a Wrathchild America shirt, so you know they gotta rule!

Phil Soussan Shares Cosmo Fighter Part One EP Trailer

Phil Soussan has released a video trailer featuring samples from every song on his forthcoming EP, Cosmo Fighter Part One. BraveWords Records will release the four-track set on 13 November 2026.

Cosmo Fighter is planned as a trilogy of three EPs. The first single, Fading Out, is available now, and fans who pre-order the EP through Bandcamp can download the track immediately.

Fading Out combines a sequencer-style bass line, a driving guitar riff and an unexpected time change in the chorus. Its message centres on the idea that those who choose to oppress others will eventually be “faded out” themselves.

Soussan describes Cosmo Fighter as a sonic roller coaster intended to challenge how listeners see the world.

“I started pulling from a vast reservoir of embryonic ideas,” Phil Soussan said. “Looking around, I saw a world with no shortage of things about which to write. Pacing back and forth, I had felt angry at the world, but I wasn’t mad at it.

“I certainly didn’t want to sound patronising, but I had this urge to inspire people to wake up and realise that all truths rest in our own intelligence.”

The spark ignited a brilliant concept, a reality check delivered from the perspective of someone who has just returned from the future – THE COSMO FIGHTER.

“I’m not talking Sci-Fi here,” Phil said. “Maybe only two or three years into the future, the Cosmo Fighter comes back into the present to recount what he has seen. Not that long ago, we were all so optimistic about what technology would bring to our lives. This character shows us that things will not always turn out as we imagine. It is entirely up to us to create our own destiny.”

Written, performed, produced and mixed by Soussan, apart from selected guest appearances, the project emerged during a rare break from touring.

    Cosmo Fighter Part One tracklist

    1. Fading Out
    2. The More You Take
    3. Fallen From Grace
    4. Please Don’t Make Me Wait

All four songs were written and recorded by Soussan, who also mixed and mastered the EP at Blue Cat Studios in Las Vegas. He performs all instruments and vocals, with Richie Kotzen contributing the guitar solos on Please Don’t Make Me Wait.

The EP is available to pre-order through Bandcamp. More information is available at philsoussan.com. Phil will host a listening party on 12 November. For more details visit here.

  • Warren Haynes: Dreams & Songs: A Symphonic Journey Review

The GRAMMY® Award-winning vocalist, songwriter, guitar legend, producer, and Gov’t Mule frontman Warren Haynes is releasing his long-awaited new album Dreams & Songs: A Symphonic Journey, on September 18th via Evil Teen Records and Provogue / Artone Label Group. Recorded in 2019 at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Haynes’ hometown of Asheville, NC, this live album features 16 tracks performed by Warren, his line-up of seasoned rock n’ roll improvisers, and a breath-taking 64-piece Asheville Symphony Orchestra.

The record begins with a statement of it being a live performance – you can hear the symphonic orchestra tuning their instruments, and the crowd murmur that turns into applause of anticipation. This mammoth blues rock symphony starts with a mellow and introspective “Dreams and Songs (Part 1)”. It becomes immediately apparent that the recording and production quality is unmatched, especially considering it’s a live recording. Every instrument shines through in this beautiful arrangement, and Haynes delivers the emotion with his signature smooth vocals. Sticking to the theme, “Dreams” follows. Starting with a horns section, followed by a percussion ensemble solo, before the strings join and invite the band to the party. Beautiful build up eventually leads into a jazzy sax solo and fusion-style guitar solo. Warren then turns to an absolute classic, “Banks of the Deep End”. The crowd reaction to the first few notes of the iconic riff made it obvious just how much of a fan favourite this song is. The vocal harmonies in the chorus are heavenly, while the orchestra adds depth to an already dramatic bridge section in this tune. Drums and percussion introduce “Spots of Time” as the setlist gradually increases tempo and intensity. Warren pours his heart and soul into that guitar solo, and so does Greg Osby on saxophone.

The guitar tone in “Broken Promised Land” is so, so rich and warm. The dynamics are unbelievable in this rendition too. The orchestra can help build such tension, and then diminishes just like that, letting the soloist shine. Hats off to the arrangers as well as all the musicians making it happen on stage. Special mention to Haynes’ vocal delivery on this one. Jaw-dropping! “Thorazine Shuffle” fires the crowd right up, and presents a perfect platform for every performer to introduce themselves, with solo sections aplenty. The drum solo is something else though, must-hear! The lovely rendition of “Makes No Difference” brings that true southern vibe with those vocal harmonies in the chorus.

A cheeky groove and a fiery drum fill paves the way for The Grateful Dead tune “Terrapin Station”, a progressive rock classic that culminates with huge orchestral sections; it’s a symphony of its own. “Raven Black Night” follows, as atmospheric, mysterious and dark as the title suggests. The electric organ solo is the absolute highlight of this track that truly represents movie soundtrack material with its extensive use of dynamic contrasts and exotic scales. As you can imagine, the orchestra only adds to it. Brightening up the mood is a funky, bluesy “Just Another Rider”. Warren Haynes once again showcases his blues guitar mastery in this one. Insane feel, technique, and tone.

“Black Peter” feels like a somewhat disturbing ballroom dancing number. This Grateful Dead tune is ideal for such a big orchestra, with all the instruments adding different shades to the picture. A swinging rhythm kicks off “Instrumental Illness,” the jazzy tune that features those signature Allman Brothers guitar harmonies. A laidback version of U2’s “One” follows, with lovely strings section adding a wonderfully cosy texture to the rendition. A wah-drenched riff accompanied by the horns in unison then introduces “Shakedown Street”. Another Allman Brothers classic follows in “Whipping Post,” sending the crowd delirious, before the grand finale of “Dreams and Songs (Reprise)” marking a true full circle moment for this journey that ends in a long ovation.

Dreams & Songs: A Symphonic Journey is a unique voyage through Warren Haynes’ 30+ year catalogue, that includes his solo work as well as music from Gov’t Mule, Allman Brothers Band, and The Dead. The whole performance feels like a jam session at times, but don’t be fooled, these tunes were meticulously arranged for the orchestra and so well-rehearsed. It’s the sheer musicianship and instrumental mastery that make it all sound so effortless and whimsical at times. What started out as a bold take on some of the cult classics, ended up becoming one of the highlight fixtures of the musical calendar, as Dreams & Songs A Symphonic Experience took a life of its own following its 2019 debut.

  • TEMPLUM SILVA CHALLENGE THE ACCEPTANCE OF SUFFERING ON NEW ALBUM TO LEAVE BEHIND THE GIVEN – @thebeast

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TEMPLUM SILVA CHALLENGE THE ACCEPTANCE OF SUFFERING ON NEW ALBUM TO LEAVE BEHIND THE GIVEN
Bulgarian Metal Project Delivers a Philosophical Collision of Melodic Death, Progressive, and Post-Metal

Templum Silva invite listeners to question the realities they have been taught to simply accept with the release of their new album, To Leave Behind the Given , released August 20, 2026. Blending melodic death metal, progressive metal, and post-metal , the album presents a dark and introspective exploration of suffering, despair, existence, and the human tendency to rationalize the circumstances of life.
Written and recorded entirely by Yovan Parlikov , To Leave Behind the Given is built around a conceptual framework and additional lyrics contributed by Denislav Nedyalkov . Rather than treating suffering and misery as unavoidable components of some predetermined universal order, Templum Silva challenge the idea that human beings should simply accept the uglier aspects of existence because they are considered necessary or inevitable.
The album’s central philosophy confronts a familiar human tendency: to explain difficult events by convincing ourselves that they happened for a reason, or that things unfolded exactly as they were supposed to. While such thinking can provide a sense of order, To Leave Behind the Given questions whether accepting that supposed order actually allows us to overcome suffering, or simply teaches us to swallow it.
“Reality is not a shared totality and is not predetermined by it.”
That concept sits at the heart of Templum Silva’s latest work. To Leave Behind the Given asks listeners to reconsider the assumptions placed upon existence and to recognize that suffering does not necessarily need to be justified simply because it exists.
Musically, the album’s combination of melodic death metal, progressive elements, and post-metal atmosphere provides a fitting foundation for those themes, moving between heaviness, complexity, and darker expansive passages. The result is an album that approaches extreme metal not simply as an outlet for aggression, but as a vehicle for confronting difficult questions about existence and the ways people make peace with things they perhaps should not accept.
The album was mastered at Silent Observer Studio by Tomáš Svoboda , with artwork created by Nini Taneva .

  • Saturday Night Live UK Returns With Royal Blood, Rachel Chinouriri and More Musical Guests

Saturday Night Live UK returned for its second series on September 12, bringing its live comedy format back to Sky and NOW. New episodes air Saturdays at 10 p.m., with each installment pairing a celebrity host with a musical guest.

Topical sketches, live music performances and a British take on “Weekend Update” continue to shape each broadcast.

Series 2 opened with Jeff Goldblum hosting and CMAT handling the musical performances, while Royal Blood and Rachel Chinouriri are booked for upcoming episodes.

Six episodes make up the opening 2026 run, with additional shows planned for early 2027.

Royal Blood Join Jamie Demetriou on September 19

    Saturday Night Live UK
Royal Blood’s appearance comes shortly before the planned November release of Dead Company.

Jamie Demetriou takes over hosting duties on September 19, joined by Royal Blood as musical guests.

Demetriou is a four-time BAFTA-winning comedy writer and actor best known for Stath Lets Flats and The Moment.

Royal Blood will bring a heavier rock presence to the second episode of the series. Brighton duo Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher are also preparing to release their new album Dead Company in November, placing their SNL UK performance shortly ahead of that release.

Booking Royal Blood continues SNL UK’s approach of placing live music at the center of each weekly broadcast rather than treating it as a minor addition to the comedy.

SNL UK Season 2 So Far

Jeff Goldblum and CMAT launched Series 2 on September 12. Goldblum became the first host of the new run, while CMAT performed as the episode’s musical guest.

Current scheduling confirms six episodes in the opening batch:

    Date Host Musical Guest
    September 12 Jeff Goldblum CMAT
September 19 Jamie Demetriou Royal Blood
September 26 Amelia Dimoldenberg Rachel Chinouriri
October 10 To be announced To be announced
October 17 To be announced To be announced
October 24 To be announced To be announced

Additional episodes are planned for early 2027. Sky previously commissioned 12 episodes for the second series, split between autumn 2026 and early 2027.

SNL UK originally launched in March 2026, with Tina Fey hosting its debut and Wet Leg performing.

Jamie Dornan, Riz Ahmed and Nicola Coughlan later appeared as hosts, while Kasabian and Foo Fighters were among the musical guests booked during the first series.

Fans checking SNL UK schedules or entertainment updates while using public Wi-Fi in airports, hotels, cafés, or other shared spaces can use a VPN to encrypt their internet connection and add another layer of privacy on unsecured networks.

Rachel Chinouriri Performs With Amelia Dimoldenberg Hosting

    Saturday Night Live UK
Rachel Chinouriri adds indie pop to a season already spanning several distinct musical styles.

Amelia Dimoldenberg will host the September 26 episode, with Rachel Chinouriri booked as musical guest.

Dimoldenberg is the award-winning host, writer and producer behind Chicken Shop Date, a series known for deliberately awkward celebrity interviews and dry comedy.

Chinouriri arrives at SNL UK after announcing her new album I Think I Spoke Too Soon.

Her booking brings indie pop into a run that moves quickly between very different styles, following CMAT and Royal Blood during the first three episodes.

Pairing Dimoldenberg with Chinouriri also keeps the focus on current British entertainment figures rather than relying only on established television and film names.

Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracres, Ania Magliano, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep, Emma Sidi and Paddy Young have returned.

Freddie Meredith joins them as the new cast addition. His credits include Such Brave Girls and Big Boys, while his Edinburgh Fringe show Need a Light? earned a Best Newcomer Award nomination.

Live sketches, recurring characters, topical comedy and “Weekend Update” continue to give the ensemble a major role alongside each week’s visiting host.

U.S. SNL Adds Turnstile, Rosalía, KATSEYE and Gracie Abrams

    Saturday Night Live UK
Both the UK and U.S. editions are placing prominent contemporary artists at the center of their new seasons.

SNL UK’s new music bookings arrive as the original American Saturday Night Live prepares for its 52nd season, which begins September 26.

KATSEYE has been announced for the season premiere, while Turnstile, Rosalía and Gracie Abrams are also among the musical guests confirmed for early episodes.

Music therefore has a major presence across both versions of the program as their new seasons get underway.

British viewers are getting CMAT, Royal Blood and Rachel Chinouriri during SNL UK’s first three episodes, while the U.S. show is opening its own run with several prominent pop and alternative acts.

SNL UK Builds Season 2 Around Comedy and Live Music

Series 2 is continuing the structure established during SNL UK’s first run, pairing recognizable hosts with artists active across several corners of contemporary music.

Royal Blood bring British rock to the September 19 broadcast, while Rachel Chinouriri brings indie pop a week later. CMAT’s opening-night performance gives the first three episodes distinct musical identities rather than repeating a single style.

Hosts and musical guests for October 10, October 17 and October 24 have yet to be announced, leaving several major bookings still open as SNL UK continues its second series.

Royal Blood and Rachel Chinouriri Show the Range of SNL UK’s Music Bookings

Royal Blood and Rachel Chinouriri give consecutive episodes very different musical identities.

Royal Blood bring a heavier rock sound on September 19, while Chinouriri follows with indie pop on September 26.

Booking both artists also shows how SNL UK is using its music slots to cover several corners of current British music.

CMAT opened Series 2, followed by Royal Blood and Chinouriri, giving each of the first three broadcasts a distinct sound.

More SNL UK Hosts and Musical Guests Are Still Coming

October will bring another group of SNL UK episodes, with broadcasts scheduled for October 10, October 17 and October 24.

Hosts and musical guests for those dates have not yet been announced.

More episodes are also planned for early 2027 as part of the second series.

New announcements will expand a lineup that already includes Jeff Goldblum, Jamie Demetriou, Amelia Dimoldenberg, CMAT, Royal Blood and Rachel Chinouriri.

    Summary

Season 2 gives SNL UK another chance to build its identity through live comedy, topical sketches and strong musical bookings.

Royal Blood and Rachel Chinouriri bring contrasting sounds to the next episodes, while CMAT helped set the tone for the season premiere.

With several October guests still unannounced and more episodes planned for early 2027, plenty of major names could still join the lineup.
