Vintegral – Toward the Last Dawn (2026)
Postmodernity made people afraid of conflict, so even metalheads make music that dodges the inherent clash needed for change: droning melodic black metal where riffs follow each other not in a dialogue but in a passing conversation which resolves nothing after hours.
Vintegral aims for a more sentimental but action-driven take on music with this album of militant funeral dirges that borrow heavily from Swedish melodic death metal like early Merciless or Sacramentum fused with Enslaved and Graveland style sweeping high-energy melodic black metal.
If this album has a weakness, it is that songs are very similar to each other, but this helps it maintain a theme, and over time more variety may develop, and unlike most black metal, this actually has a point and discusses it like men with knives and not hipsters in coffee shops.

COLD CAVE to Perform 2009’s “Cremations” Live for the First Time at a Cemetery in LA and Church in Brooklyn
Tickets for the Los Angeles and Brooklyn performances are available here.
The announcement caps an especially active stretch for Cold Cave. Their most recent full-length, Passion Depression, released in October 2024, offered eight songs of romantic synth-pop, devotional ache, and after-hours intensity, while Wesley Eisold and Amy Lee have kept the project in steady motion. This year, Cold Cave toured the West Coast with Berlin-born singer Rosa Anschütz and Buzz Kull, who recently released the Deep Hate EP via Heartworm. Cold Cave then joined Clan of Xymox, Buzz Kull and Anschütz throughout April and May 2026, again with on the bill, turning the road into a moving map of Heartworm’s current darkwave, minimal synth, and post-punk sphere.
Cold Cave Live Dates:
- 11 September — Los Angeles, CA — Hollywood Forever Cemetery with Rosa Anschütz
- 19 September — Brooklyn, NY — First Unitarian Church with Rosa Anschütz
- 14 November — Huntington Beach, CA — Darker Waves Festival

Tricky Announces First North American Tour Since 2018 in Support of New Album “Different When It’s Silent” — Watch Video for “Out of Place”
Trip-hop icon Tricky will return to the U.S. and Canada this fall for his first North American shows since 2018, announcing a 17-date run behind his forthcoming new album, Different When It’s Silent.
Different When It’s Silent, due out on July 17 via Tricky’s own False Idols label, is his 15th studio album and his first full-length release under the Tricky name in six years. The record follows 2020’s Fall to Pieces, as well as a prolific run of projects that includes the collaborative Lonely Guest, the Fifteen Days project with producer Mike Theis under the name Theis Thaws, and last year’s joint record Out The Way with Marta Zlakowska.
The new album’s first single, “Out Of Place”, features Zlakowska, whose restrained vocal is set against Tricky’s urgent, almost punk-like delivery. Originally written for Marta’s own album, the song eventually found its way back to Tricky and closes out Different When It’s Silent.
Recorded between Tricky’s home in France and sessions in Bristol, the album also features Bristol singer Mitch Sanders, whose soulful falsetto runs through much of the record. Across fourteen tracks, Different When It’s Silent reportedly blends skeletal blues, brooding electronics, distorted guitars, and stark hip-hop rhythms into a sound that reconnects with the distinctive language Tricky has been bending since his groundbreaking 1995 debut, Maxinquaye.
“In my mind it was another side project,” Tricky says of the album. But after hearing the material, his manager, Alan McGee, felt the songs clearly belonged to a Tricky record.
“I just love making music,” Tricky says. “I’m grateful I’ve had the chance to live this life and keep creating.”

From Vanilla Ninja to Alexandra Căpitănescu: 10 Women Who Rocked the Eurovision Stage

The 2026 Eurovision Song Contest gave heavy music fans a moment they won’t soon forget when Romania’s Alexandra Căpitănescu stormed the stage and secured a phenomenal third-place finish. Her performance of “Choke Me” was a total powerhouse display, matching fierce vocal weight with a commanding, sharp theatrical presence that completely captivated the arena, and produced the loudest cheers (someone actually measured that). This result showed that while democracy is not perfect, it surely is better than a system where a closed group of people decides everything; the votes of the audience largely fixed the baffling jury verdict, rightfully sending Alexandra to third place (though it’s still not perfect because she didn’t win). Her fan-driven rise highlights a proud legacy of women who have defied standard pop trends to bring genuine rock and metal to the Eurovision stage. Here are 10 phenomenal female acts who did exactly that. (the best for last)
1. Vanilla Ninja – “Cool Vibes”
Switzerland, 2005, 8th
The all-female band secured a top-ten finish with a track driven by heavy guitar riffs and classic early-2000s alternative rock energy.
2. Hanna Pakarinen – “Leave Me Alone”
Finland, 2007, 17th
Performing on home turf, she delivered a heavy, brooding dose of melodic gothic rock.
3. Natalia Barbu – “Fight”
Moldova, 2007, 10th
Her act brilliantly combined dramatic symphonic rock with classical violin hooks and massive vocals.
4. Alyosha – “Sweet People”
Ukraine, 2010, 10th
Standing completely alone on stage, she held the arena’s attention with a stripped-back, ballad-post-grunge rock anthem.
5. Eldrine – “One More Day”
Georgia, 2011, 9th
Fronted by Sophio Toroshelidze, this group delivered heavy, down-tuned nu-metal riffs paired with a massive melodic chorus.
6. Kaliopi – “Crno i belo”
North Macedonia, 2012, 13th
A single, piercing hard-rock scream halfway through her performance completely transformed a standard ballad into a heavy anthem.
7. Megara – “11:11”
San Marino, 2024, 14th (Semi-Final)
Kenzy Loevett brought a striking visual style backed by punchy, modern alternative metal.
8. Aiko – “Pedestal”
Czechia, 2024, 11th (Semi-Final)
She brought a sharp, 90s-inspired alternative rock performance focused on independence and frustration.
9. Gåte – “Ulveham”
Norway, 2024, 25th
Gunnhild Sundli combined traditional Nordic vocal styles with a massive, driving folk-metal backing.
10. Alexandra Căpitănescu – “Choke Me”
Romania, 2026, 3rd
The most recent queen in our list, and the highest ranking. Her fan-voted third-place finish showed that a heavy, uncompromising rock track can completely disrupt the competition.

EP Review: Bloodkill “Systemic Disruption”

Forming out of Mumbai, India in 2016, Bloodkill is steered by founding members Vishwas Shetty and Yash Wadkar. Following the band's 2021 album "Throne of Control," the band is back with their newest EP "Systemic Disruption," which explores themes of humanity falling victim to the ever-changing digital landscape where social media, adult content, the lack of data privacy, and the growing use of AI have become normal.
The EP comes to life with the self-titled track "Systemic Disruption." The song begins with a beeping radio frequency noise as lofi instrumentals can be heard in the distance. Suddenly, the band bursts into full intensity and clarity as raw screams, slamming thrash riffage, and booming drum grooves fill the mix. Quickly, Bloodkill builds a sound that reminds me of classic thrash acts like Slayer and Exodus while having a modern heavy metal touch. At just over 3 minutes, the title track keeps a high pace and sense of energy throughout its runtime.
Next up is "Digital Spell", which starts with a slamming drum fill and a riff that lightly reminded me of "Raining Blood" before bursting into full band destruction. Vocals in the second track feel more shrill and visceral, taking on a more unpolished but heavy sound as drop-tuned guitar riffage and explosive drum and bass grooves build up the song. "Digital Spell" creates a great chorus where high guitar leads create a sense of melody behind the fierce screaming. Unexpectedly, Bloodkill throws the listener into the midst of a death metal breakdown as slowed chugging, low growls, double bass drumming, and intentional guitar dissonance form together to create an explosive sound that is faded out with a soaring guitar solo.
"Temptress" continues the thrash atmosphere, kicking in quickly with a blast beat before introducing a dissonant guitar riff, which felt eccentric, almost reminding me of Primus briefly before turning into a more traditional death thrash sound. At just under 3 minutes, "Temptress" offers a good variety of pacing and tempo changes that keep the song feeling dynamic and interesting throughout before a layered solo and breakdown lead into a final speeding riff.
Final track, "The Hidden Hands" bursts into action with screeching guitar pinch harmonics, slamming drum grooves, and screaming vocals. The racing tempo and galloping riffs further thrash influences while brutal guitarwork reminds of death metal and extreme metal genres. "The Hidden Hands" is the longest track of the album, at just under 4 minutes, and it keeps roughly the same pacing through the track before introducing a bridge with a guitar solo and a more atmospheric instrumental vibe.
Overall, Bloodkill showcases a blend of thrash and death metal with a raw production and visceral sound. You can stream the band's latest EP, "Systemic Disruption," available on Bandcamp now!
