  • WU LYF Announce First Album In 15 Years: Hear “Love Your Fate”

The churning, mysterious Manchester indie rockers WU LYF built up a fervent cult in the early ’10s, but they didn’t stick around for long. The band only released one album, 2011’s Go Tell Fire To The Mountain, before breaking up in 2012. Last year, the band returned, playing live shows, releasing the singles “A New…

  • Mini-Album Premiere: Hating Life – Revenge From Beyond

Death metal history carries weight, and few names carry more of it than Grave’s earliest material. So when a new project surfaces under the name Hating Life, expectations are immediately set: HM-2 filth, down-tuned riffs, and a deep reverence for the genre’s late ’80s and early ’90s foundations. On debut release Revenge From Beyond, those expectations are met—while still leaving room for something personal to emerge from the decay.

Hating Life is the creation of Santiago Cavero, guitarist and founding member of Spain’s long-running old-school death metal outfit Ataraxy. Describing the project as a spontaneous return to more primitive roots, Cavero credits simple tools—“a Gibson Les Paul and an HM-2 pedal”—for unlocking a flood of riffs, melodies, and ideas that didn’t quite fit within Ataraxy’s more defined identity. The result is death metal that’s deliberately putrid and raw, steeped in the atmosphere and tone that first drew him to the genre.

That lineage isn’t hidden. The opening track is bluntly titled ‘Into the Grave,’ a nod Cavero describes as both tribute and declaration of intent. “The first Grave material was and remains a clear exponent of the kind of death metal that truly motivated me to compose the tracks for this,” he explains. Still, this isn’t a hollow exercise in reenactment. While rooted in classic influences, Hating Life acknowledges the present, shaped by decades of listening rather than a single frozen moment in time.

Cavero handles all instrumentation on Revenge From Beyond, while longtime Ataraxy collaborator Javier Manzano steps in on vocals and lyrical duties. Recorded between Cavero’s home studio and the rehearsal room, the release was captured and mixed by Cavero himself, prioritizing immediacy and atmosphere over polish. The result feels dense, oppressive, and direct—death metal stripped to its essentials without losing intent.

Lyrically and thematically, Revenge From Beyond embraces death metal’s fixation on violence, barbarism, and mortality, not as nostalgia but as obsession. “We are simply two guys who are passionate about death metal and how death, human barbarism, and violence are all reflected in it,” Cavero notes. From its Grave-laden opening to the title track’s crawling menace, the release wears its influences proudly while standing firmly in the present.

Released February 27 via Pulverised Records, Revenge From Beyond is a concise, uncompromising statement—less about reinventing death metal than reaffirming why it still matters.

  • American Football Share Beautiful New Song ‘Bad Moons’

American Football have shared the first piece of their upcoming 4th full-length album, and it finds them in a stunningly inventive mood.

The track is called ‘Bad Moons’ and is a sensational piece of delicate, thoughtful and emotional songwriting. Incorporating all the twinkly emo notes the band have been so influential in crafting, but throwing in shimmering keys, soft beats, and intricate storytelling via Mike Kinsella’s caramel tones, it demonstrates they aren’t looking to rest on their laurels. Culminating in a post-rock-esque conclusion, built to a razor-sharp crescendo, the hairs on the back of your neck will be standing to attention.

It is quite simply beautiful, a radiant, expressive, forward-thinking piece of alternative music that feels as homely as it does box-fresh. A demonstration of what it means to let the music carry you where it wants to, even when you’ve been making it for nearly 30 years.

Mike had this to say about the origins of the song, explaining, “‘Bad Moons’ is actually a Frankenstein of two different demos we’d been passing around for quite a while: one playful, with children playing and toy-pianos plinking; one brooding, with guitars screeching and drums bombasting. I had already been singing the “(…) in the dark” mantra over the latter, so the biggest challenge for me was thematically bridging the innocence and buoyancy of the first act with the deep despair of the second. I decided to begin the song as a child. Or, rather…two. Stacked up in a single trench coat; secretly, reluctantly living the life of a grown man, accruing all of his missteps and guilt along the way. By the end, these missteps are almost spilling out of the boys. A cathartic confession, hopefully at least somewhat relatable to anyone listening who’s ever lived a life.”

‘American Football (LP4)’ will be released on May 01 via Polyvinyl.

  • Mallavora / Debut Album What If Better Never Comes? Ready For March 2026

Mallavora will release their debut album, What If Better Never Comes?, on 27 March 2026.

Church Road Records have announced that rising UK Alt-Metal outfit Mallavora will release their debut album, What If Better Never Comes?, on 27 March 2026. The band’s latest single, Hopeless, is out today.

“We wrote this song at a time when everything just felt too hard,” the band said, “and the challenges we face felt insurmountable. We learned that it’s ok to let your guard down, take off your brave face and accept that there really is no such thing as certainty.

“Staring down the possibility that things might not get better can be terrifying, and feels so hard to do. But it’s not about abandoning hope altogether. Rather, it’s about letting go of things that we don’t have any control over, and trying to find the balance between acceptance and hope.

“We know hopelessness can be incredibly lonely, so we hope this song provides some solace and connection for anyone who relates to its meaning.”

Since forming in 2020, Mallavora have built serious momentum in Heavy Music, landing support from BBC Radio 1 and Kerrang! Radio, and drawing attention across the rock and Metal Press. The band made their Download Festival debut in 2024, completed their first UK headline tour, and have shared stages with Skindred. In 2025, they have continued that run with appearances at 2000 Trees (main stage) and Alyx Holcombe’s MANTRA showcase.

Mallavora have also been turning up in unexpected places, from Boomtown and Burn It Down Festivals to London Fashion Week, where they provided the soundtrack to Unhidden’s latest range.

Most recently, vocalist Jessica Douek contributed striking “banshee-like” wails to an episode of BBC One’s The Celebrity Traitors, showcasing a range that moves from soaring clean vocals to the extremes of fry screaming.

All of that leads to What If Better Never Comes?, a record the band describe as a conceptual exploration of sickness, both personal and societal, and a space to express lived experiences of difference.

“We are so proud to announce the release of our debut album, What If Better Never Comes?,” says Jessica Douek. “We hope its vulnerability, and the message it carries, brings comfort and catharsis to anyone who’s ever lived inside emotions too complex to name.”

For Mallavora, the music comes first, but the band’s songs are grounded in fierce honesty. Guitarist Larry Sobieraj channels his own experiences of chronic illness into the instrumentals.

“It’s almost like a therapy tool to process these complicated and difficult things that a lot of people don’t understand, things that are hard to put into words,” he says. “I want to be able to sit there and listen to the music and feel how I felt while writing it.”

Sobieraj’s instrumentals are then passed to Douek, who turns that emotional response into lyrics. “It makes it quite powerful in the sense that I can feel what he has written, and then I put that into words, associated with grief of becoming ill or losing a healthier version of yourself,” she explains. “There’s a lot of rage about societal barriers and being treated differently.”

Completed by bassist Ellis James and drummer Sam Brownlow, Mallavora have become strong advocates for accessibility, committing to only headline venues accessible enough for them and their audience.

Mallavora have their album release show and biggest headliner to date on Friday, 8 May 2026 at Exchange in Bristol. Tickets are available here.
