  • Marc Broussard announces “Chance Worth Taking”

Powerhouse soul singer Marc Broussard will release his first full album of original blues material, Chance Worth Taking, on April 17 via KTBA Records.

The 14-track album was produced by Joe Bonamassa, Josh Smith, and Calvin Turner. Bonamassa contributes guitar on 10 tracks and co-wrote three songs with Broussard. Smith appears on and co-wrote four tracks, while Turner co-wrote 10 songs and contributed to the album’s string and horn arrangements.

Reflecting on the recording process, Broussard said, “The songwriting felt like a fever dream of creativity and inspiration. Joe and his band are among the best musicians in the world, and everything came together seamlessly. It was an incredible week with an amazing group of people.”

The album’s first singles, “No More” and “Fever,” are available now. “No More” is a cinematic blues ballad featuring orchestral arrangements and Bonamassa’s guitar work, while “Fever” leans into a modern blues-rock groove with funk-influenced rhythms and lead guitar from Josh Smith.

While Chance Worth Taking marks a stylistic shift toward blues, Broussard’s signature “bayou soul” vocal style remains central. The album blends traditional blues, soul, blues-rock, funk, and New Orleans influences.

The project originated when Turner suggested recording an album of original blues material and sent Broussard a collection of instrumental tracks. Broussard wrote lyrics rapidly over several days before refining the songs in the studio with Bonamassa.

“I would wake up at 6:00 a.m. and write until 11:00 p.m. I’d be in the studio sweating like a madman,” Broussard said.

He added, “I’m still more versed in soul music than in blues, but I’m getting an education in the genre and its history from Joe and Josh. When we got into the studio, Joe wasn’t fully convinced we had a blues album, so he added to the songs we already had, and we wrote three others together. In the end, we got to the promised land.”

The album features a wide range of styles, including big-band-inspired blues, horn-driven blues-rock, and ballads. Several tracks showcase improvisational interplay between Bonamassa, Smith, and Reese Wynans. The record closes with “Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler,” co-written with Trombone Shorty.

Fans of Broussard’s earlier work will also find traditional soul ballads, including the title track and “Sweet Love,” which feature gospel influences and layered harmonies.

Looking ahead to the release, Broussard said, “Man, I’m so excited about it all. It’s time for me to move into my bluesman phase. At this stage of my life, I’m all about it.”

  • Chopped Up’s DEBUT delivers a good ole ass kicking!

Chopped Up – Chopped The Fuck Up

Chopped Up come out of the gate swinging. If you like horror movie intros/outros, old school death and blood-spattered grindcore, you’ll dig deep into these dudes. Chopped The Fuck Up, is a really fun and gorey ride. I love the pace of the four track EP. It’s never self-indulgent or overly technical. Tracks all come in under 3:00 minutes which makes this one a great relisten. I’m a big fan of the combo pig squeals(used just the right amount) and the gag reflex triggering, gutteral vocals. My favorite track off this EP is Meat The Cleaver, which begins with a spasdic Ratamahatta-Max Cavalera style scat. I really respect the band’s take on the genre. This is one you can throw on and rock out to. No pretense and it doesn’t leave you feeling queasy.

****And before anyone says, “but you didn’t make mention of the band members who are well known Pro Wrestling veterans who’ve toured the world spilling their opponents (and their own) blood on mats around the world“. Yes Shlak(CZW, etc) and Dirty Daddy(ROH/NJPW) are prominent members of this band (and several others over the years). I give this a Dave “what’s his face” FIVE STARS. Happy? Now throw this on and frogsplash ya mother.

  • Sh*t That Comes Out Today: February 20, 2026

    MS.BANNER

Another week, another edition of STCOT. We’re inching our way closer and closer to springtime, so that’s a good thing. And thankfully we’ve got some new metal to help us get through the dregs of winter.

Sh*t That Comes Out Today: February 20, 2026

    Abstracted

    Hiraeth (M-Theory Audio)

Brazilian progressive death metal. That’s a combination of words I don’t think I’ve ever written before, but that’s because as far as my Brazilian metal goes, it’s Sepultura, Angra, and that’s it. It’s a good thing that this outfit exists, because it’s groovy as hell at times, keeps the listener guessing, and really grips you from the start. Definitely check this out if you too have never heard of Abstracted.

Sh*t That Comes Out Today: February 20, 2026

    Dissentience

    Kaiju (Self-Released)

Keeping the progressive death/thrash metal theme going, this Pennsylvania-based band rip through this EP. They’ve only got four songs on offer in this one, but those four songs will leave you wanting to start the whole thing over when you’re done.

Sh*t That Comes Out Today: February 20, 2026

    Exhumed

    Red Asphalt (Relapse)

We all should know the gory, brutal tendencies of deathgrind masters Exhumed. Once again, these guys go heavy on the meaty, bloody bits of their death metal tendencies, offering a nasty new listen for new and old fans alike.

Sh*t That Comes Out Today: February 20, 2026

    Sylosis

    The New Flesh (Nuclear Blast)

Album number seven for this English melodic death metal band continues their growth as a unit. These guys continue to absolutely tear shit up on their guitars while still managing to offer up some massive choruses that will surely get the crowds singing along at live shows.

Sh*t That Comes Out Today: February 20, 2026

    Worm Shepherd

Dawn Of The Iconoclast (Unique Leader Records)

You want heavy? You want dark? What about dismal? Because you can get all three in this EP from this Massachusetts-based blackened deathcore act. They only need five songs to blow your head back out your ass.

Other Shit That Comes Out Today:

Aeon Gods, Reborn To Light (Scarlet Records)
Amongruins, Advent Of Chaos (Theogonia Records)
Coscradh, Carving The Causeway To The Otherworld (20 Buck Spin)
Dimscûa, Dust Eater (Big Scary Monsters)
Ender, Ender II: In Silent Throne (Praetorian Records)
    Evig Natt, Vaketimen (Wormholedeath)
    Incandescence, Hors Temps (Profound Lore)
    Phasma, Purgatory (Transcending Obscurity Records)
W.E.B., Darkness Alive (Metal Blade Records)
Wreck-Defy, Dissecting The Leech (Massacre Records)
