  • A year after the terror attack, Israeli singer Eytan comforts with a song about love

A broken goodbye. But we’ll meet again.

By Michael Hartmann. October 7, 2024.

“No matter what. We’ll never give up. No matter what. We’ll rise up above.”

These words are taken from the latest song by Israeli singer Eytan. Yesterday, he shared a message on Instagram.

He updated his followers about the terror attack on October 7th last year. Terrorists infiltrated southern Israel and killed men, women, and children. In total, 1,139 people were killed, according to wikipedia.

It was the most devastating attack on Jews since the Holocaust.

“It has been a difficult year emotionally. For me. For my people. Today is 364 days since October 7th. I thought this would all be done in a week or two but we’re still here. To argue for almost a year with people who believe we should not exist. I decided to speak up. I won’t let anyone tell me or the jewish people we should not exist. To the hostages still being held, please be strong.”

He spoke directly to his followers: “It’s been a year since October 7th and we still have not come together to recognize the fight against terrorism.”

You can see the post on instagram/eytanofficial. (Photo via Instagram/eytanofficial).

His new song is called No Matter What. As a result of last year’s terror attack, the song has a message about overcoming challenges.

    “A broken goodbye

    But we’ll meet again

    We have no choice

    We will use our voice”

    Here is the lyric video:

A master of upbeat pop songs, ballads, and everything in between, Eytan has a unique voice. His pop songs are catchy and emotional:

As a male singer, Eytan pushes boundaries by touching into the essence that can be found in female singers, thus adding a depth of emotions that few male singers are capable of conveying. He sings about life and love in a way that calms the soul and eases the mind:

In an interview with Cover Story in 2018, Eytan shared about his song Am Yisrael Chai:

“In the last few years I started reconnecting again with my religion and faith. To be honest, Am Yisrael Chai just came so naturally. I’m a very spiritual person and I love and believe in God and I felt that I wanted to give back to him after he has done so much for me.”

You can read the interview here: Let love win: Pop singer Eytan: – I hope this song will touch billions of hearts.

Become enchanted by Eytan’s music if you haven’t already. You will be comforted by his voice and personality. The ballads he writes are full of inspiration, warmth, and, most importantly, love.

    No Matter What Lyrics:

    Verse 1:

    Can you hear me

    I am screaming

For you to hear my soul

    I am holding on

    To a love so strong

I can hear a nations call

    We’ll fight till the end

    Not a back will bend

We’re here to give our all

    Pre chorus: x2

    I’m here loving you

    Cause If the world knew

    What we’re going through

    They’d love us too

    Chorus x2:

    No matter what

    We’ll never give up

    No matter what

    We’ll rise up above

when it comes down to us

    We’ll always choose love

    Always choose love

    Verse 2:

    Another sigh

    A broken goodbye

    But we’ll meet again

    We have no choice

    We will use our voice

    let it reach heaven

    We’ll fight till the end

    Not a back will bend

We’re here to give our all

    Pre chorus: x2

    I’m here loving you

    Cause If the world knew

    What we’re going through

    They’d love us too

    Chorus x2:

    No matter what

    We’ll never give up

    No matter what

    We’ll rise up above

when it comes down to us

    We’ll always choose love

    Always choose love

    Bridge:

    So let us pray

    For better days

    Let the sun beam down

    Warm us with its rays

    No matter what

    We’ll never give up

    No matter what

    We’ll rise up above

when it comes down to us

    We’ll always choose love

    Always choose love

    Chorus x2:

    No matter what

    We’ll never give up

    No matter what

    We’ll rise up above

when it comes down to us

    We’ll always choose love

    Outro: x2

    I’m here loving you

    Cause if the world knew

    what we’re going through

    They’d love us too

  • Neomantra – Paranosis – EP Review – Contemporary Doom Metal from Perth, Western Australia

Neomantra - Paranosis - EP Review - Contemporary Doom Metal from Perth, Western Australia

It is one of those last sunny days here in the North, and I sense a feeling similar to a Sunday vibe with its calmness, along with my day off. While taking my walk outside, I’m writing these words after listening to Paranosis for the last time, the most recent EP by the contemporary doom metal band Neomantra, from Perth, Western Australia. Let’s begin.

NEOMANTRA – ASTRAL PRISON (Official Music Video)

First and foremost, Paranosis is a fantastic-sounding album that easily qualifies Neomantra as an established band. Although I’ve never been a fan of doom metal myself, I would listen to these Australian gentlemen not only for their sound—but it plays a crucial role regardless. It wasn’t a surprise to hear that they’ve earned support from bands such as Karnivool. Paranosis is solid proof of their standards.

Musically, the album draws inspiration from the Western world and doesn’t necessarily stray from this comfortable zone. Many times during my listens, the music brought back memories of my childhood heroes. Among their major doom metal influences, Neomantra delves into vintage death metal with surprising twists of psychedelic, sludge, and even progressive elements. In the end, there was no doubt left in me that whatever they do, they do it well.

After almost two weeks since my discovery, I still sense the freshness in the album’s contemporary sound. It’s valid to say the album has flawless production. Technically, it sounds impeccable, but more importantly, capturing such real performances with such spacious, airy feeling made me think that it has a sound that will never get old, just like the classics don’t.

Lastly, I’m also convinced by the capabilities and experience of this collective. While you get to hear them playing the purest forms of vintage doom and death metal, songs like Dualism II and Boltzmann Brain brought back memories from the classic eras of Metallica, Black Sabbath, and even Mastodon. In addition to all these qualities that could make a band great alone, the vocalist, in my opinion, makes them special. Too many times, he commanded my utmost attention with his singing; I must say I’m convinced. Fundamentally, he is a fantastic singer with a death growling style and a characteristic deep voice, who can also sing melodically.

On the other side of the coin, I have a few suggestions to make, and the first one is about the limited musical language. From my perspective as a guitar player, composer, and music enthusiast, my journey through the album didn’t have the excitement that urges you to listen again and again, mainly because of the familiar ideas in a familiar language. I guess it’s the only thing standing in their way of becoming an internationally renowned band.

Secondly, Neomantra has, in my eyes, one of the most characteristic vocalists, yet they don’t seem to know how to fully take advantage of it. I think this is a mistake. I would argue for giving him the leading role in their production without hesitation. He has everything in his DNA to take the band further.

In conclusion, Paranosis has become my most-listened-to album recently, and it’s been a great pleasure. Vintage doom metal with a flawless contemporary sound by an established band, incorporating psychedelic and sludge metal influences, brings back memories of the finest. Thank you for reading.

  • Voodoo Circle Announce New Album “Hail To The King”

Every album has its own history, and this one not only tells of Voodoo Circle and its musicians Alex Beyrodt (guitar), DavidReadman (vocals), Alex Jansen (bass) and Markus Kullmann (drums), but also – indirectly, of course – of Whitesnake, DeepPurple, Rainbow and Led Zeppelin. Without trying to disguise their influences, Voodoo Circle consciously follow in the footsteps of these iconic acts and their great international status. Their latest album ‘Hail To The King’ doesn’t even try to hide the obvious source of inspiration that spawned the twelve tracks on the recording, but presents with pride, bravura and impressive stylistic confidence the brand of timeless hard rock coined by those groups. Beyrodt: “Our aim is to continue in the great tradition of this music and translate it into a contemporary context.” ‘Hail To The King’ will be out on 15 November 2024 on AFM/Soulfood. Three lead singles including videos, ‘Let It Rock’ (23 August 2024), ‘On The Edge’ (4 October 2024) and ‘Lay Down Your Lovin’ (1 November 2024), will be available ahead of the album release.

The history of ‘Hail To The King’ includes an interesting anecdote: Two of the twelve tracks were penned by former Rainbow keyboardist Tony Carey. Beyrodt remembers, looking back almost 25 years: “At the beginning of the 1990s, we were in Tony’s studio to record material for a Sinner album, including the two Carey compositions, ‘All For One’ and ‘Billy’s Song’, which were only released in Japan at the time. I still remember how, in my mid-twenties, I couldn’t believe that I was standing
in a recording studio with a legend such as Carey, watching him play the Hammond organ for us, headbanging away. Both songs have been at the back of my mind ever since, just waiting for the right moment to record them again. And since I also wanted to listen to the Rainbow side of me for ‘Hail To The King’, that perfect moment seemed to have arrived.”

In addition to Whitesnake reminiscences on ‘Sweet Little Sister’, ‘Castles Made Of Glass’ and ‘The Sound Of The Eagles’ (bringing to mind John Sykes), the new Voodoo Circle opus also features a powerful Led Zeppelin-style hit: ‘Black Country’ tells the story of vocalist/lyricist David Readman’s personal experiences as the son of an British miner. If this puts you in mind of ‘Kashmir’, you’re not far off. Beyrodt: “I’m particularly proud of this number, especially as it was great fun experimenting
with different sounds and guitars at the studio.” Talking of which: As always, Beyrodt proves to be an outstandingly versatile guitarist, adding: “Ultimately, each song decides which guitar I play. The days when musicians stood for one specific type of guitar are long gone. Nowadays, it’s all about doing justice to the song and its story.

The first-rate mix courtesy of Achim Köhler, which – like the impressive cover artwork – captures the spirit of this powerful rock disc perfectly, also underlines this claim. Finally, let’s not forget to mention that Voodoo Circle will be going on tour in November 2024, because one thing is obvious: These songs belong on a stage, where hard rock à la Voodoo Circle is truly at home!

  • Wake up The Child (Red Sand, 2024)

By browsing this site’s past reviews you’ll find several tracks by Red Sand, an excellent neo-prog band from Québec, Canada. Their 2024 album titled “Pain’t Box” is another beautiful collection of melodic, hypnotic songs. This “Wake up The Child”, for example, offers everything a prog fan could dream of: a well written theme, inspiring variations, sensitive vocals (Michel Renaud recemtly joined the band and is a valuable addition)  and of course Simon Caron’s dreamy guitar solos.

Red Sand surely know how to paint musical landscapes…

Perry Angelillo’s impeccable drums and Simon’s keyboard atmospheric work wrap up this song with good taste and heartwarming colours. This warm, soft and hearty feeling is the trademark of a band I will ever recommend to my prog fellows.
