  • SUNN O))) announce their "Let There Be Drone (Multiple Gains Stages)" European Tour March 2019 #news #sunn #southernlordrecordings #doommetalfront

    © 2018 Sunn O))) & Ronald Dick

SUNN O)))) present their first European tour since 2016, and the premier tour of their 2019-2020 season. Including their first ever French tour (not including Paris), returning to old haunt Kampnagel in Hamburg, mythical Paradiso in Amsterdam, as well as headlining Elevate festival in Graz, and Divadlo Archa Prague.

Formed in March 1998 SUNN O))) have been challenging the ways we think about music in the twenty years since. A synthesis of diverse: drone, metal, minimalism/maximalism verging on the edge of pure sonic ecstasy, meditation and trance through the power, beauty and colour of sound pressure emanating from their legendary SUNN O))) backline and their earth shaking tectonic compositions of existence, dedicated to the mysteries of life and the cosmos.

SUNN O))) has two core members: Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson, supported by a tribe of collaborators. From 1999’s “The Grimmrobe Demos” to 2018’s “Downtown LA Rehearsal/Rifftape”; from their now classic albums “Black One” (2006), “Monoliths & Dimensions” (2009), “Soused” (2014) & “Kannon” (2015) to their forthcoming to-be-revealed-but-recently-completed two 2019 album epics, founders Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson have forged paths and connections between the worlds of Metal, contemporary art, drone, new music, jazz and minimalism with startling results while remaining true to the eternal principles of volume, density, elasticity of time, blossoming of saturation viable only to the disciples and fetishists of electric guitar, synthesis, multiple gain stages and some of history’s greatest pure valve amplification.

The current concert line-up extends around power trio of Stephen O’Malley (Guitar), Greg Anderson (Guitar), and their valve guru and long time collaborator Tos Nieuwenhuizen (Moog), aside selected special guests. Together they relentlessly pursue their exploration and elaboration of SUNN O)))’s legendary experiments with the physicality of sound in instrumental based live performances with remarkable events at some of their favourite venues, as well as concerts in singular events and spaces such as Italy’s impressive cultural complex Labrinto Della Masone, Germany’s Ruhrtriennale Festival of Arts, Royal Festival Hall & The Barbican in London, Bergen’s Dømkirke and Manchester International Festival being a few emblematic examples.

Rejoin them in their glorious pursuit of the monumental heaviness.

  • MONOLORD sign to Relapse Records – new album coming late 2019 #news #doommetalfront

Relapse is proud to announce the signing of Swedish trio MONOLORD. Formed in Gothenburg in 2013, MONOLORD quickly burst onto the scene releasing three critically-acclaimed full-lengths in a four-year span (Empress Rising, Vænir and Rust) on RidingEasy Records all while touring relentlessly around the globe. MONOLORD is a rare breed: A band both encompassing and transcending genre; a vortex of heavy rock density that consumes all others. The band’s enveloping, syrupy sludge is a state of mind, with guitarist/vocalist Thomas Jäger, drummer Esben Willemsand bassist Mika Häkki create a massive, dynamic sound with ultra-low frequencies serving as its fourth member. MONOLORD’s yet-to-be-titled fourth studio album is expected to be released in late 2019. Stay tuned for more information.

    MONOLORD comment on the signing:

“Stoked about this! Working with people who are driven by the passion for music above anything else has always been key for us. The fine music lovers at Relapse are just the kind of passionate people we want to spread the decibel gospel with and we feel confident that this is gonna be a very sweet ride together.”

MONOLORD are currently on tour throughout Europe with Kadavar. A full list of remaining tour dates is available below.

Angel Vivaldi/Nita Straus guitar collective gig@greasy luck pub, new bedford mass.

Angel Vivaldi layed down a blistering set of  incendiary guitar pyrotechnics. This one man band pulled out all the guitar hero stops and presented an award winning performance. One of the best guitar players I have seen.

    b

Nita Strauss delivered a fiery fury of shredding guitar. This is a shredders master class in pure passion. Her enthusiasm and love for her chosen instrument was readily apparent to all who attended. Her set included an incredible rendition of QUEEN’S “The Show Must Go On”.

Additionally Nita was joined onstage by Mike from EAST COAST ALICE(Alice Cooper tribute band) for an equally incendiary version of “I’m Eighteen.”. Strauss has established herself as one of the world’s premier guitar shredders. With her band of equally talented individuals behind her this should only be the beginning of a long career.

  • LUMBAR to re-release cult album with Argonauta Records – Feat. Aaron Edge, Yob’s Mike Scheidt and Tad Doyle! #news #doommetalfront

“The First and Last Days of Unwelcome” to be re-released on January 11th 2019

It’s been a tragedy for the world of metal, when the remarkable debut album ‘The First and Last Days of Unwelcome’ has been likely proved to be the first and last work of Lumbar. The trio of metal veterans Aaron Edge (Ramprasad / Bible Black Tyrant / Rote Hexe / Iamthethorn / Roareth / Phemüt), Yob’s Mike Scheidt and Tad Doyle (Brothers of the Sonic Cloth / TAD) released their highly acclaimed debut album back in 2013, when the life of band mastermind and multi-instrumentalist Edge has already changed forever.

Lumbar is Edge’s unique collaboration with the two vocalists — Yob’s Mike Scheidt and Tad Doyle. Edge wrote and recorded the music and penned the lyrics, during one long weekend in Seattle, and they added their voices. At this point, Edge has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

“It’s been five years since I wrote and recorded the Lumbar endeavor (in GarageBand, no less) and that time really did pass quickly.” Edge explains. “It has also been six years since my Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis, but that time has gone by much too slowly. The pain has not ceased, nor the frustration, and certainly not the fear. But, there are some positive things to focus on: my meds are now dulling some of the nerve trouble, I’m able to play music regularly again, and two labels share my excitement in the re-release of “The First and Last Days of Unwelcome” as hand-numbered 12″ vinyl on Argonauta Records and hand-numbered cassettes on Anima Recordings.

The five year agreement and music license that was held between myself and Greg Anderson, of Southern Lord, ended this month, releasing the control of the recording back into my hands. I’d like to thank Greg, for his belief in the vision and importance of Lumbar for me. He has always shown true friendship, guidance and support and I won’t forget that.

There is a difference in the first release, back in 2013, and the re-release for January 2019; there was first an urgency and now there is a reminder.
The urgency tore me and my marriage apart, it changed my life forever, the MS diagnosis was (at the time) a bleak future. And, to be honest, I’m not optimistic about how my life with the disease will change and morph as I grow older. But, I’m still here. I made it this far. The urgency of the first release of these seven tracks is now a reminder of change… it is inevitable and uncontrollable. Nature does what nature does, she can not be restrained.

I can not thank enough, then and now, the donation of friendship and talent from both Mike Scheidt and Tad Doyle: there’s only a small handful of people on the planet that I know—that I would feel comfortable having them tell my story—and these guys were at the top of the list. I love you two men.

Thank you to Gero of Argonauta and David of Anima for reminding all of us about creative energy, about storytelling. I do hope you all reading this and listening in appreciate the recording, as heavy and dark in subject matter as it truly is, all over again.”

With seven tracks and a runtime of less than 25 minutes, ‘The First and Last Days of Unwelcome’ is a relentless trek through doom metal featuring Scheidt and Doyle, the screamer and singer, who perfectly round up this epos. On January 11th 2019, Argonauta Records will re-release the cult album on Vinyl by a project that has been truly missed in the heavy music scene.
Coming with a re-designed album artwork, ‘The First and Last Days of Unwelcome’ will be available on CD (for the first time ever) and an exciting color LP edition of 300 hand numbered copies.

    Pre-Orders are now available at:

Says Gero Lucisano, CEO of Argonauta Records: “It’s been a year ago when I’ve been lucky enough to team up with Aaron Edge for his new project Bible Black Tyrant, we released on Argonauta in early 2018. A massive sludge blast I’m totally proud of. With Aaron, a hard working musician, I got the chance to speak about many music endeavours and thanks to his positive and propositive attitude it is a pleasure and a honor to work the official reissue of the legendary LUMBAR album. This is not only an impressive work, emotional and intensive, this beast also features the line-up Mike Scheidt (YOB) and Tad Doyle (of legendary TAD), basically my hero of today’s scene and the hero of my youth. Argonauta Records is stoked to welcome the band and album within its range.”

The track list reads as follows:
    Day One
    Day Two
    Day Three
    Day Four
    Day Five
    Day Six
    Day Seven

AMP - A Heavy Metal Podcast

Yeah, I’m late with another episode, but the music is still brand-new. Life can get busy, however that doesn’t stop the promo inbox from filling up with upcoming and newly-released slabs of new heavy metal, so here’s a healthy serving of some choice picks from the past couple of months.

The post Another Metal Podcast Episode 92 appeared first on Another Metal Review Blog.

  • Cry of the wolf magazine interview with VEONITY

On the verge of releasing what can no doubt be another epic power metal  triumph, we interviewed swedish legends, Veonity. Regarded as one of the brightest hopes for continued metal success around the world, Veonity was voted 2016 power metal band of the year by cry of the wolf magazine. Be sure to pick up their next release, legend of the starborn on sliptrick records on November, 27th.

First congrats on the upcoming release!
Thank you, we are really looking forward to show the world what we have been up to this past year!
Take us through the writing  process for Legends Of The Starborn
To be honest, which I think I have to be here, we started writing this album a few month before “Into The Void” was released  ha ha… Me and Anders who writes the music just have an abundance of power metal flowing through us. We had the concept story pretty clear from the beginning and we also had an idea as to where we would take Veonity musically.  The hard part this time was to choose which songs to be included in the album.
I think the continued storyline from your last release to this one could easily lend itself to a book. Do you have any plans to have a book written?
We actually haven’t thought about it yet but it seems like a fantastic  idea. A futuristic-sci-fi-adventure-fantasy with a viking twist.Tales of bravery, heroism and mankind’s endless struggle for freedom. Who would not wan1t to read that book?
In the modern age do you find creating/writing  music to be easier?
I remember when I was a teenager back in the mid-90’s. I used my tape recorder to record small stuff I played so that I could remember them. The problem was that it was almost impossible to find the stuff you recorded. Fast forwarding and rewind all the time until you find that thing that you recorded 1 month ago  haha. So yeah, I would say computers hade made everything much smoother. Especially now when easily record your demo songs at home so that when entering the studio you have a clear picture on how the song should sound.
How many of the new songs will you plan to perform live?
This only gets harder and harder for every record you make I think. We have so many songs that I know will never be played live. When making a set list you have to balance between old and new stuff. But playing the new song is always the most fun.

Any future live dates you can confirm? Any plans to tour the states?
We are still in the middle of booking stuff so nothing has been made official yet. Of course it would be awesome to play in the states, we don’t have any such plans at the moment but I’m really hoping we will go there in a close future.
Name a band you would like to tour with.
We already played together with lots of bands like Sabaton, powerwolf, Dragonforce and Freedom Call so at the moment it’s kind of hard to say. Maybe it would be cool to go with Gamma Ray next time they toured.
Do you have plans for a dvd or a livestream event?
We haven’t planned anything like that yet but nowadays it is a good way to reach all of your fans.

Did you feel any pressure with the creation of your third release?
Actually we don’t. We are just eagerly awaiting the release 🙂
Why is Sweden so flooded with epic metal bands?
Sweden is a great country for creating musicians, songwriters, producers and bands. It has been this way quite a long time and I believe that our free eduction system in Sweden helps. The government also supports musicians in different ways like lending out instruments, gears and rehersal rooms. Especially when growing up I remember that lot’s of people played in bands a was doing music I different ways. This kind of competition creates so many epic bands.

What has been the most challenging aspect of being a musician?
Sometimes you get tired of hearing “wow, you are so lucky to be able to play music. I wish I could to that”. It’s not about luck or to be honest, it’s not really about gift either. Most musicians have put in some serious hard work to get to where they are. I’m talking tens of thousands of hours. This also means that almost everyone can become a musician. All that it takes are hours (and hours, and hours, and hours) of practice and the will to do it.

Do you believe we will find life in space?
They say seeing is believing. Unfortunately I haven’t seen anything yet. But who knows what’s out there? The universe is too big for us to comprehend.
In your ears what makes the perfect song?
Some told me once that an hour after you have listened to a song you won’t remember the quality of the production, how the drums played, or not even how that super cool shredder guitarist played. What you will remember is the melody sung. A strong melody is what makes a song stand out from the rest.

Anything you would like to say to your fans
Without the fans it wouldn’t be possible for bands to exist. Musicians and bands should never forget that. I’m hoping our fans will keep spreading the word of the new era of majestic  power metal.
