Sydney rock singer Azaria Byrne was one of nine people arrested today in a city-wide police operation that uncovered millions of dollars in cash, drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Best known as the frontman for The Art, Byrne and his fiancee could face life in prison if convicted of charges of distribution and manufacturing. A false door in a Leichhardt recording studio revealed more than 17kgs of cannabis, 25kgs of ketamine, 2.5kgs of cocaine and 3.5kgs of MDMA. Other locations across Sydney, including Byrne’s home, were raided in connection with the bust and wads of cash and other drugs were discovered. One home in Marrickville is alleged to have been used as a drug lab. Over $5.5 million in illicit substances and cash is believed to have been found.
