  • An Interview With Dave Pegg Of Fairport Convention & Formerly Of Jethro Tull

With Fairport Convention, Nick Drake, and Jethro Tull, Dave Pegg, who is affectionately known as “Peggy,” has carved out a tremendous legacy on bass. “I was really cut out to be a bass player,” Pegg tells ClassicRockHistory.com. “My favorite kind of music is singer/songwriter stuff,” he says. “I just love to accompany songs, and I’ve had a great time doing that. And I’ve played with some great people, so I’ve managed to be on stage and play behind them and do some wonderful things.” Be it with Fairport or Jethro Tull, Pegg’s outlook on music has been, and remains, simple:

Album Review: UnityTX – Somewhere, In Between…

    Reviewed by Matthew Williams

I first discovered the metal/hip-hop fusion of UnityTX when they toured the UK in 2025 supporting Thrown. They whipped the Manchester crowd up into quite a storm that evening with frontman Jay Webster portraying all the elements of a Tasmanian Devil on stage. I was therefore extremely keen to get my hands on this new release.

They played new song “Heinous” that evening, to give us a taste of what we could expect when “Somewhere, In Between…” arrived, and it was like an assault on your senses. The Dallas-based band are now ready to get the praise they rightfully deserve, and the album has been inspired by the fact that Webster feels that they “haven’t really grown” and feel frustrated that others get more attention. When you listen to “Paranoia” you can sense the rage has built up and now spilling out here. They are pointing the finger, so you better sit up and listen.

Album Review: UnityTX - Somewhere, In Between…

I’ve always been a fan of the rap/metal combo, as it spits out lyrics with a crushing beat and an electronic edge, whilst delivering full-on energy, and UnityTX are one band who gives you 100% all the time. “Fuck Tha World” is gnarly and aggressive, with a cleaner vocal on the verse, so you get a great contrast. The songs are laced with frustration and discontent, but also the determination to prove people wrong, a cathartic crossroads.

“Lucid” is as heavy as anything you’ll hear in this genre and as Webster says, “we’re trying to evolve both as a band and as people”. The hip hop rhymes flow effortlessly on “Body Roc” with a beat that will get stuck in your head for days whereas “Enjoy Tha Show” is a gritty, evil little track, full of menace with twisted lyrics. They are relentless throughout and have lots to talk about as they express themselves and release a lot of built-up tension.

One thing is clear, this is a high-octane record, with no real let up, as you’ll experience when you hear “Inside Out” and “STFU”. There’s an air of brutality about final song “Crash N Burn” as it combines their raw power with an intensity that few can match. The beat drags you in to their world, before the apocalyptic electronics hit you square in the jaw, giving you the wake up call you need to release that UnityTX are here and not going away anytime soon, whether you like it or not.

  • Listen to The XCERTS’ heart-breaking new single, in your eyes

Following January comeback single do it to myself, The XCERTS have just unveiled their second new track of 2026.

A stunning and completely tear-jerking effort, vocalist Murray Macleod shares that in your eyes is without question the most raw and personal song we’ve ever written. Fundamentally, it’s about loss. The loss of what I deemed to be forever love and the cruelty of cancer.

The closing lines of the song are This isn’t goodbye, this is I’ll love you forever’ which serves as a full-stop but also has an open-ended feel to it. It’s a desperate grieving cry, but while writing the words, I also thought, Well, if this is the last thing we ever create then that’s the message I want to ring out in Jordan [Smith, bass], Tom [Heron, drums] and our fanbase’s ears.’ I’m aware it’s overly sincere, but it’s true, and the truth is all we wanted to convey.

The song finishes with Jordan’s mum blowing a kiss and saying I love you’ which is extremely emotional, but it was important for her to close out this song as it belongs to her.”

  • Listening Now : Giglinger – Silencio (Edit)

Helsinki outfit Giglinger channel the raw spirit of punk and post punk with Silencio, a gritty track that blends sharp-edged guitars with a restless, driving rhythm. Rooted in a proto-punk attitude, the song carries a stripped-down urgency that feels both direct and unpolished in the best way. The band’s energy leans into classic alternative rock influences while maintaining a dark post-punk edge, creating a sound that feels equally nostalgic and immediate.

Silencio stands as a punchy reminder of the enduring power of straightforward, guitar-driven underground rock.

  • Listening Now : Bach Jazz – Prelude X, BWV 855

Swedish trio Bach Jazz continue their fascinating dialogue between classical heritage and modern improvisation with Prelude X, BWV 855. Reimagining Johann Sebastian Bach’s timeless composition through a jazz lens, the piece unfolds with elegant piano phrasing, subtle rhythmic interplay, and warm double bass lines. The trio manages to preserve the essence of Bach’s original structure while introducing a spacious, contemporary atmosphere enriched with delicate percussion and subtle echoes.

The result feels both refined and exploratory—an organic meeting point between baroque precision and modern jazz sensibility.
