These days, we live more isolated than ever in an age of constant digital contact. Desire arrives through screens, romance gets filtered through notifications, and the phone call has become an archaic little terror most people avoid unless someone has died or the pharmacy is confused. Texting gives everyone just enough distance to perform closeness without fully risking it. The moment another person gets close enough to hurt you, the mind starts staging disasters: the wrong word, the sudden boredom, the inevitable abandonment, the private humiliation of wanting more than you meant to reveal. Vulnerability becomes a room with too many mirrors, each one reflecting another way this could fall apart. Leaving someone on read becomes a small act of self-defense, but also a self-inflicted exile: a way to avoid the risk of being hurt by creating the very distance you fear, and leaving you trapped between longing and the terror of being truly seen.

And ACTORS’ latest single Left On Read is about that nasty little modern purgatory where romance goes to rot beneath scuffed-up Gorilla Glass: the phone in your palm, the message bubble glowing like a tiny electric coffin, the brain inventing catastrophes at casino speed. Love used to require a locked diary, a rainstorm, maybe a humiliating phone call when dignity had already left the room. Now all it takes is a screen, a text left unanswered, and the sick theatrical cruelty of three typing dots promising deliverance before vanishing like a bad friend at last call.

The track carries a hard polish and a bruised pulse. Actors Frontman Jason Corbett knows how to make synths feel vintage and doomy; guitar licks cut through the arrangement like a grin in a crowded room: quick, telling, gone before you can decide whether it meant invitation or warning. Lyrically, Left On Read turns insomnia into architecture. The mind keeps rebuilding the same doomed room, rearranging every glance, every pause, every imagined slight, until desire becomes surveillance. The speaker waits for a reply and starts hearing the silence talk back. That unanswered message becomes abandonment, humiliation, and need, all compressed into one cruel little notification. There is a mechanical ache running through the song, the feeling of a person treating their own heart like faulty hardware while still hoping someone might come along and hold the broken machine together.

Written and directed by Max Train, with editing by Train and performances from Dylan Beatch and Jordann Fruin, the video plants this anxiety in a nightclub, which is exactly where such disasters are born. Two people make a connection, and suddenly a whole life starts detonating in the imagination. What could happen, what could fail, what could make you look needy, foolish, exposed. It has the psychic sting of The Dead Zone relocated to the dance floor, where every potential lover arrives with a private weather system of dread. Those three little typing dots become horror cinema in miniature, a suspense sequence with no payoff except more waiting.

Corbett handles the operation himself: writing, producing, mixing, and mastering at Jacknife Sound in Vancouver. The result sits comfortably near The Soft Moon and Cold Cave, sleek enough for the club and anxious enough for the walk home, when every unread message becomes evidence in a trial you are conducting against yourself.

ACTORS have earned their authority the hard way, dragging these bright black songs through the USA, Canada, and Europe, turning clubs into temporary nations of eyeliner, electricity, and elegant damage. Amphifest, Wave-Gotik-Treffen, Cold Waves, Substance, Death Disco, Verboden: the stamps are there, but so are all the unnamed rooms where a band becomes real. “Left On Read” understands that heartbreak no longer needs a grand goodbye. Sometimes it arrives as nothing at all.

Flipping through the channels not sure which side I’m on

Prada suit repeating, “Folks, please stay calm.”

But the piranhas swimming under him are jumping pretty damn high

He’s on the ladder to a chopper going somewhere safe and dry 

Psychic Lines, the long-running project of Brooklyn songwriter Philip Jacob, has the sort of backstory that sounds less like a press bio than a trail of weird little breadcrumbs left across the American underground. Cincinnati birth, Louisville adolescence, nineties sampling experiments, four-track guitar awakenings, Brooklyn arrival in 2003, Zachary Cale sideman duties, Vague Plot, and…bless the greasy little gods of rock trivia – a Captain Beefheart tribute band called Admiral Porkbrain. Somewhere in that zigzag sits a songwriter with one eye on Leonard Cohen, another on Stephin Merritt, and a third, possibly borrowed from a gas-station alien, watching the  Grand Old Party eat itself on basic cable.

On Horror Comedy, Jacob looks at the news and wonders whether he has stumbled into some cheapo B-movie with better lighting and worse morals. As David Lynch once said, “What a great time to be alive if you love the theater of the absurd.” That line hangs over the song like a busted exit sign. The lyrics turn societal collapse into a carnival mirror: politicians with monster-movie faces, reassurance from a Prada-suited mouthpiece, panic below deck while the important people scramble toward the helicopter.

Musically, Psychic Lines builds Horror Comedy out of doctored drum samples, throbbing bass, baritone vocals, frantic guitar, and a saxophone that barges in like a drunk uncle at a zoning meeting. Some of the track’s electronic bones were made with early 90s 8-bit software, giving the whole affair a cheap-machine charm, as if a Game Boy had been locked in a bunker with cable news and several bad ideas. Jacob’s voice keeps its cool while the room starts sprouting teeth, which is exactly the right move. Panic is always funnier when delivered by someone who sounds like he has already read the autopsy.

The animated video by BPMT Studios pushes the song’s paranoia into a rotten fruit cartoon universe: psychedelic, creepy, and full of early-70s funk-animation freakery. Jacob, in a Hawaiian shirt, channel-surfs his way into a They Live-style revelation, catching glimpses of politics, entertainment, and the military-industrial complex grinning back from the screen like old reptiles with fresh veneers. Are we run by Reptilians? Are we living in a nightmare? Are we on the wrong timeline? Maybe, maybe, and buddy, check the receipt. Horror Comedy laughs with its teeth clenched, the sort of song that understands doom plays better when the sax shows up and the cartoon blood is just a little too red.

A Film Disguised as an Album

Etheric Realms of the Night is IATT’s fourth full-length studio album, but it is structured as a cohesive album-length film. Each track functions as a chapter in a larger narrative exploring dreams, sleep, the subconscious, and the fragile threshold between the waking world and what lies beyond the veil.
“Walk Amongst” represents a critical turning point in that story. It is the moment where everything begins to converge.
The Collapse of Reality

As described in the film narrative, the chapter follows the heroine returning to what appears to be normal life, only to discover that reality is no longer stable. Familiar surroundings feel hollow, disconnected, and wrong.
The track draws heavily on the concept of astral projection, the idea of leaving the physical body to move through the dream realm, and the consequences of going too far into sleep itself.
Sonically and visually, “Walk Amongst” carries a sense of inevitability. It reveals that the boundary between worlds has already been crossed, and what once felt like movement between realms is now something far more controlled and inescapable.
Cinematic Metal With No Safe Edge

Produced as part of a full narrative film by Posie Productions and Vital Sign Media, “Walk Amongst” pushes the story toward its final act using atmosphere, pacing, and restraint rather than constant aggression.
