  • Anneke van Giersbergen Premieres “Red Sky”: A Full-Band Homage to the 80s and 90s Sound

Renowned vocalist and songwriter Anneke van Giersbergen marks her return with the release of her new single, “Red Sky,” which debuted on February 20. This track serves as the centerpiece for La Mort, the second EP in her ambitious conceptual triptych La Vie, La Mort, L’Amour, set to be released on March 27, 2026.

Inspired by the rich production styles of the 1980s and 1990s, Van Giersbergen recorded this material alongside a full eight-piece band. The goal was to capture the organic energy and “muscle” of a complete band performing live, moving away from minimalist arrangements to embrace a sound with depth, character, and analog nostalgia.

The announcement of this new material comes during a period of intense activity for the artist. While redefining her current sound, Anneke continues to honor her history by touring with her former band, The Gathering.

As a key figure and pioneer of Gothic Metal and Alternative Rock, her reunion with the band on stage allows fans to relive the mold-breaking sound of the 90s, while simultaneously discovering her most mature and personal side through this new musical triptych.

Following the release of the first installment (La Vie) and the recent debut of “Red Sky,” the cycle will culminate in late 2026.

  • Track Premiere: Malauriu – ‘Satanic Witch’

Here at Decibel Magazine, we support women’s rights to be evil, which is why we love the new Malauriu single, “Satanic Witch.” A cut from the Italian black metal group’s third album, The Third Nail, “Satanic Witch” is representative of Malauriu’s shift toward punk-influenced black metal, whereas much of their previous output fit more neatly into traditional or experimental black metal.

“The Third Nail” is the result of over ten years of total devotion to black metal, a musical regression back to the raw roots of the genre, flowing into the raw energy of punk,” Malauriu tell Decibel. “Twisted, grotesque visions are turned into music and lyrics, born from life on an isolated island where tolling death bells, solemn processions, and haunting masses mark the passage of time.

“Talking about punk-fueled black metal, the rotten smell of stale vomit and piss, the taste of cheap booze and heavy smoke, are some of the sensorial aspects many of us recall when talking about epic nights out. Sex, drugs and satanic music are part of many black metal fanatics’ background (before aging took its toll for some). After many experiences, we don’t necessarily glorify the lifestyle but we have more than one shameless tale to tell. Listening to the drums intro, and the riffing straight after it, one of those night time stories came about. For gurgling screaming accustomed ears it won’t be difficult understanding the words.”

If you dig what you hear, you can hear the other released single from The Third Nail via Bandcamp. The album is out April 3 on Adirondack Black Mass.
