  • Video/Track Premiere: Iatt – “Walk Amongst”

It feels like maybe we should have titled this a “short film premiere,” since proggy Philly black metallers Iatt‘s new track, “Walk Amongst,” is accompanied by a high production video that is actually part of a film (featuring all seven songs from their upcoming album, Etheric Realms of the Night) set for release on July 24. “Walk Amongst” is actually the sixth chapter of seven in the film and both musically and visually it packs a lot into just under eight minutes. These dudes—Jay Briscoe (bass/vocals), Joe Cantamessa (lead guitar), Alec Pezzano (rhythm guitar/orchestral arrangements), Paul Cole (percussion)—are definitely stretching the boundaries of extreme metal with their complex arrangements, use of unorthodox instrumentation (the sax is featured prominently here) and just general musical ambition. On “Walk Amongst,” it seems as if every note, transition and movement was thoughtfully composed to create one impressive piece.

Though the film doesn’t drop until July, Etheric is set for release on CD, vinyl and digitally via Black Lion Records on May 8. Place your preorder here.

The band offered us this explanation of how “Walk Amongst” fits into the album and film as a whole:

“’Walk Amongst’ is the rising crescendo of Etheric Realms of the Night; the point where everything finally reaches the peak and gives way. It’s where the line between the waking world and the dream realm shatters, and our protagonist is forced to uncover and face her fate.

At this stage in the story, it’s no longer about exploring; it’s about becoming and the finality of it all. The themes of astral projection and the unknown take on a more real, irreversible weight in this chapter of the film.

We wanted the music to really reflect that shift — something expansive and overwhelming, but still grounded and very focused on the emotional weight. Having Jørgen Munkeby (Emperor, Ihsahn, Shining,) return on sax added a whole other layer to that. It brings this chaotic, almost transcendent energy that really captures the moment.

Narratively, this is the final turning point before everything falls into place in the full film; the ‘nail in the coffin’ so to speak.”

  • Album Review: Antirope-Bring Me to Zero

    Words by Anselm Anderson

Release Date: May 1st, 2026                                                Label: Eclipse Records

Munich-based alternative metal band Antirope is set to drop their second album, “Bring Me to Zero,” next month through Eclipse Records The quartet delivers a melancholic and unsettling set of tracks, recorded live at Patrick Fleischer‘s home studio, LungFull Studios. The music feels brooding yet comforting, with crushing riffs merging into monotonous vocals, sludge-like instrumentals, and lyrics brimming with emotion. There is obvious influences by Black Sabbath, A Perfect Circle and Tool, which is conveyed through each outpouring of emotion throughout this release.

Formed in Munich, Germany in 2015,  Antirope  of Slaven Stokic on vocals and guitar, Patrick Fleischer on guitar and backing vocals, Julie Fleischer on bass, and Jürgen “BamBam” Wiehler on drums (ex-Bonfire, ex-Megaherz).They were founded by Slaven and Patrick, before the latter’s sister joined on bass. Drummer “Bam Bam” later entered the fold in 2024 to complete the current lineup. This album has been described as one of “Their most intense” releases, perfectly captured in the opening tracks “Monolith” and “Unholy”. Slaven’s haunting lyrics about mental health and strained relationships seem all to real, set against slow, thunderous grooves that give this album a claustrophobic atmosphere.

The mood stays downbeat and gloomy on tracks like “Zero” and “Afterglow,” with the tempo dragged by the buzz of 90s grunge-style guitar riffs as Slaven reflects on a social decline, caught in a personal struggle with depression and self-reflection. There are some heavier tracks with sludge-like rhythms on “Like a Lie” and “Dry Your Eyes,” but the album seems to struggle to build any real momentum. There are moments on “Intervention” that feel dark and atmospheric, with haunting grooves that build and weave around the vocals like a chilling tale of the macabre.

The album wraps up with a gothic take on Cream’s “Sunshine of your Love”, and the melodic and emotionally charged “Aurora” and “Beyond”.

Overall, Antirope delivers a deeply personal tale of human struggle with the mind and soul, told through powerful and emotive music. The album feels like a throwback to the roots of 90’s grunge, certain to please fans of that era.

“Beyond Zero” will be released on May First via Eclipse Records on all major streaming platforms
