  • Advent Horizon share new single “Faith’s Window” from forthcoming new album Falling Together

US-based progressive rock group Advent Horizon recently declared its return with a new studio album titled Falling Together. The follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2023 release A Cell to Call Home is an album about holding your beliefs under a microscope, and determining whether they are truly yours, or whether they were planted there by others when you were young and impressionable.

The band is now releasing the second single from the album.
You can listen to “Faith’s Window’ here:

Vocalist/Guitarist/Songwriter Rylee McDonald on the track: “‘Faith’s Window’ is my personal favorite track from our new album. It’s one of those that “wrote itself” – I think all of the parts were written within an hour, and came together quickly and seamlessly. The chorus is one of the catchiest things I’ve ever written, and I feel like, in general, the song does a good job of blending the classic “Advent Horizon sound” with something more modern and heavy. In the past, I’ve been very hesitant to include any screaming in our music, but this song demanded more intensity in the middle section. When we tried adding scratch vocal screams in the demo, it was immediately apparent that this was the right call. I’m particularly proud of the way we blended the screams and the clean vocals at the end of the bridge section. I also really love the way that Kristen takes over the last chorus, her vocals at the end are so magical and signature.”

Work on the new album traces back further than it might appear. Much of the material began taking shape during the sessions for A Cell To Call Home, when early ideas — including the expansive “In a Lone and Dreary World” — proved too large in scope to fit that record. Rather than force it into the previous release, the band set those songs aside and began shaping a follow-up built around the same musical DNA. By the time A Cell To Call Home arrived, roughly a third of the next album already existed, and the following year was spent refining and expanding it into a complete statement. The goal became clear: distill what makes the band distinct into something heavier, tighter, and more representative of their identity.

The writing ultimately unfolded in two distinct periods. Half of the material dates from 2018–2021, while the remainder was composed during the summer of 2024, when Rylee McDonald and drummer Mike Lofgreen spent Mondays working beside a remote mountain lake in northern Utah. The quiet surroundings and isolation shaped the tone of the newer material, with several key tracks emerging directly from those sessions.

Recording followed between January and May 2025 at Cold House Studios in Provo, Utah, co-produced by the band alongside engineer and mixer Zach Boorman. The album was mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Haken, Leprous, BTBAM) and its visual presentation was completed with artwork by Travis Smith (Opeth, Devin Townsend, Lamb of God, Mastadon), helping bring the project’s sound and atmosphere fully into focus.

Falling Together will be released on May 15th, 2026 and is available for pre-order now.

  • IS A HIM REUNION ON THE HORIZON? Ville Valo ‘Would Love’ to Play with the Lads Again

For nearly a decade, the “Heartagram” has been in a state of digital hibernation. Since HIM played their final notes at the Tavastia in Helsinki on New Year’s Eve 2017, fans have wondered if the goth-metal pioneers would ever return. Now, in an exclusive retrospective with Metal Hammer, frontman Ville Valo is finally addressing the “corpse” he buried years ago—and he isn’t ruling out a resurrection.

The Bittersweet End: Why HIM Called It Quits

Reflecting on the 2017 split, Valo notes that the band didn’t end in a flurry of separate limos or legal battles. Instead, the band simply outgrew the creative container they had inhabited since 1991.

“The bittersweet thing about it was that we were still good friends, we’d just grown apart,” Valo tells Hammer. “I miss those fellows. They are my brothers. But there’s also beauty in the fact we didn’t strangle each other at the end… I felt it was the right way to bury the corpse.”

Despite the finality of that “burial,” Valo admitted that the emotional weight of the band remains: “HIM was and is my life. It was very hard to let go of that.”

    Could the Heartagram Return?

While Valo hasn’t been in constant contact with his former bandmates, the door for a reunion appears to be cracked open—even if only slightly.

“I would love to play with the lads again someday,” Valo confessed. While there are currently no concrete plans for a 2026 or 2027 comeback, the mere admission that he “misses those fellows” is enough to ignite the rumor mill for a band that has certified Platinum across five consecutive albums, from Greatest Hits Vol. 666 to the international breakthrough Dark Light.

    TL;DR: The Ville Valo Update

    • The Reunion: Valo “would love” to play with the original HIM lineup again someday.
    • The Status: Members remain friends; no “bad blood” led to the 2017 split.
    • The Solo Project: The VV (Neon Noir) era is officially over following the May 2024 Royal Albert Hall show.
    • New Music: Valo is currently writing and searching for an “Aha!” moment for his next dark romantic project.

Information Gain: What’s Next for Ville Valo?

With the VV project officially laid to rest as of May 2024, Valo is currently in a state of creative metamorphosis. He revealed that he is already writing new music, though he is still searching for the “new perspective” required to follow up on the success of Neon Noir.

Fans expecting a radical departure may be disappointed—or relieved. Valo indicates that the new material will retain the “dark romantic vibe” that defined HIM and VV, but he is looking for a new angle to keep the fire alive. “I’ve tried to come up with some new ideas, but they’re not there yet,” he admitted.

The HIM Legacy: A Mainstream Goth Force

As one of Finland’s most successful exports, HIM’s influence on the 2000s rock landscape cannot be overstated. From topping charts with Razorblade Romance to becoming a mainstay in the US, Germany, and Austria, the band created a sub-genre of “Love Metal” that remains unmatched. Whether a reunion happens in 2028 to coincide with a major anniversary or stays a “someday” dream, Valo’s current headspace suggests the story of the Heartagram isn’t quite finished.
