  • Darkest Hour Re-Sign with MNRK Heavy, Shares Details About Their New Record

    Metalcore outfit Darkest Hour made a big announcement earlier today, as they announced that they’ve re-signed with MNRK Heavy and have teamed up with producer Mark Lewis for the eventual recording of their 11th studio record next month.

    Details about the band’s moves were made public in a social media post, in which the band revealed that they’ll be joining Lewis in his Nashville, Tennessee studio sometime in May. Lewis’ involvement is kind of a big deal, since he’s worked with some pretty big names in the metal business, including Whitechapel, The Black Dahlia Murder, and Cannibal Corpse.

    Speaking of the band’s choice of producer this time around, guitarist Mike Schleibaum said he and the rest of the crew were excited to have him at the helm of their next album.

    “The idea of working with Mark is extremely exciting.

    “He’s been a part of many very successful and legendary metal records, and having his input and vision on all this is going to be important to making this very special album, unique, classic, and perfect!”

    Similarly, Lewis shared his enthusiasm for the pairing, stating in a press release that this was going to excite fans.

    “I’m extremely stoked to finally get in the studio with my old friends in Darkest Hour. Something that has been talked about for ages is happening at the right time. This album will crush!”

    Though we know a new album is coming, that’s about all we know. There’s no album title, no release date, hell — there’s no lead single to get hype brewing.

    Still, Schleibaum gave fans a little taste of what’s to come, sharing where the band’s head is at for the new material.

    “I’m in love with how this record is so thrashy and aggressive, while still maintaining that core melody we are so known for. It’s like the best combination of all the Darkest Hour albums into one, and it’s such a joy to watch all of it come together.

    “The chemistry of the band is on fire right now, with everyone bringing something unique and special to the table. The guitar solos are next level; the band’s drumming & rhythm section is just locked in insanely tight, and I’m really excited about where John took everything lyrically this time. Truly something special and magic in these songs.”

    As for their resigning with MNRK Heavy, the label’s Director A&R Kyle Frey said the label was over the moon with Darkest Hour’s signing:

    “We are ecstatic to deepen our relationship with Darkest Hour and continue representing such an influential band on the MNRK roster.

    “Their legacy is built on boundary-pushing consistency and resilience, and after 30 years together, they continue to fan the flames of inspiration in this new era, poised to deliver a landmark career highlight album.”

    A door that shouldn’t be locked. A hallway that seems to stretch into infinity. In the best horror stories, the building is never just a setting—it’s a living, breathing antagonist.

    When we think of the “Gothic,” we often picture soaring spires, ornate gargoyles, and shadows that seem to cling to the walls. But these structures endure in our cultural imagination for a reason: Gothic architecture makes us feel small, watched, and perpetually uneasy.

    At Edgar Allan Poets, we believe that music—much like architecture—is about building a space. We aim to construct sonic cathedrals that feel just as imposing and intricate as the Victorian manors that inspired the genre (source).

    The Verticality of Dread

    Gothic design relies on verticality. By drawing the eye upward, these structures force us to confront the height of ceilings and the depth of shadows. In film, this is used to isolate characters—to make them feel like they are being observed from above.

    This “vertical pressure” is exactly what we try to replicate in our Noir Rock arrangements. We use layered soundscapes to create height, depth, and a sense of claustrophobia that pushes the listener into the center of the dark.

    The “Liminal” Victorian

    Why does a Victorian-era manor feel so inherently “haunted”? It’s because these homes are designed with complexity. They are full of nooks, hidden staircases, and rooms that serve no obvious purpose. These “liminal spaces” allow our imaginations to run wild.

    If you want to capture this aesthetic in your own home or creative projects, look for the “imperfection.” The peeling wallpaper, the dust in the light beams, the crooked frame—this is where the character of the house truly lives.

    Bringing the Gothic Home

    You don’t need a cathedral to embrace the Gothic aesthetic. It’s about how you use light and texture. Incorporate velvet, dark wood, and iron accents to transform any room into a sanctuary for the dark soul.
