  • Sepultura Perform “The Place” for the First Time in Perth: Watch

    sepultura_band26

Apparently, Sepultura have a thing for alliteration, because they hit us with a lil bit of it this past Friday (March 20), during the kick-off show for their Australian tour. The decided Perth was the perfect place for, well, “The Place” (there’s that alliteration!) since the debuted the track live on stage that night at the Metro city venue. Seemed like fans loved it, as you can see from fan-filmed footage (alliteration, again) like the clip below.

“The Place” is taken off the band’s upcoming new release The Cloud Of Unknowing EP, which comes out April 24 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Sepultura’s Perth setlist was as follows, according to good ol’ Setlist.fm:

    1. Beneath The Remains
    2. Inner Self
    3. Desperate Cry
    4. The Place (live debut)
    5. Kairos
    6. Propaganda
    7. Attitude
    8. Means To An End
    9. Choke
    10. Phantom Self
    11. Kaiowas
    12. Guardians Of Earth
    13. Escape To The Void
    14. Dead Embryonic Cells
    15. Agony Of Defeat
    16. Orgasmatron (MOTÖRHEAD cover)
    17. Troops Of Doom
    18. Territory
    19. Refuse/Resist
    20. Arise
    21. Drum Solo
    22. Ratamahatta
    23. Roots Bloody Roots

Sepultura’s vocalist Derrick Green previously said this about “The Place”:

“This song deals with immigrants who have come to a place seeking refuge and start a new life. Once assimilated into a false sense of security and relentless propaganda, they began to act out against what they hate about themselves. The transition begins to escape from the self-hatred and the lashing out against people who believed in the same ideas. I feel the lyrics truly follow the transitions of the song. Starting with disappointment and arriving at anger.”

As someone who often starts with disappointment and later arrives at anger, this definitely resonated.

  • Lee Dorsey’s British tour in March 1967

Having brought Lee Dorsey over to Britain for three tours during 1966, promoter Roy Tempest set up another British tour in spring 1967.

For this tour, it appears that London-based Scottish band, The Scots of St James may have backed Lee Dorsey on all dates, although we’d be interested in anyone who can provide more information. I’ve listed below the gigs where they definitely did provide backing.

Stuart Francis, the drummer with The Scots of St James, confirms they backed Lee Dorsey on a tour in March 1967.

The group’s personnel had changed since the previous tour in October 1966 (during which they had played a few gigs with Dorsey) and now comprised: Jimmy Oakley (vocals); Norrie MacLean (lead guitar); Graham Maitland (keyboards); Alan Gorrie (bass/vocals); and Stuart Francis (drums)

    These tour dates are incomplete

    Tour dates:

4 March 1967 – Faculty of Technology Union, Manchester with The Meads (Manchester Evening News & Chronicle)

4 March 1967 – Twisted Wheel, Manchester (Manchester Evening News & Chronicle)

5 March 1967 – Saville Theatre, Shaftsbury Avenue, central London with The Move (Melody Maker)

6 March 1967 – Golden Torch, Tunstall, Staffordshire with Marmalade and Barmby Barry (Evening Sentinel) Backed by The Scots of St James

    8 March 1967 – Blue Moon, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire (https://garagehangover.com/blue-moon-cheltenham-gigs-july-1965-may-1967/)

  • NO GUEST. NO FILTER. JUST PURE SONIC DAMAGE. – @thebeast

NO GUEST. NO FILTER. JUST PURE SONIC DAMAGE.

Sometimes you don’t need interviews. You don’t need small talk. You don’t need anything polished or pretty.
Sometimes you just need riffs. Volume. And a full-on sonic beating.
That’s exactly what went down on this latest episode of Metal Devastation Radio.
After getting knocked flat on my ass all week by the lovely little plague known as the rhinovirus, I wasn’t about to line up a guest and risk crashing mid-show. So instead of canceling or dialing it back, I did what any sane metalhead would do, cranked it up and let the music do the talking.
No guest. No filter. Just straight-up heavy metal chaos.
This episode kicks off with the rising underground crushers who tore it up in the Battle of the Bands, bands that are hungry, dangerous, and ready to rip their way out of the scene. From there, it spirals into a relentless mix of legends, underground filth, and brand new tracks that hit like a brick to the teeth.
You’ve got icons like Ozzy Osbourne and Darkthrone holding down the old guard, while bands like Jungle Rot and Six Feet Under keep things nasty and grounded in pure death metal tradition.
Then there’s the new blood and underground war machine bringing the heat with zero compromise. No trends. No gimmicks. Just riffs, aggression, and attitude the way it’s supposed to be.
If you’ve been feeling burned out on overproduced, overhyped nonsense, this episode is your reset button.

Chappell Roan, whose attitude towards paparazzi, photographers, and audacious fans has long been a point of contention, was in São Paolo this weekend for Lollapalooza Brazil. But her Saturday night headlining set was marred by a bit of controversy after Brazilian footballer Jorginho alleged Roan’s security team mistreated his 11-year-old daughter.
