  • Report: Bucharest Deathfest 2026

Bucharest Deathfest kicked off on March 7th, in Quantic club, with Walk Alone, which unfortunately I missed to see, but the show went on with the second band, Vomit Erection, and as the their name suggest, you can already think the genre and the performance that was full of energy, and along with the Bulgarians, the crowd was slowly gathering. Next on, Romania’s Putred, a band that impressed me nicely. The Romanians delivered an amazing, brutal, and classic death metal set, fitting perfectly on the festival’s bill, with the must-be moshpit for extra madness and energy. Big kudos to Putred, a must-see band if you have the occasion. These guys are worth it.

The madness continued with Incineration from Greece, the atmosphere was already on fire, the unfailing moshpit, and crowd surfing too. I gotta mention how responsive and active the crowd was, and with Incineration was just half of the festival going. Afterwards, both Guts and Toxaemia delivered ace performances, with a true death metal sound, and like previous bands that hit the stage, Guts and Toxaemia totally captivated the crowd in full force, killing it to the maximum. More, Toxaemia played a song dedicated to and in the memory of late Entombed’s Lars Petrov.

Three more bands on board, and before saying more about the next performances, I want to mention the presence of a younger generation in large numbers, which makes me say there’s still hope for the scene and these kids today, listening to great metal music, and attending such events. Again, there’s still hope! Let’s continue, not tired yet, with Vulvectomy next on stage, well, here was like another chapter of the evening- Toxaemia’s vocalist, Dennis, joined the Italians on stage to film with his phone, then he placed himself right in the middle of the moshpit. Just imagine how this was, and Vulvectomy was top of the top. I think they could be enough to end this edition of Bucharest Deathfest, and moreover, they were present not just on stage, but before and after at the merch stand with the fans. Vulvectomy was a real madness. This band is also a must-see, for sure.

General Surgery, so to speak, performed a ”surgery” and cut out the stage with lots of energy, still keeping the crowd hooked, and prepared it for the last, and not least band of the evening. BDF closed with some old-school Austrian death metal, Disharmonic Orchestra, the connoisseurs of this band felt, I believe, a little nostalgic too. Why do I say this? The other night, on March 6th, at the Encore club, there was a warm-up gig with Gore Thrower, and Rotheads, and there, one guy came with an old Disharmonic Orchestra cassette tape, and showed it to the band, as they were present at the warm-up gig too. They were like, ” Wow”! The Austrians nailed it till the end, bluntly, and that’s how you call it a perfect evening.

This was the third edition of Bucharest Deathfest that I attended, and this one seemed to be, so far, the best, and the strongest, crowd-wise speaking too. Good news as well, in 2027, this festival will have two days of madness, so stay tuned and check the announcements for next year. As always, Coro, the festival host, made it a great event, with killer bands and great atmosphere. Everyone was satisfied. That’s all I got to say, folks!
