  • QUEENSRŸCHE’s MICHAEL WILTON & TODD LATORRE Talk Progress & Musical Direction Of New Album: “We’re Pushing The Envelope, Keeping The Melodic, Progressive & Heavy Metal Elements”

Queensrÿche vocalist Todd La Torre and guitarist Michael Wilton sat down with SiriusXM’s “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk” on April 16 to give fans a progress report on the band’s next studio album, the follow-up to 2022’s Digital Noise Alliance.

La Torre laid out where things stand (transcribed by Blabbermouth): “There’s a ton of songs that I have to write lyrics and melodies for, which I’ve been doing some of that at home, tracking ideas, showing the guys some stuff. So we’ve got songs in demo form. Really good stuff, really exciting stuff that I’m looking forward to digging in when we get home. But, yeah, [we’re] just working on a new record.”

He went on to address the challenge of writing while keeping a full touring schedule: “You know how it goes — [we’re doing lots of] fly dates [in between working on new music]. The days when you could take a year off and just focus on an album, those don’t exist anymore. So you’re trying to write in these little pockets of time and then have a home life and decompress your ears and chill out for a little bit. I can’t believe we’re already this far into the year. But, yeah, [we’re] just working on a new record. [We have] lots of fly dates [scheduled for later this year] and a European tour.”

Wilton backed that up, pointing to the relentless live calendar as the main obstacle: “We are so busy. And Todd said it right. It’s, like, every week you’ve got a show, you’ve got a show. You don’t have the time off — especially for Todd. In the ’80s and early ’90s and stuff, you had breaks of time where the vocalists could rest his voice. And it’s hard because hard rock bands, metal bands, whatever, these days, and the situation with the media and everything, you have to tour to stay alive… And so that being said, you’re always touring. We’re trying to write a record.”

“Plus, you have to coordinate with who’s recording the record, because [the producer is] busy, because all the other bands are in the same situation as we are. They’re touring and taking a week, 10 days off, and recording and then going back out on the road. So it’s a bit challenging. But this year we’re not doing any major USA ground tours. So we’re really concentrating on the record and then going to Europe.”

The band is once again working with producer Chris “Zeuss” Harris, who handled Condition Hüman (2015), The Verdict (2019), and Digital Noise Alliance. Wilton confirmed this back in January in a conversation with Mark Strigl.

On the musical direction of the new material, Wilton had this to say: “Well, we’re pushing the envelope. We don’t get a lot of standard radio play, so we’re just going for it. We’re keeping the progressive element, the melodic element, the heavy metal element. So it’s gonna be a killer album. But we’re trying to make it a little bit different than the previous one. So, fingers crossed.”

As for where they are in the process, Wilton said the band is somewhere between pre-production and actual recording: “Well, it’s a bit of both. We’re at a point where we know our sounds, so if it’s kept in the arrangement of the song, then you’re halfway there. But yeah, Queensrÿche likes to come up with, in the writing process at least, 15 to 20 songs. So that’s kind of where we are right now. We’re probably on the 13th idea right now. So we’re kicking ass.”

Wilton also spoke about the collaborative dynamic with fellow guitarist Mike Stone: “We’re both in the room with Zeuss, our producer. And if I have a song, I play my idea. We document it, get it recorded, and then I go, ‘Mike, it needs another part on top,’ and he comes up with something, and it complements, and then we just work together and just build the song. It’s great because you can bounce ideas off each other, and it’s not just one person saying, ‘It’s my way or the highway.’ It’s about getting the vibe and getting the right flavors of the music, and I’ll tell you what: Mike Stone does a great job. He can understand what I’m playing, and he knows that what we call Rÿche-ian sound.”

  • DEVILDRIVER Announce New Album “Strike and Kill”, Stream Lead Single “Dig Your Own Grave”

After numerous world tours, 10 full-length albums, and globally recognized acclaim, unstoppable groove metal legends Devildriver remain full speed ahead in their second decade of decimation. Today, the band announces their explosive eleventh full-length, Strike and Kill, out July 10 via Napalm Records.

With the all-star lineup of frontman and mastermind Dez Fafara, virtuoso guitar duo of Alex Lee and Gabe Mangold, eruptive drummer Davier Ortega Perez, and the return of founding bass legend Jon Miller, Strike and Kill sees Devildriver return to their carnivorous origin, reigniting the incendiary sound that founded their legacy, a must-listen for all fans of the genre.

Dez Fafara on Strike and Kill: “My headspace hasn’t changed, I have not become complacent or soft in my view of the world or in my music. Metal is our outlet as listeners and writers, so on this record, we focused on ‘getting it all out’ lyrically and backing those lyrics with savage, relentless music that fuels the heavy California groove like no other. Devildriver has never sounded like any other band; we do our own thing in our own way, and I’m most proud of that. I’m so proud of these musicians, this music, and the vibe around this record. DevilDriver sounds like no one else out there right now, we are here to Strike and Kill!”

Alongside today’s announcement, they unleash the fierce album opener upon the masses. Debuting yesterday on SXM’s Liquid Metal, “Dig Your Own Grave” is a vitriolic onslaught of machine gun riffs and uncompromising aggression, lyrically lambasting fools responsible for their own undesirable fates. Full of piss and vinegar, this is Devildriver at maximum ferocity, giving listeners just a taste of the unspeakable carnage waiting within Strike and Kill.

About the track, Fafara states: “‘Dig Your Own Grave’ is about how one wrong decision, one wrong move can see your whole world turned upside down, effectively ‘digging’ your own grave… It’s that simple. It can also refer to how your decisions can fuck someone else. This is why there’s the line ‘Six feet ain’t deep enough for you,’ because only a deep, deep hole is fitting for what you’ve done or tried to do to others. Be careful when you choose to make decisions at midnight.”

  • CREED Announces 2027 Summer Of ’99 & Beyond Cruise, Featuring BREAKING BENJAMIN, SEVENDUST, HOOBASTANK & More

The Summer Of ’99 & Beyond Cruise is returning in 2027, and Scott Stapp and company have put together their most stacked lineup yet for what will be the fifth sailing of the fan-favourite rock event at sea.

In partnership with Sixthman, the leader in festivals and music cruises for more than two decades, and set for April 17–21, 2027, the cruise departs from Miami aboard the Norwegian Joy, bound for Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas — and this time, very special guests Breaking Benjamin will join Creed at the top of a bill that reads like a greatest-hits playlist of late-’90s and early-2000s hard rock.

Sevendust, Hoobastank, Our Lady Peace, Hinder, Fuel, Drowning Pool, Fastball, Sponge, The Flys, and Ashes Of Billy round out the announcement, with more names still to come. Zach Myers of Shinedown will also appear, while Eddie Trunk and DJ Rock Feed return as hosts.

CreedScott Stapp, Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall, and Scott Phillips — will headline with two pool deck sets. Given that all four previous editions sold out completely, anyone with even a passing interest in nabbing a cabin should move fast.

Alumni pre-sales open April 30–May 1 and May 4–5. First-round presale signups close May 4 at 11:59 p.m. ET, with final-round signups wrapping May 11. Public on-sale begins May 13 at 2:00 p.m. ET at summerof99cruise.com. A $100 saving is available during the presale window, with prices rising on May 13.

The first 850 cabins booked also get a choice of perks: an exclusive 30-minute Creed acoustic set, a photo with the band, or a 30-minute Q&A with Breaking Benjamin — subject to availability.

Beyond the onboard experience, cruisers will have the chance to enjoy a shore excursion to Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas, an idyllic private island paradise known for its white sand beaches and clear blue waters. Guests who purchase a beverage package will be able to use it for all-inclusive drinks on Great Stirrup Cay. Please note: Shore excursions will not be available until 4-6 weeks before sailing. Cruisers will be able to book an excursion upon receipt of their reservation number.

Creed‘s post-reunion momentum has been impossible to ignore. Since officially reforming in July 2023, the band logged more than 60 dates in 2024, another 30 in 2025, and headlined their own two-day land festival — all while pulling record crowds. Their catalogue remains extraordinary on paper: Human Clay (1999) is RIAA diamond-certified with over 11 million U.S. sales, placing them in company with Van Halen, Guns N’ Roses, and Metallica. Weathered (2001) debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. A reunion that hasn’t been about nostalgia, but more about a genuine return to form.

The cruise format suits them perfectly. It gives the band room to breathe, and gives fans a weekend-long immersive experience that a standard arena show simply can’t replicate.

  • IRON MAIDEN Won’t Attend Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony: “The Fans Always Come First And The Shows Will Go On”

Iron Maiden have confirmed they will not be attending their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, scheduled for November 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The reason is so entirely on-brand it barely needs explaining: they’ll be on tour in Australia. The band plays Melbourne on November 13 and Sydney on November 15, bracketing the ceremony on both sides without so much as a gap in the schedule.

Manager Rod Smallwood made the band’s position clear in a statement to Billboard:  “As the most observant have already noticed, the band will be on tour in Australia around the November date of the induction ceremony for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in Los Angeles. In accepting, Iron Maiden made it very clear to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame that the fans always come first and that the shows will, of course, go on.

“We would like to assure all our fans in Australasia that the Australian and New Zealand dates will remain unaffected and we look forward to bringing the ‘Run For Your Lives’ tour to them on the penultimate stop of our 50th-anniversary celebrations,” Smallwood added.

Iron Maiden are among the performers inductees in the Rock Hall’s class of 2026, alongside Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Oasis, Sade, Luther Vandross, and Wu-Tang Clan. The musicians being honored are Bruce Dickinson, Steve Harris, Nicko McBrain, Adrian Smith, Dave Murray, and Janick Gers, along with former members Dennis Stratton, Paul Di’Anno, Blaze Bayley, and Clive Burr.

When the induction was first announced, Smallwood set the tone: “We’d like to thank the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame for including us (and former members who were all part of our story) in the 2026 roll call of inductees. Iron Maiden have always been about our relationship with our fans above anything else, including awards and industry accolades. However, having said that, it’s always nice to be recognized and honored for any achievements within the music industry too!”

He added: “It also seems appropriate for the band to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame this year as we continue our 50th-anniversary celebrations with our ‘Run For Your Lives’ world tour visiting the Americas and beyond. We would also like to congratulate our fellow 2026 inductees and extend our gratitude as ever to our fans for their loyalty, perseverance, and support for over 50 years now! See you all, somewhere on tour.”

What makes all of this particularly enjoyable is the backstory. In 2018, Dickinson famously called the Rock Hall “an utter and complete load of bollocks” during a spoken-word show in Australia, insisting the institution is “run by a bunch of sanctimonious bloody Americans who wouldn’t know rock and roll if it hit them in the face.” He later clarified that his comments had been taken out of context, but didn’t exactly walk them back: “I’m really happy we’re not there, and I would never want to be there. If we’re ever inducted, I will refuse — they won’t bloody be having my corpse in there. Rock and roll music does not belong in a mausoleum in Cleveland. It’s a living, breathing thing, and if you put it in a museum, then it’s dead. It’s worse than horrible, it’s vulgar.”

Harris, for his part, has always been characteristically measured on the subject. “I don’t really think about it, to be honest. I think awards are things that are nice to have when you get them, but it’s not something you’re really striving for — it’s not what it’s about,” he told Rock Talk With Mitch Lafon. “It’s never been about that. It’s always been about just trying to make good music and go out and play good live shows, and that’s it, really.”

That Iron Maiden‘s entry into the Hall of Fame comes mid-tour, mid-anniversary, with Megadeth in tow and Australia as the excuse, is perhaps the most Maiden way this could have gone. The ceremony airs on ABC and Disney+ in December. The band will be soundchecking in Brisbane.

  • VOÏVOD Announces New Live Album “Symphonique” Featuring Quebec Symphony Orchestra, Share Visualizer Video For First Single

After more than 40 eventful years of existence, Canada’s progressive sci-fi metal innovators Voïvod return with Symphonique, a special live release together with the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, set for release on June 5, 2026, worldwide via Century Media Records.

Symphonique, which functions like an epic piece of cinema, showcases Voïvod’s pioneering futuristic metal with the strains of a symphony orchestra, and features a carefully curated Voïvod best-of setlist composed of 12 songs across 73 minutes, recorded live on June 4th, 2025, at the Grand Théâtre in Québec City, Canada.

Offering a first taste of Simphonique,’ the band has shared the first single, “Forgotten In Space (Symphonique),” alongside an official visualizer curated by Cloud Motion Design.

    Pre-order the album here.

Voïvod’s drummer and founding member Michel “Away” Langevin comments: This live album with the Quebec Symphony Orchestra is a longtime dream turned reality. Thankfully, we will experience it again in 2027 with the Orchestre Symphonique du Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean, right in the region where Voïvod formed back in 1983. We wish to take this show across the globe with local orchestras one day, but in the meantime, I hope you will enjoy this epic release. It’s the closest we’ve ever come to sounding like a dystopian sci-fi movie soundtrack, another dream of ours!”

About the first single “Forgotten in Space (Symphonique),” bassist Dominic “Rocky” Laroche adds: “Taken from the album Killing Technology, ‘Forgotten in Space’ transports us to a Mad Max-esque science-fiction universe. Denis “Piggy” D’Amour was even inspired by it when composing parts of the original version. This incredible symphonic masterpiece, orchestrated by Hugo Begin, offers a powerful orchestral introduction that takes us on a musical journey where the fusion of metal and classical music invites us to imagine, for 6 minutes and 27 seconds, that humanity itself may have been forgotten in space…”

  • NEVERMORE Shares Live “Born” Video From Istanbul Return Show

On April 1, Nevermore returned to the stage with a refreshed lineup, playing a sold-out show at IF Performance Hall Beşiktaş in Istanbul, Turkey. The performance marked the start of a new chapter led by original members Jeff Loomis on guitar and Van Williams on drums, joined by vocalist Berzan Önen, guitarist Jack Cattoi, and bassist Semir Özerkan.

The band has now shared a live video for “Born” from that show, explaining: “A mix of board audio with footage taken by crew and fans. Special thanks to the following friends for helping put this together, especially Berkecan who was on point for all of it.”

While reconnecting with their past, Nevermore are moving forward with clear intent. The band is set to join Judas Priest this September for the final seven dates of the Faithkeepers Tour, bringing the new lineup to a wider audience. Complete dates and tickets are available here.

Formed after the end of Sanctuary, Nevermore built a reputation on tight musicianship and a darker, more technical edge. Starting with their self-titled debut in 1995, the band developed its sound further on records like Dead Heart In A Dead World and This Godless Endeavor, gaining a strong following within modern metal.

Now, with Jeff Loomis and Van Williams at the core, the group is pushing ahead again. Reflecting on how things came together, Van said: “It’s been brewing for quite a while and has just started to manifest itself into the now. So what better time is there to kick things off than now?”

New material is already in progress. Van offered a glimpse into the direction, saying: “If the new music had to be described by one word, that would have to be delicious. Because it’s so good it’s gonna leave you hungry for more.” The band is balancing time between writing and preparing for upcoming shows, keeping both the legacy material and future releases in focus.

Over the years, Nevermore has included a range of notable players, including guitarists Pat O’Brien, Tim Calvert, Steve Smyth, and Chris Broderick, each contributing to the band’s evolving sound. Bassist Jim Sheppard also played a major role during the group’s most recognized period.

After the band originally split, Jeff Loomis stayed active with solo records Zero Order Phase and Plains Of Oblivion, co-founded Conquering Dystopia, and spent several years with Arch Enemy, appearing on albums such as Will To Power and Deceivers. Van Williams continued working through projects like Ashes Of Ares and Ghost Ship Octavius. Vocalist Warrel Dane remained active until his death in 2017, leaving behind a catalog that still resonates with fans.

As Nevermore moves into 2026, the focus is on delivering both familiar material and new music with the same level of intensity. Loomis summed it up: “Van and I are super passionate about the band. What we deliver and bring back to the audience is us wanting to hear those old tracks again just as much as the fans. We obviously want our old fans there every step of the way, but also look forward to meeting a new generation of fans as well.”

  • FOGHAT and NAZARETH Announce 2026 U.S. Tour Dates

Foghat and Nazareth are joining forces for a U.S. tour kicking off April 30, bringing together two bands that helped shape the core of classic rock. Both acts emerged from the British blues-rock wave and built long-running careers on a straightforward, hard-driving sound.

Foghat drummer Roger Earl commented: “Foghat and Nazareth! What a great show that’s going to be! Two rock and roll bands that have done lots of shows together over the years. We haven’t worked together for a while but we plan on having a really good time! Both bands come from the same era of rock and roll, and still going strong after 50 or 60 years of being on the road is a fucking miracle! I’m really looking forward to it and so should you! We just keep on rockin’! See you out there!”

On the other side, Nazareth bassist Pete Agnew added: “We’ve shared stages with a lot of great bands over the years, but teaming up with Foghat is something special. They’ve got that same raw, no-nonsense rock ‘n’ roll spirit we’ve always believed in. Night after night, it’s going to be a celebration of the music that brought us all here-loud, proud, and straight from the heart. Fans are in for one hell of a ride.”

Formed in 1971 after members split from Savoy Brown, Foghat built a reputation on blues-heavy riffs and a direct approach to rock. The band racked up multiple gold and platinum records and continues to stay active. Their 2023 release Sonic Mojo reached No. 1 on the Billboard Blues Chart and stayed in the Top 10 for 34 weeks. Despite lineup changes and the loss of key members over the years, Roger Earl remains at the center, keeping the band moving forward on the road.

Nazareth, formed in 1968 in Dunfermline, Scotland, gained worldwide recognition in the 1970s with a mix of grit and melody. Tracks like “Love Hurts,” “Hair Of The Dog,” and “This Flight Tonight” remain staples of rock radio. The band continues to tour globally, delivering sets that lean on their catalog while staying active onstage.

This run pairs two bands with decades behind them, still active and still focused on playing live. The shows are set to highlight their shared roots and the kind of straightforward rock both groups have carried for years.

  • DOWN Announces Remastered Edition Of “Over The Under” And Shares Remastered Version Of “N.O.D”

Nuclear Blast Records is bringing Over The Under by Down back into focus with a newly remastered edition of the band’s third studio album.

Originally released in 2007, the record was produced by Warren Riker and captured a specific period for the band, delivering more than an hour of material shaped by personal struggles and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. At the time, MetalSucks described it as a “snapshot of a band doing what they do best, and doing it honestly and sincerely, egged on by unfortunate catastrophe,” while Punk News highlighted a release that brought together “everything fans praise about these musicians and about the South’s influence on metal and rock. The atmospherics are tense and hellraising as well as hardening, melancholic, and introspective.” The album also landed on multiple year-end lists across major outlets including Revolver, Metal Hammer, and Rolling Stone.

This updated 2026 version of Over The Under features remastered audio handled by Eric Koondel, known for his work with Soilwork, Cynic, Malevolent Creation, and Death. It also marks the first official availability of the album in the U.S. market. The CD and digital editions include the bonus track “Invest In Fear”, making its debut on U.S. physical formats and digital platforms worldwide.

To coincide with the announcement, Down has released the remastered version of “N.O.D.”, offering a preview of the updated sound.

The remastered Over The Under is set for release on June 19 across CD, LP, and digital formats. It can also be pre-order here.

The current lineup of Down features Philip H. Anselmo on vocals, Pepper Keenan and Kirk Windstein on guitars, Jimmy Bower on drums, and Pat Bruders on bass. Their sound remains rooted in thick riffs, blues-driven leads, and a distinct New Orleans edge that has defined the band since its early days.

The group first made its mark with NOLA in 1995, drawing from the combined histories of members tied to Pantera, Corrosion Of Conformity, Crowbar, and Eyehategod. That foundation carried through later releases including Down II: A Bustle In Your Hedgerow, Over The Under, Down IV – Part One, and Down IV – Part Two.

Onstage, Down built a reputation through high-profile runs with Metallica and Heaven & Hell, along with appearances at festivals like Download, Soundwave, and Ozzfest, consistently delivering a direct and heavy live set.

  • COLONEL CLAYPOOL’S FEARLESS FLYING FROG BRIGADE Announce “Return Of The Live Frogs: Volume 1”

Colonel Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade will release Return Of The Live Frogs: Volume 1 on May 22nd, a new live collection capturing the band’s long-awaited return and ever-evolving onstage chemistry. Featuring four extended performances – each stretching between seven and twelve minutes – the release offers a raw, immersive snapshot of a group that has always thrived in the moment, where structure gives way to exploration and no two performances land quite the same way twice.

The tracklist includes “Up On the Roof,” “Phantom Patriot,” “D’s Diner,” and “Cosmic Highway,” each reimagined through the band’s loose, improvisational lens. Built on deep grooves, shifting arrangements, and the interplay between a cast of longtime collaborators, the recordings highlight what has made the Frog Brigade such a cult favorite for more than two decades: a sense that anything can happen at any time, and often does.

Originally formed by Claypool in 2000 as a creative outlet during a transitional period for Primus, the Fearless Flying Frog Brigade quickly became one of his most beloved and freewheeling projects – a place where new material, deep cuts, and left-field covers could coexist alongside extended improvisation and genre-hopping experimentation. Early tours, marquee festival appearances, and the release of Live Frogs Set 1 & 2 and the studio album Purple Onion helped establish the band as a singular live force, bridging the gap between the jam, prog, and alt-rock worlds.

After more than 20 years away from full-scale touring, the Fearless Flying Frog Brigade returned to the stage with a lineup that once again includes longtime members Skerik on horns and Mike Dillon on percussion, alongside Sean Ono Lennon on guitar, Harry Waters on keys, and Paulo Baldi on drums. That lineup remains central to the band’s current incarnation, bringing together players with deep history and an instinctive feel for the project’s open-ended approach.

Return Of The Live Frogs: Volume 1 arrives just as Claypool and Lennon prepare to hit the road for the Claypool Gold Tour, a full-evening run that brings together three distinct projects – Primus, The Claypool Lennon Delirium, and the Fearless Flying Frog Brigade – into one fluid, genre-spanning live experience. Each night, the Frog Brigade set offers a different window into Claypool’s catalog and creative world, with a focus on extended arrangements, improvisation, and the kind of musical risk-taking that has always defined the project.

The tour begins May 20th and runs coast-to-coast through early July, giving audiences a rare chance to see Claypool and Lennon move between multiple bands and approaches in a single evening, from the tightly constructed narratives of the Delirium to the wide-open terrain of the Frog Brigade. For dates and to purchase tickets click here.

With Return Of The Live Frogs: Volume 1, that spirit is captured in its purest form: a band in motion, playing without a net, and leaning fully into the unpredictability that has always been at the heart of the Frog Brigade.
