Fenix Flexin is a longtime member of Shoreline Mafia, the LA rap crew who had a run of huge regional success a few years ago. Right now, though, he’s having a wave of success for a completely different reason. Last week, Fenix released “Rubberz,” a fussy and synthy dance-pop track where he sings in a British accent, almost doing a Morrissey impression. It’s a fascinating left turn, but the conversation around the track has taken on a more depressing edge for a specific reason: A whole lot of people suspect that “Rubberz” is AI-generated.
We like to think of rock and roll as all leather, sweat, and attitude, but if you peel back the distortion, you’ll find a genre built by absolute romantics. Rock stars love to play the tough guy, but at their core, they are often the most sentimental poets in the room, they just hide it behind a wall of roaring amplifiers. Flowers have always been the ultimate vehicle for that sentimentality. For decades, artists have reached for them not to be pretty, but to be heavy. Sometimes a flower in a rock song is a literal, fragile thing trying to
(Anyone who has listened to Defect Designer, and perhaps especially their current album Depressants [released last month by Transcending Obscurity] will expect any discussion with them to be unusually interesting, especially if it includes insights into their creative process — and expectations are fulfilled in the following interview of Dmitry Sukhinin and Martin Storm-Olsen by […]
Joanne Shaw Taylor has released her new single, “Tired Of Being Right,” along with an official music video via Journeyman Records. The track is the latest preview from her forthcoming album, The Trouble With Love, which is scheduled for release on October 23.
The song explores the difficult realization that love alone cannot change someone who is unwilling to change themselves. Opening with a restrained and atmospheric introduction, “Tired Of Being Right” gradually builds into a slow-burning blues-rock ballad centered on heartbreak, acceptance, and moving on.
“A very personal song for me,” Taylor said. “A song about always holding out hope that the one you love might finally step up but sadly sometimes you have to give yourself clarity and permission to leave. Sometimes people will never change no matter how long you invest in them.”
The accompanying music video follows a couple struggling to let go of a failing relationship, reflecting the emotional themes found throughout the song. Interwoven with performance footage, the video mirrors the tension between love, disappointment, and acceptance that drives the track.
“Tired Of Being Right” is the fifth song released from The Trouble With Love, following the title track featuring Joe Bonamassa, “What Good Is My Love?” featuring Orianthi, “Hell Or High Water,” and “This Is Who I Am.” Produced by Kevin Shirley, the album examines the many forms of love, from passion and devotion to heartbreak and self-discovery.

It’s not like Taylor Swift ever disappears for any extended stretch of time, but pop music’s reigning superstar has been especially active for the past week. Last Friday, she released her Toy Story 5 soundtrack song “I Knew It, I Knew You.” On Tuesday, she performed that song and sang with Randy Newman at the film’s premiere. On Wednesday, she sat courtside at Game 4 of the NBA Finals with two Haim sisters and Detective Olivia Benson, all of them rocking matching novelty shirts. And on Thursday night, Swift became the youngest woman ever inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame.
