Beartooth has officially put out its new album, Pure Ecstasy, on Fearless Records, marking the band’s first release with the label. Written and largely produced by frontman Caleb Shomo, the record pushes Beartooth into some of the most immediate and expansive territory of their career, pairing huge hooks with crushing heaviness and some of Shomo‘s most personal writing yet. The album has already landed a spot on NPR‘s NMF longlist, and select collaborations with Jordan Fish (Bring Me The Horizon, Halsey, Good Charlotte) add another layer to the record.
Alongside the release, Beartooth has put out the official video for “Beautiful Again.” Shomo describes the track simply: “It perfectly depicts the duality of my headspace while writing the album. Pure joy and pure despair, nothing in between.”
Beartooth will take Pure Ecstasy on the road with the Pure Ecstasy World Tour. Don Broco, Magnolia Park and Windwaker will support the U.S. dates.
Beartooth has spent the last decade turning into one of modern rock’s most volatile and vital bands. Led by Caleb Shomo, the Columbus, Ohio outfit built its audience by fusing hardcore aggression with arena-scale hooks and a level of emotional honesty rare for the genre. As a new wave of heavy bands takes over streaming, TikTok and rooms as big as Madison Square Garden, Beartooth has planted itself among the genre’s new frontrunners, standing alongside Bring Me The Horizon, Pierce The Veil, and Bad Omens in redefining what heavy-meets-melodic can sound like.
“‘Pure Ecstasy’ was birthed in a studio with Misha Mansoor, ridiculous loudspeakers, and the dumbest heaviest chugs we could chug,” Shomo says. “Once it was brought home and expanded on with Jordan Fish, there was no question it was the album opener.”
It’s a loud, disorienting opening statement, and it means exactly that. “Free” pairs towering hooks with brutal self-examination, catching Shomo in the act of refusing to hide anymore.
“The song is the start of the next chapter of my music and my life,” Shomo says. “The emotional roller coaster that is living can be very complicated at times. In one day you can equally experience pure fear and pure joy. “Free” is the most honest depiction of my soul I will most likely ever make.”
“Eyes Closed” and “Beautiful Again” push Beartooth‘s balance of heaviness and melody into new spaces. “There are so many fun riffs to play on ‘Eyes Closed,’” Shomo notes. “It was so fun to scream out and let go. The song was written from the ground up with Jordan, and the moment it was a demo, we knew we had something special.”
He continues on “Beautiful Again”: “‘Beautiful Again’ was the first song written during the sessions with Jordan after we wrote freely a few months prior. He was adamant that I dig in and write about exactly what I’m going through and how I feel. To me, this song perfectly depicts the duality of my headspace while writing the album. Pure joy and pure despair, nothing in between.”
Paired with the title track and “Free,” these songs add up to a record that feels massive and deeply personal at once, built for the outsiders who’ve followed Beartooth for years while cracking the door open for new ones.
That honesty has always been the band’s foundation. Shomo started Beartooth out of his Ohio basement back in 2013, writing, playing, and producing everything himself, turning anxiety, depression, anger, and isolation into songs fans could scream right back at him. Over time, Beartooth became both wound and cure, a way of transforming pain and self-destruction into something that connects with millions.
What started as a solo outlet has grown into one of modern rock’s biggest success stories, from the gold-certified Hated to the platinum In Between, sold-out tours and an audience that keeps expanding.
Pure Ecstasy marks a shift. It’s bigger and more open than anything Beartooth has done, and for the first time, Caleb Shomo didn’t make that leap alone. Where past Beartooth records tended to document survival, this one deals with what comes after it: acceptance, self-awareness, and finally letting people in.
Beartooth has historically run almost entirely as Shomo‘s solo vision in the studio, but Pure Ecstasy became the most collaborative record the band has made. Early writing input from Skyler Accord (Issues, Twenty One Pilots, Bilmuri) helped shape songs including “For Me By Me,” while sessions with Fish (Bring Me The Horizon, Poppy, Architects) pushed Caleb into deeper, more exposed territory than ever. Caleb calls the process “the single scariest thing I’ve ever done,” but doesn’t hesitate to call the outcome a gift.
“He was feeling those things with me and pushing me to express them,” Shomo says of Fish. “Every time I felt like I didn’t have it, he’d carry me to the finish line, and every time, a few days later, I’d listen back and think, ‘I’m so glad I didn’t back off. I’m so glad I didn’t hide.’”
That same collaborative energy carried through the recording sessions. Bassist Oshie Bichar, who’s been alongside Caleb since 2014, guitarists Zach Huston and Will Deely, and drummer Connor Denis have grown into a formidable live unit, and all took on bigger roles in the studio than ever before. Pure Ecstasy is also the first Beartooth album where Shomo didn’t play every instrument himself, with Denis performing on every song, much of it captured in complete takes at NRG Recording Studios.
For years, Beartooth turned pain into anthems built to be screamed back at them. Pure Ecstasy captures the other side of that fight, not peace or perfection, but the possibility of actual freedom. It’s Shomo stepping into the light instead of running from himself. Looking at the band’s catalog, the path was always pointing here: Sick, Disgusting, Aggressive, Disease, Below, The Surface. Pure Ecstasy was always the destination.
