Listening Now : No New Lovers – Doubtcaster

No New Lovers make a compelling entrance with Doubtcaster, the first glimpse from their upcoming EP Origin. Built around a dark, pulse-driven groove and a strong melodic undercurrent, the track unfolds with cinematic precision, drawing from a rich blend of influences that defy easy categorization.
Straddling the line between analog warmth and digital clarity, Doubtcaster feels immersive and fluid, with layered textures and subtle hooks that gradually reveal themselves. There’s a sense of movement and inevitability in its progression, as if the duo’s chemistry naturally shapes the track’s direction.
As an introduction to Origin, this single hints at a broader, genre-blurring vision—one that merges alternative, indie-pop and psych-infused elements into a cohesive, emotionally charged listening experience.

7 Noir Survival Thrillers Where the Atmosphere is the Real Killer
7 Noir Survival Thrillers Where the Atmosphere is the Real Killer
Is there anything more haunting than a chase through a landscape that feels alive? In Noir survival cinema, the predator isn’t the only threat—the shadows are, too.
Most people associate the ‘Survival’ subgenre with the wilderness, but injecting the DNA of Noir transforms the threat into something psychological and atmospheric. These are films where the rain, the architecture, and the silence do more to suffocate the protagonist than any villain ever could.
Much like the “Noir Rock” we create at Edgar Allan Poets, these films rely on tension, rhythm, and a deep sense of inevitable dread (source).
Turn out the lights. The chase is about to begin.
1. The Night of the Hunter (1955)
While it predates the 70s boom, this is the blueprint for the “Gothic Chase.” The dreamlike, expressionist cinematography creates a world that feels like a Grimm’s fairy tale gone wrong.
2. Deliverance (1972)
The ultimate 70s survival nightmare. Here, the “Noir” element is found in the total breakdown of civilization. The river isn’t just a setting; it’s a cold, indifferent force of nature that punishes the characters for their intrusion.
3. The Warriors (1979)
An urban survival odyssey. The “chase” spans the entire city of New York, turning the subway and the streets into a neon-lit labyrinth. It perfectly captures the gritty, hopeless atmosphere of late 70s cinema.
Explore the visual language of 70s Noir4. Southern Comfort (1981)
Often overlooked, this film follows soldiers lost in the Louisiana bayou being hunted by an invisible enemy. The fog and the swamp water create a claustrophobic trap that feels intensely Poe-esque.
5. The Hitcher (1986)
A masterpiece of road-noir. In the vast, empty desert of the American West, a personification of pure, motiveless evil relentlessly pursues a young man through a psychological vacuum..
6. Se7en (1995)
While primarily a detective story, the final act is a survival game played in the mind. The constant rain and decaying city make the environment feel like it’s physically rotting alongside the morality of the characters.
The Psychology of the Chase: Why we love the hunt7. No Country for Old Men (2007)
A modern Neo-Noir that perfected the silent chase. There is no music—only the sound of wind, footsteps, and the relentless ticking of fate. It is survival in its purest, most cinematic form.
The Soundtrack to the Chase
Cinema is half visual and half sonic. To truly immerse yourself in the world of Noir Survival, you need a soundscape that mirrors the tension of the hunt. We’ve curated our most atmospheric tracks to serve as the score for your next descent into the shadows.

Wear the Darkness
If you feel more at home in the shadows than the light, our latest collection is designed for you. Inspired by the same tension found in these classic films.

In these films, just like in a Poe poem or a Noir Rock track, the resolution doesn’t always matter as much as the *feeling* of being pursued. It’s the adrenaline of the dark.
Don’t look back. Just keep running.
The shadows don’t just hide the monster; sometimes, the shadows ARE the monster.
