Michigan Melodic Death Metal Icons Return to Europe with a Career-Spanning Headline Tour

The Black Dahlia Murder today announce “Two Decades Of Nocturnal,” a European headline tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of their landmark 2007 album Nocturnal. The tour will see the Michigan melodic death metal veterans perform a special set drawing heavily from the landmark album alongside fan favorites spanning their entire catalog, bringing one of extreme metal’s most beloved records back to European stages this winter for a series of headline shows.

Released on September 18, 2007 via Metal Blade Records, Nocturnal marked a defining moment in The Black Dahlia Murder‘s career and in American extreme metal at large. Recorded with Eric Rachel at Trax East and mixed by Jason Seucof at Audiohammer, the album debuted at No. 72 on the Billboard 200 and earned the band Metal Hammer’s Golden Gods Award for Best Underground Band.

With its visceral combination of flesh-searing riffage, mind-bending guitar solos, and disgustingly poetic lyricism, Nocturnalpushed the boundaries of melodic death metal with an intensity and craft that resonated far beyond American shores. It remains, nearly two decades on, widely regarded as the gold standard of modern US melodic death metal and one of the most important extreme metal records of the 21st century.

European metal press recognized Nocturnal‘s significance from the moment of its release. Metal Hammer UK honored the album’s release era by naming the band Best Underground Bandat their Golden Gods Awards– a prize The Black Dahlia Murder were too busy touring to collect in person. 

Kerrang! has consistently cited the record as a cornerstone of modern melodic death metal, while Distorted Sound has described the band as “one of melodeath’s greatest, most consistent bands” – praise rooted firmly in the standard Nocturnal set.

The Black Dahlia Murderhave faced extraordinary challenges since Nocturnal‘s release and emerged from each one stronger. The passing of beloved co-founder and vocalist Trevor Strnad in 2022 threatened to end the band entirely, but the remaining members, led by co-founder Brian Eschbach, who stepped into the vocalist role, chose to honor Trevor’s legacy by carrying the band forward. Their tenth studio album, Servitude (Metal Blade Records, September 2024), marked Eschbach’s recorded debut as lead vocalist and lyricist, and was met with near-universal critical acclaim across Europe and beyond.

Kerrang! declared that Eschbach’s vocal performance “fits perfectly,” and that Servitude “faces down existential concerns with determination and defiance. Forged from tragedy and loss, it honours their fallen friend while celebrating the survival of The Black Dahlia Murder as an ongoing entity.” 

Metal Hammer UK praised the record, writing that the band “skillfully picked up where they left off… deciding to channel and celebrate him instead and the results are glorious.” Distorted Sound noted that “Eschbach is a commanding, venomous presence and never feels like a hollow recreation of Strnad,” reaffirming The Black Dahlia Murder‘s place as “one of melodeath’s greatest, most consistent bands.“

The band’s return to European stages in 2024, their first since 2019, saw them perform at some of the continent’s most prestigious festivals, including Download Festival (UK), Graspop Metal Meeting (Belgium), Hellfest (France), Wacken Open Air (Germany), Brutal Assault (Czech Republic), Party San Open Air (Germany), Alcatraz Metal Festival (Belgium), and Bloodstock Open Air (England).

Fresh from a triumphant Spring Fling 2026 US headline run and an ongoing co-headline North American tour with Arch Enemy, The Black Dahlia Murder arrive in Europe at the peak of their powers – bolstered by the addition of acclaimed guitarist Wes Hauch (Alluvial, ex-The Faceless) as a full member of the lineup.

Emerging from the frozen forests of Northern Michigan, Mothertomb are preparing to unveil their debut full-length album, Dying to Live , arriving July 14, 2026 . Blending the crushing weight of traditional doom metal with the hypnotic textures of stoner rock, heavy psych, gothic atmosphere, sludge, and progressive songwriting, the independent quartet delivers a powerful first statement that is as emotionally haunting as it is sonically devastating.
For fans of Black Sabbath, Windhand, Pentagram, Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, and Acid King , Dying to Live presents five expansive compositions exploring themes of suffering, transformation, transcendence, and the eternal struggle between darkness and light. Inspired by Welsh folklore and the shadowed depths of the human psyche, the album journeys through allegorical landscapes populated by ancient spirits, inner demons, and the unseen forces that shape the human condition.
The band’s name itself was born from tragedy. During Northern Michigan’s historic ice storm of April 2025, widespread devastation left more than 145,000 residents without power for weeks in below-freezing temperatures. Witnessing the forests encased in thick ice, simultaneously breathtaking and catastrophic, the members found themselves staring into what felt like Mother Nature’s own tomb. That surreal duality of beauty and destruction became the inspiration for the name Mothertomb , perfectly reflecting the emotional and sonic contrasts that define their music.
“Set for release on July 14, 2026, Dying to Live is Mothertomb’s debut full-length album. Across its five tracks, the record explores themes of transformation, suffering, transcendence, and the timeless struggle between darkness and light. Drawing inspiration from Welsh folklore and the shadowed corners of the human psyche, the songs traverse landscapes inhabited by ancient spirits, inner demons, and the forces that shape the human condition.
The album unfolds through layers of metaphor, allegory, and introspection, inviting listeners into a world where darkness and illumination coexist. From brutal heaviness to moments of eerie beauty, Dying to Live is a journey through the depths of the human experience.

Long before the album’s release, Mothertomb began earning widespread praise throughout the underground metal community with the singles “Beware” and “Mountain Hag.”
Steve Howe of Outlaws of the Sun described “Beware” as:

Recorded at Death Box Records in Charlevoix, Michigan, Dying to Live was produced by Alton Minor alongside the band, with mixing and mastering handled by Minor. Every aspect of the project reflects the group’s fiercely independent DIY philosophy, from the songwriting and production to the striking artwork illustrated and designed by vocalist Alice Gawlinski .

German melodic hard rock veterans Mad Max will celebrate 45 years as a band with the release of their new studio album, Stories Of Destiny, on September 4, 2026, through ROAR, a division of Reigning Phoenix Music.

The record combines new songs with revived older material and collaborations with several respected names from the rock and metal world. It also introduces new vocalist Alan Clark from the U.K., while original Mad Max singer Andreas Baesler returns as a special guest for his first appearance with the band in 45 years, connecting the group’s beginnings with its current lineup.

To launch the album, Mad Max has released the first single, “Silver”. Guitarist, songwriter and band founder Jürgen Breforth explained the background behind the track.

“‘Silver’ is the first single from our upcoming brand-new Mad Max studio album Stories Of Destiny.

“Following the international success of the Mad Max comic, the very first comic book by a German band in Latin America, the video continues this world with a story full of mystery, adventure and emotion.

“The song was originally written in 2001 for the debut album of Michael Schenker Group singer Gary Barden, and it was a huge honor to co-write it with Andreas Broon, known for his work with The Sisters Of Mercy, Doro Pesch, and many other artists.

“I always felt that ‘Silver’ had the potential to be a major hit single, but the original album faced many obstacles back then. Now I am more than proud to finally present the Mad Max version, with a slightly heavier guitar edge while still keeping its British melodic touch through our new lead singer Alan Clark from the U.K.”

Founded in Münster, Germany, in 1981 by Jürgen Breforth, Mad Max has spent more than four decades building a reputation as one of Europe’s longstanding melodic hard rock acts. The band’s combination of guitar-driven songs, strong melodies and classic hard rock influences has earned it a loyal international audience through studio releases, touring and festival appearances.

The material on Stories Of Destiny also reflects Breforth’s songwriting collaborations with musicians including Sascha Gerstner (Helloween), David Readman (Pink Cream 69), Andreas Broon (The Sisters Of Mercy) and Michael Voss, whose résumé includes work with Michael Schenker. Those compositions have been revisited and recorded with the current Mad Max lineup while preserving the band’s signature style.

The album also features two previously unreleased Mad Max songs from 1991, “Til’ The End Of Time” and “Weapons Of Love”. Another highlight is a newly recorded version of “Piece Of Candy”, built around the first guitar riff Breforth wrote for the band back in 1981. The song is performed as a duet between Alan Clark and Andreas Baesler, emphasizing the connection between the band’s past and present.

In addition, the Spanish-language version, “Dulces Falsos”, becomes Mad Max‘s first recording with Spanish lyrics, recognizing the band’s growing fanbase throughout Latin America.

The album’s visual identity also ties into the Mad Max comic created by Mexican artist Maestro Arturo Said. The comic follows the band’s story from its formation in 1981 through the 1980s and continues to its first concerts in Colombia in 2023, making Stories Of Destiny both a musical release and a celebration of the band’s history.
