The six-year drought that has left the alternative metal world in a state of suspended animation is finally over. Liverpool’s progressive heavyweights, Loathe, have officially emerged from the shadows to announce their long-awaited third studio album, A Stranger To You.
Set for a July 17, 2026 release via SharpTone Records, the album serves as the highly anticipated successor to their 2020 masterpiece I Let It In and It Took Everything. To celebrate the reveal, the band has unleashed “Revenant,” a chaotic new single featuring a powerhouse collaboration with Jami Morgan and Eric “Shade” Balderose of NOWHERE2RUN and Code Orange. If the “tease” era was an eternity, the “announcement” era is a full-scale sonic assault.
For the last six years, Loathe has been the most “missing-in-action” band in heavy music. Since their 2020 record essentially redefined the limitations of the genre, the band has moved at a meticulous, almost glacial pace. According to bassist Feisal El-Khazragi, the delay was a result of the band “changing as people” and needing time for the “dust to settle” on their evolving tastes.
A Stranger To You is described by the band as their most sonically adventurous work to date. While 2025’s “Gifted Every Strength” gave fans a glimpse into this new evolution, “Revenant” proves that Loathe hasn’t lost their ability to rewire the consciousness of their listeners. The track is sporadically dense, bridging the gap between funk-laden grooves and brutal, guttural outbursts.
The new single “Revenant” marks a significant creative crossover. Teaming up with the core architects of Code Orange (who now operate their industrial project NOWHERE2RUN), Loathe has crafted a track that feels claustrophobic yet forward-thinking.
