Two-time Grammy Award winner Tyler Bryant has released a new song, “Screwed & Tattooed,” a track born from a spontaneous studio session with acclaimed songwriter Rodney Crowell.
The song came together organically at the tail end of Bryant producing Crowell’s latest album, Airline Highway. Sitting in Bryant’s studio with a pair of acoustic guitars, the two musicians leaned into their shared appreciation for low down dirty blues. What started as a loose idea quickly evolved into a finished track, recorded less than an hour after Bryant introduced it to friends during a jam session the following day.
Bryant shared the story behind the collaboration:
“Tyler says, “It’s not everyday that you get to make up a tune with a hero. As a Texan, I grew up on Rodney Crowell’s records. My early blues explorations landed 15-year-old me at a party in California where I met Rodney for the first time. I had no idea then that, 19 years later, I’d be producing an album for him. At the tail end of making Rodney’s latest album, ‘Airline Highway,’ we found ourselves sitting in my studio with a couple of acoustic guitars. We both have a deep appreciation for low down dirty blues and when my right thumb started riding the A string of my old Kalamazoo acoustic, Rodney started spitting out lines. We laughed this song into existence.”
Bryant adds, “My friends came over the next afternoon to jam and I pulled out this idea. It was recorded less than an hour later. This is precisely the magic I hoped my studio would inspire for me and other artists. I’ve always been drawn to “in the moment” captures when it comes to recording. Especially now that we have AI breathing down our necks… It’s time to be as real as humanly possible.”
Bryant has long favored recordings that capture immediacy and human connection over studio polish. The creation of “Screwed & Tattooed” reflects that philosophy, preserving the raw feel of musicians creating in real time. In an era increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and digital precision, Bryant continues to emphasize authenticity and spontaneity in his work.
After years fronting Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown, Bryant is now carving out a distinct path as a solo artist. Releasing music independently has allowed him to follow his instincts without compromise. He describes this new chapter as intuitive, unfiltered, and fully self-directed.
“Screwed & Tattooed” stands as an example of that approach, a blues rooted collaboration built on chemistry, history, and the magic of the moment.

Rob Zombie, Lamb of God and Wage War lead a stacked release week, with Sepultura, Beartooth and Varials delivering everything from groove to pure hostility.
Some weeks feel like maintenance drops.
This isn’t one of them.
There’s actual weight here — veterans swinging heavy and younger bands refusing to sand off their edges. If you’ve been craving riffs with teeth again, this week delivers.
Zombie sounds like he’s back in the basement.
“F.T.W. 84” is grimy, sleazy, and intentionally unpolished. The groove crawls rather than sprints, built on industrial swagger and that familiar horror-tinged pulse he’s mastered for decades.
It doesn’t chase trends. It doesn’t try to modernize. It just leans into grit.
There’s something refreshing about that in 2026.
Lamb of God don’t really do subtle.
“Blunt Force Blues” carries that signature Richmond groove — churning riffs, percussive precision, and a vocal delivery that feels locked into the rhythm section like machinery.
It’s not reinventing the band’s formula.
It’s sharpening it.
And that’s usually when they’re most dangerous.
If you’ve had Lamb of God in steady rotation on the stream lately, this fits exactly where you’d expect — but hits harder than you might anticipate.
Wage War continue leaning into darker, heavier textures.
“Song Of The Swamp” is suffocating in the best way — down-tuned, murky, aggressive. There’s a cinematic sense to it, like the band is building atmosphere before detonating.
The production feels modern but not glossy.
They’re clearly trying to push beyond safe metalcore territory.
Sepultura remain locked into groove and tension.
“The Place” feels methodical — less chaos, more deliberate heaviness. There’s maturity in the pacing. A veteran band that knows when not to overplay.
It’s a reminder that they’ve survived multiple eras because they understand restraint as much as aggression.
Beartooth go the opposite direction.
“Free” is soaring and hook-driven, but still muscular. Caleb Shomo continues walking that line between vulnerability and volatility.
It’s built for bigger stages without losing the urgency.
This one’s going to connect live.
Varials close the week with pure hostility.
“Blissful End” is blunt, direct, and crushing. No frills. No crossover hooks. Just weight.
The breakdowns land like they’re supposed to.
Sometimes that’s enough.
This week feels balanced.
You’ve got legacy acts reinforcing why they’re still here. You’ve got modern heavyweights refusing to soften. And you’ve got bands that understand hooks still matter.
That’s a healthy ecosystem.
So here’s the question: are you leaning toward the raw aggression side this week — or the melodic lift?
What is the best new metal song this week?
Rob Zombie, Lamb of God and Wage War lead the conversation, but it depends whether you prefer groove, atmosphere, or pure aggression.
Is Lamb of God releasing a new album?
“Blunt Force Blues” continues their heavy output, with more details expected soon.
Is Wage War getting heavier?
Yes. “Song Of The Swamp” leans darker and more suffocating than some of their previous material.
Is Sepultura still releasing new music?
Yes. “The Place” shows the band remains creatively active and focused.
Is Beartooth’s new song heavy?
“Free” blends heavy instrumentation with arena-sized melodic hooks.
