California, August, 2026 — California thrash metal outfit Mortalis are stepping into a new chapter with the release of “Split (2026)” , arriving August 28, 2026 at midnight. A newly recorded and reimagined version of one of the band’s original songs, the track marks a significant turning point for Mortalis as the first release featuring their new frontwoman, Patience .
Forged in the backyard metal scene of La Puente, California in 2014 , Mortalis have built their identity around the raw power and precision of classic thrash and heavy metal while refusing to remain trapped in the past. With razor-sharp riffs, harmonized guitars, fierce vocals, technical musicianship, and an explosive live presence, the band carries the spirit of the genre’s legendary pioneers into a new generation.
Now, with Patience stepping behind the microphone, Mortalis are ready to push that sound even further.
“ Split (2026) ” is more than a re-recording. It is a statement of transformation.
The song was originally featured on Mortalis’ Earthworks EP and was handpicked by Patience as her favorite track from the band’s earlier material. The new version captures the song with a renewed sense of aggression, power, and intensity, showcasing the band’s evolving identity while retaining the foundation that made the original track stand out.
“Split (2026) by Mortalis is the seething battle cry of an internal war,” the band explains. “An anthem for those who once fiercely and loudly opposed the injustices of the world no matter the consequences, but now wither as they fall into line, a cowardly carcass of the renegade they once were.”
At its core, “Split (2026)” explores the conflict between rebellion and conformity, confronting the uncomfortable reality of watching people who once stood firmly against injustice slowly surrender the convictions they once fought for. It is aggressive, confrontational, and unapologetically metal.
For listeners drawn to the technical precision and controlled chaos of Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, and Metal Church , “Split (2026)” delivers a familiar foundation with a distinctly modern attack.
The release also represents an important milestone in Mortalis’ history.
As the first song recorded and released with Patience, “Split (2026)” officially ushers in the band’s next era while also marking a transition following the departure of two longtime members.
