  • This Week In Metal: Sevendust, ERRA And Venom Lead This Week’s Best New Crushing Cuts

    Untitled 31

What Are The Best New Metal Songs The Week Ending March 7, 2026?

This week’s standout metal releases come from Sevendust, ERRA, The Amity Affliction, alt., Nervosa and Venom — delivering a mix of modern heaviness, emotional metalcore, thrash ferocity and legendary extreme metal attitude.

    TL;DR:

Six new metal songs landed this week that deserve immediate attention. Sevendust return with the defiant groove of “Unbreakable,” ERRA unleash atmospheric heaviness with “Black Cloud,” The Amity Affliction deliver raw emotion on “Bleed,” alt. swing hard with the explosive “Sucker Punch,” Nervosa bring relentless thrash on “Ghost Notes,” and Venom remind everyone where extreme metal started with “Lay Down Your Soul.”

    Sevendust — “Unbreakable”

Few bands in heavy music have maintained the consistency of Sevendust. Decades into their career, the Atlanta veterans still know how to deliver powerful, emotionally driven metal that hits both musically and lyrically.

“Unbreakable” leans into the band’s signature strengths — thick riffs, groove-driven momentum and Lajon Witherspoon’s unmistakable vocal presence. There’s a defiant energy running through the track that feels very much in line with the band’s long-standing message of resilience.

It’s the kind of song that reminds you why Sevendust have remained a respected force in modern metal for nearly three decades.

    ERRA — “black cloud”

ERRA have built their reputation on blending technical metalcore with atmosphere and melody, and “Black Cloud” continues that evolution.

The track moves between dense riffing and soaring melodic passages, with Jesse Cash and JT Cavey trading vocals in a way that keeps the song dynamic from start to finish.

There’s a cinematic quality to ERRA’s sound that continues to expand with every release. “Black Cloud” feels like another step forward for a band that has become one of the most reliable names in progressive metalcore.

    The Amity Affliction — “Bleed”

The Amity Affliction have never shied away from confronting heavy emotional themes, and “Bleed” stays true to that identity.

The song balances melodic hooks with crushing breakdowns while continuing the band’s long-running focus on vulnerability and mental health. Joel Birch’s lyrics once again cut straight to the heart of the band’s appeal.

It’s a reminder that The Amity Affliction’s greatest strength has always been their ability to connect emotionally while still delivering serious heaviness.

    alt. — “Sucker Punch”

UK heavy outfit alt. come out swinging with “Sucker Punch,” a track that lives up to its name.

The song blends modern metalcore aggression with sharp alt-metal grooves and anthemic energy that feels built for a live crowd. There’s a tight, punchy structure to the track that keeps the momentum moving without overcomplicating things.

Bands like alt. are part of the new wave pushing modern heavy music forward — blending accessible hooks with genuine weight.

    Nervosa — “Ghost Notes”

Brazilian thrash powerhouse Nervosa deliver pure intensity with “Ghost Notes.”

The band has built a reputation for blistering speed and old-school thrash energy, and this track continues that tradition. Riffs hit fast and relentless while the rhythm section drives the song forward with ferocious precision.

It’s exactly the kind of track that reminds listeners why thrash metal still thrives when it’s played with conviction and attitude.

Venom — “Lay Down Your Soul”

Few bands in metal history carry the influence of Venom. Their early work helped shape the blueprint for extreme metal and black metal decades ago.

“Lay Down Your Soul” proves the band still knows how to bring that same raw spirit. The track carries the rough-edged aggression and rebellious energy that defined Venom’s legacy from the beginning.

Hearing new material from a band that helped ignite entire subgenres of metal is always a reminder of how deep the genre’s roots run.

  • Games We Play Releases Self-Deprecating Anthem ‘Is This What I’m Made Of?’

Games We Play is back with a bang, and a song that continues his streak of making existentialism feel effortless catchy.

The song is called ‘Is This What I’m Made Of?’ and it finds Emmyn reeling off all of the things that make him who he is, even if he isn’t happy about what is coming out. From relationships to friendships, doubts and fears, it’s all here. The fact that such an emotional unravelling is paired with such a wonderfully upbeat soundtrack, a mesh of folky pop and pop-punk with plenty of horns thrown in for good measure, is a perfect juxtaposition, a reminder that all of these feelings are conjured simply because he is doing what he was born to do.

The result is as quintessential as it gets for Games We Play. Relatable, infectious and brimming with self-deprecating brilliance, it’s a surefire hit.

311 at Ventura Majestic Theater: Concert Review and Photos

What could be better than seeing your favorite band perform in a huge arena…seeing them perform in a small theater in a sleepy ocean-side town. 311 performed a completely sold-out show at The Majestic Ventura Theater, as part of their “Road to 311 Day” – a tour of small theaters and clubs on their way to two back-to-back no-repeat shows in Las Vegas at the MGM Park on 311 (March 11th).

The Majestic Ventura Theater is a small 1200 capacity theater located in Ventura, a coastal town 70 miles north of Los Angeles. It was built in the 1920’s during the oil boom, and originally designed to be a movie theater, but there were no films playing on Wednesday night. Instead, anxious fans circled the block waiting for the doors to open at 7:00pm, mostly hidden from passing traffic by the fleet of semi-trucks and production vehicles needed to haul the equipment and band – definitely an out-of-place visual oddity in such a quaint town.

311 first came on most people’s radar with their 1995 triple-platinum-selling self-titled album, featuring “Down” and “All Mixed Up”. Their popularity only grew with subsequent albums, and their unique mix of rock, reggae, hip-hop, and funk made for feel-good music that was impossible not to move or dance to when it came blasting out of the speakers.

When 311 hit the stage at 9:15pm, and the first notes of “Beautiful Disaster” hit the theater, the audience exploded with a wall of sound that rivaled what was coming from the PA system. To say that they were excited is a gross understatement – everyone had their hands up, and the crowd surged forward to be closer to the performers on stage.

The setlist was a good representation of their career, with songs from eight of their fourteen studio albums, and not just the obvious hits. While they played “Come Original”, “Amber”, “All Mixed Up”, and a cover of The Cure’s “Lovesong”, there were plenty of deeper cuts sprinkled in for hard-core fans. People in the audience were dancing and grooving – it was one of the happiest crowds I’ve ever been in, and the music blasting from the stage was hypnotizing. By the time the last notes of “Down” started to fade, and sweaty and exhausted people slowly made their way to the exit, it was clear that those lucky enough to have been part of the night’s events would have a memory that lasted a lifetime.
