Pacis Sound crafts a deeply cinematic and introspective journey with What the Loons Know About Leaving, an instrumental that blends post-rock sensibilities with orchestral depth. Built around expressive strings, subtle brass layers, and evocative field recordings, the track unfolds as a narrative rather than a composition, guiding the listener through a quiet, emotional arc of transition.
There’s a haunting beauty in its restraint, as each element is given space to breathe, allowing atmosphere and feeling to take precedence over structure. Meditative and immersive, What the Loons Know About Leaving captures the fragile poetry of departure with remarkable sensitivity.
This week’s “Dark Wave” featured music by Tones on Tail, This Mortal Coil, Joy Division, The Sugarcubes, The Armoury Show, Xmal Deutschland, Cindytalk, The March Violets and more.

Alex Calder – “Stuck Inside”
Single, 8 April 2026
[spectral pop]
In one sentence: I just heard the terrible news that Alex passed away in March—truly devastating. I don’t think anyone has written more about his music than I have (79 articles on Still in Rock). Here’s my interview with him: https://www.stillinrock.com/2013/01/interview-stillinrock-alex-calder/. Rest in peace.

Mission In Black is one of the most underrated metal bands from Germany. Founded in 2010, the band released their debut album, “Anthems of a Dying Breed”, in 2018, following the release of an EP in 2012. This EP, titled “Black Infect” brought the band to the attention of El Puerto Records. Three years after… Continue Reading →
The Boar Metal beasts of BOARZOY have launched the official music for “Agency (Is Necessary),” the first single off their upcoming new album, The Great Fires.
The song perfectly encapsulates the band’s sludge-fueled, groove-forward brand of metal. Imagine a boar running roughshod through the pit at a DIY show and you’ve got BOARZOY.
The band comments on the song, “This track is about doing the right thing, especially in the present moment. It’s also our first release with a music video, so we really wanted to capture the intense energy we bring to shows. It’s a display of our ‘Boar Metal’ sound – aggressive, eclectic and hits hard.”

Their debut album, Ever Watchful Hateful Eye is available at: boarzoy.bandcamp.com.
BIO: “From Boston, BOARZOY has forged their own genre, ‘Boar Metal’ – a balance of raw heaviness, eclectic styles, and intense live energy. Known for their high-energy shows, the band is preparing to move to New York City later this year to further expand their reach”.
