The Man In The Arena Tour marks the TWELFTH Australian headline tour with Frontier Touring and kicks off at Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Tuesday 23 March then onto Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne on Thursday 25 March before a final stop at Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney on Saturday 27 March. ​

The skyscraping ambition of ‘Man In The Arena’ lives up to its title, with a hard-hitting R&B groove suddenly bursting into a classic Script mega-chorus built for the biggest of stages. A rousing Danny O’Donoghue delivers a typically charismatic vocal, with lyrics that affirm that the person who dares to put themselves in the spotlight is infinitely braver than anyone who criticises from the sidelines. Its lyrics are taken, in part, from a famous speech by American President Theodore Roosevelt.

The ‘Man In The Arena’ video reunites The Script with director Charles Mehling, who directed the band’s classic videos for ‘Breakeven’ and ‘For The First Time’.

The User’s Guide To Being Human follows 2024’s Satellites. It was a record that saw vocalist Danny O’Donoghue attempt to process the grief that followed the tragic passing of his bandmate and friend Mark Sheehan in 2023. The record was followed by a global arena tour in which every show paid tribute to Mark.

After the tour ended, Danny found himself energised and inspired. Within a week of finishing, he was writing and recording new material with Andrew Frampton, Steve Kipner and Jimbo Barry, who between them had previously contributed to many of The Script’s huge hits, including ‘Hall of Fame’, ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’ and ‘Breakeven’.

‘Man In The Arena’ opens both the album and this rebooted, reenergised new era for The Script. Tarja Turunen is one of those voices that once you hear you never forget. Musically Tarja has had a diverse career and has always been fearless, with her new album ‘Frisson Noir’ she pushes those boundaries again. On episode 18 of 50 Shades Of Slaids Tarja and Slaids sat down to talk the record, and dive into the songs, the guests and the power behind this release. Turin-based band Gli Alberi has officially released their third full-length concept album, Maturafine, via Masked Dead Records. The new record builds its narrative around the image of the desert, operating both as an ecosystem and a metaphor. The tracks explore arid, humanless landscapes that remain vividly alive, conceptually touching upon themes of prayer, temptation, loss, and environmental warning.

Active since 2012, Gli Alberi has spent over a decade crafting a sound that suspends itself between sparse atmospheric landscapes and heavy doom undertones. Maturafine serves as the direct follow-up to their 2022 album Reinhold, which focused conceptually on the Messner brothers’ ascent of Nanga Parbat. With this new release, the group continues to demonstrate a strong focus on thematic storytelling intertwined with their slow, atmospheric heavy metal sound.

Maturafine is currently available to stream across digital platforms. The album is also available for physical purchase on CD, directly continuing the band’s tradition of creating immersive, concept-driven records.

Swedish female-fronted power metal band Shadowborne has released “The Wall,” the third single from their upcoming debut full-length album, Heaven’s Falling. The track continues to build upon the heavy, cinematic soundscapes of the upcoming record, introducing a brand new lore shaped by dark fantasy themes of struggle, loyalty, and betrayal.

Aesthetically inspired by Viking mythology alongside hit series like Game of Thrones and Vikings, the group uses epic storytelling to explore grounded human emotions. Driven by massive riffs and strong melodic hooks, the band tackles concepts of honor, inner conflict, and the cost of ambition. Recommended for fans of Beast In Black, Battle Beast, and Brothers Of Metal, Shadowborne prioritizes heavy, cinematic intensity over pure escapism.

“The Wall” serves as the latest preview for Heaven’s Falling, which is scheduled for release on June 19 via Scarlet Records. Finnish melodic death metal band Noumena has released a new single and music video titled “Surunkehrä.” The melancholic, mid-tempo track follows their previous single “Kuolemankello” and incorporates folk influences alongside shifting time signatures. Thematically, the song explores mythological concepts, focusing on a creature that spins human grief into thread to weave paths leading to the underworld. The accompanying music video visually expands on this lore, featuring vocalist Suvi Uura portraying the mythological Weaver of Sorrow.

Formed in Ähtäri, Finland in 1998, Noumena has spent over 25 years blending Scandinavian death metal traditions with atmospheric melodies. Across their six previous studio albums, the group has consistently built a sound rooted in heavy riffs and Nordic melancholy. The band has also established a strong international live presence, accumulating over 130 performances across Europe and Asia while sharing stages with acts like Insomnium, Moonsorrow, and Beast in Black.

“Surunkehrä” serves as the latest preview of Noumena’s upcoming seventh studio album. The full-length record is scheduled for release later this year in August. In the meantime, the new single and its accompanying music video are currently available to stream across all major digital platforms.

Norwegian metal band Tessia has officially released their highly anticipated concept album, The Cataclysm. The extensive 12-track record serves as the conclusion to a sprawling sci-fi and dark fantasy narrative that the band has been developing over the past several years. Representing more than two years of dedicated work, the album ties its interconnected tracks together through deep lore, thematic consistency, and a cohesive visual identity crafted entirely by the band.

Musically, Tessia blends progressive and melodic death metal with massive choruses, heavy breakdowns, symphonic elements, and atmospheric passages. Storytelling and worldbuilding remain central to the group’s identity, with The Cataclysm designed to reward listeners who appreciate deep immersion into complex, conceptual universes. Finnish metal band Soulgrind has released “Dark Water Wide,” the third single from their upcoming tenth studio album. The track delivers a heavy, melodic sound that blends Nordic atmosphere with dark minor chords and driving rhythms, continuing the group’s exploration of tension and melancholy.

Founded in 1992 by guitarist Lord Heikkinen, the band has spent decades crafting a distinct identity within the Finnish metal scene. Their sound merges elements of gothic, thrash, and black metal, while their lyrical themes frequently delve into the darker aspects of Finnish history to explore concepts of war, passion, and the human psyche.

“Dark Water Wide” follows the earlier release of the singles “Jylhä Metsämies” and “Tears of the Earth.” All three tracks serve as previews for the band’s milestone tenth full-length album, Ad Pulchram Mortem, which is scheduled for release on August 14, 2026, via Inverse Records.

Atlanta-based atmospheric heavy band DEAD REGISTER has released Fiber (10th Anniversary Deluxe Remaster) via AVR. The newly restored edition celebrates a decade since the band first captured the defining sound of their early career. Recorded in 2016 with minimal overdubs, the album captures the group operating on instinct, delivering a heavy, immersive listening experience rooted in the lower registers.

Formed in 2013, DEAD REGISTER has carved out a distinct identity by completely abandoning guitars in favor of bass instruments, synthesizers, piano, and live drums. Centered around the commanding baritone vocals of M. Chvasta alongside Avril Che, the band’s sound draws from post-metal, gothic rock, and industrial textures to create immersive, tension-filled environments. Over the past decade, the group has translated this bleak romanticism into visceral live performances across the United States and Canada.

The remastered edition of Fiber maintains the suffocating atmosphere of the original recordings while sharpening the album’s emotional architecture. In addition to the original tracklist, the anniversary release concludes with a live bonus recording of “Reverse,” captured directly from the soundboard during the band’s original 2016 Fiber release performance.

Oklahoma-based alternative metal band Nova Riot has released a new single and music video for “The Altar.” The track features guest vocal contributions from Matt and Brooke of The Bunny The Bear. The accompanying music video, directed by Paris Pipkin, was filmed inside a decommissioned church and utilizes a dark, horror-inspired aesthetic to match the track’s heavy, atmospheric production.

Operating out of Durant, Oklahoma, the trio describes their specific sound as “bubblegum metal,” blending heavy hard rock instrumentation with accessible, melodic hooks. The group functions as a highly visual entity, prioritizing the connection between their polished studio recordings and their striking, self-produced cinematic videos.

“The Altar” serves as the first preview of the band’s upcoming debut full-length album, Blood, Lies & Lullabies. The seven-track record is scheduled for release later this summer on August 21, 2026, via Eclipse Records.

UK-based dark electronic duo Palindrones have unveiled their reinterpretation of “Adore Me,” originally by Hurtsfall, alongside a new visualiser released in celebration of World Goth Day. The track is available as a free download via Hurtsfall’s Bandcamp page.

Formed by Karen and Jamie, Palindrones continue to expand their sonic universe through new collaborations within the gothic and darkwave scene. On this occasion, the duo reimagine “Adore Me,” bringing their signature atmospheric, dark, and texture-rich electronic approach to the original composition.

The band has shared the official visualiser for the remix via their social media channels, describing it as a gift to fans for World Goth Day, and confirming that the track can be downloaded for free from Hurtsfall’s Bandcamp profile.

The release also coincides with the announcement of a joint show featuring Palindrones, Hurtsfall, and Hexial, scheduled for 12 June in Nottingham, further strengthening ties between emerging acts in the UK dark music scene.

In addition, Palindrones will appear on the lineup for Spain Goth Day III, taking place on 22 May next year, marking their anticipated debut within the Spanish gothic circuit. Their inclusion offers Spanish audiences the opportunity to experience the duo’s intensely atmospheric and emotionally charged live performance.
