Fresh off the release of their debut full-length Deuterium through Peaceville Records last month, Blindead 23 have unveiled a new video for the album’s closing track, “You Are The Universe.”

The Polish avant-metal outfit emerged from the ashes of Blindead, with former Behemoth guitarist Mateusz “Havoc” Smierzchalski leading a lineup that also features Roger Öjersson, formerly of Katatonia, alongside Pawel “Pavulon” Jaroszewicz of Vltimas, whose résumé also includes time with Vader and Decapitated.

Serving as the final piece of Deuterium, “You Are The Universe” explores themes of surrender, personal transformation, and internal struggle. The song moves through feelings of fear, isolation, and self-destruction before reaching a point of acceptance. Drawing on imagery involving machinery, drowning, sleep, and rebirth, the track examines the challenge of confronting a fractured inner self and embracing change.

Discussing the song’s meaning, Blindead 23 said: “The album’s final chapter is about letting go of control and finding clarity within chaos. It is a descent into the self that ultimately reveals a profound truth: the struggle, the war, and the universe itself have always existed within us.”

While the band carries forward elements that defined the early Blindead sound—combining sludge and post-metal with dense riffs and atmospheric electronics—Blindead 23 have expanded those ideas into a new creative direction. At the same time, the group continues to celebrate material from its earlier era during live performances.

The first music created following the band’s rebirth arrived with the “Vanishing” EP. That release was followed by the seven-inch single “Disposed,” which marked Blindead 23‘s first recording for Peaceville Records and was released in 2025.

Deuterium was recorded and produced by David Castillo, known for his work with Opeth, Carcass, Katatonia, and Leprous, at Studio Gröndahl in Stockholm during the spring of 2023. Mixing and mastering were handled by the band’s longtime associate Kuba Mańkowski.

Shinedown have added another milestone to their career, landing their first appearance on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. The band’s single “Searchlight” enters the chart at No. 54, marking a crossover success for the group after years of dominating rock radio.

The track appears on Shinedown‘s latest album, Ei8ht, which was released on May 29 through Atlantic Records. The record was produced by bassist and songwriter Eric Bass at his Big Animal Studio in Charleston, South Carolina.

According to Billboard, “After nearly a quarter century of ruling Billboard’s rock charts, Shinedown crosses over to its first entry on a country ranking, as ‘Searchlight’ debuts at No. 54 on Country Airplay. The song drew 980,000 audience impressions in the June 12-18 tracking week, according to Luminate.”

Speaking about the achievement, Shinedown guitarist Zach Myers said: “It means a lot to us. The fact that we can even be accepted by another format is really cool to us. So, thank you to country radio for playing the song. We know they’re a group of people who are very proud of what they do, so thank you very much for letting us in.”

“Searchlight” has already made a strong impact on rock radio. Earlier this year, the song reached No. 1 on both Mediabase’s Active Rock chart and Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart. The band continues to hold the record for the most No. 1 songs in the history of both charts.

More recently, “Safe And Sound” pushed those records even further, becoming Shinedown‘s 23rd No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart and their 25th No. 1 on the Mediabase Active Rock chart. Those achievements further strengthened the band’s standing as one of rock radio’s most successful acts.

Away from radio, Shinedown have remained highly visible throughout the year. The band performed during the grand finale of “American Idol”, headlined Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival, and launched the Dance, Kid, Dance Act IIworld tour. They also earned back-to-back honors as “Rock Artist Of The Year at the iHeartRadio Music Awards two years in a row.”

The momentum continues this summer as Shinedown take the Dance, Kid, Dance Act II world tour across North America and Europe, with more than 50 shows scheduled in 11 countries.

The band is also continuing its charitable work by donating $1 from every ticket sold to City Of Hope, supporting cancer research and treatment efforts.

Looking ahead, Shinedown will host their first curated festival, Shinedown’s Lunatic Ball Beach Weekend, from October 23-25, 2026, in Miramar Beach, Florida. The three-day event will feature two headline performances from Shinedown along with appearances by Bush, Hanson, Flyleaf featuring Lacey Sturm, Living Colour, From Ashes To New, Guardians Of The Jukebox, Neon Mooners, and additional artists yet to be announced.

When life feels painfully empty, fantasy rushes in to occupy the space. Reinvention begins to resemble transcendence: the promise that the ordinary self might be remade into something larger, stranger, and seemingly indestructible. Yet when dissatisfaction hardens into appetite, self-invention can become self-erasure. The search for meaning may offer a taste of power while quietly stripping away the person who began it.

Berlin newcomers Void Queen give that hunger a hard, low-slung pulse on “Power Sip,” premiering below. Out now via Duchess Box Records, the track is the first single from the band’s forthcoming debut EP, I Wanna Know, arriving on August 21.

After a brief buildup, “Power Sip” locks into a brisk, bass-driven charge. The song sits at the intersection of Penetration’s melodic punk urgency, Au Pairs’ bass-led post-punk tension, and The Runaways’ rough-edged rock ’n’ roll swagger. Pounding drums and a forceful low end provide its physical momentum, while restless guitar textures gather around Vilte Stasiuleviciute’s smoky, emotionally charged vocal. Her delivery shifts from measured restraint toward mounting urgency as the arrangement moves between melodic clarity and gritty intensity.

Lyrically, the song turns that hunger inward. Suspended between illusion and reality, it examines the urge to transform the ordinary into something extraordinary, even at the cost of losing oneself in the process. False immortality, emotional isolation, and self-confrontation converge in what Void Queen calls “a story about becoming everything you once swore you’d never be.”

Void Queen formed in Berlin in March 2024 following a last-minute lineup change. Guitarist Tobi Rachuj and drummer Merlin Niklasch were playing together in another project when their singer withdrew shortly before a scheduled concert. Stasiuleviciute stepped in as a temporary replacement, but by the trio’s second rehearsal, they had already written their first original song, “Suga.”

Longtime friend Helge Siara initially helped the group record demos in his rehearsal-space studio before joining permanently on bass. Those early DIY sessions yielded the band’s first releases, including “Suga,” “Seventeen,” and “Six Feet Underground,” capturing the raw intensity that would become central to Void Queen’s identity.

Momentum came quickly. After early performances in Copenhagen, Void Queen sold out a headline show at Berlin’s Badehaus less than a year after forming. A live session and interview on Fritz FM, along with coverage in Tagesspiegel, further established the group within the city’s underground guitar scene.

The forthcoming I Wanna Know EP expands upon the dark energy of those early recordings, placing emotional vulnerability within explosive rock dynamics. The release further sharpens the qualities already present in “Power Sip”: driving rhythms, atmospheric tension, melodic immediacy, and a refusal to settle inside rigid genre boundaries.
