  • US prog rock group Advent Horizon announce new album “Falling Together”; First single “Past Life Parable” out now

US-based progressive rock group Advent Horizon is set to return with a new studio album titled Falling Together. The follow-up to their critically acclaimed album 2023 release A Cell to Call Home will be released on May 15th, 2026, and is available for pre-order now.
    Falling Together Pre-order

Falling Together is a record about holding your beliefs under a microscope, and determining whether they are truly yours, or whether they were planted there by others when you were young and impressionable. Vocalist/Guitarist/Songwriter Rylee McDonald explains, “I’ve spent the past decade re-examining my upbringing and realized many of the ‘truths’ I was taught were carefully shaped beliefs. While rooted in my own experience, it revealed how we still divide ourselves by religion, politics, and class — an enduring ‘us vs. them.’ Falling Together is my attempt to capture those reflections in song.”

To coincide with the announcement, the band is pleased to share the first single from the album, “Past Life Parable,” along with a full band performance video, which you can see now here: https://youtu.be/HmKbd8nfrhA

McDonald on the track: “Stylistically, ‘Past Life Parable’ is a sort of bridge between our older music and the new direction that I’ve been wanting for some time to take this band in. It’s heavy at times, but it’s also a melody-driven rock song with an overall uplifting tone. The harmonized guitar/synth solo at the end is something I’m particularly proud of, and can’t wait to recreate live.”

Work on the new album traces back further than it might appear. Much of the material began taking shape during the sessions for A Cell To Call Home, when early ideas — including the expansive “In a Lone and Dreary World” — proved too large in scope to fit that record. Rather than force it into the previous release, the band set those songs aside and began shaping a follow-up built around the same musical DNA. By the time A Cell To Call Home arrived, roughly a third of the next album already existed, and the following year was spent refining and expanding it into a complete statement. The goal became clear: distill what makes the band distinct into something heavier, tighter, and more representative of their identity.

The writing ultimately unfolded in two distinct periods. Half of the material dates from 2018–2021, while the remainder was composed during the summer of 2024, when Rylee McDonald and drummer Mike Lofgreen spent Mondays working beside a remote mountain lake in northern Utah. The quiet surroundings and isolation shaped the tone of the newer material, with several key tracks emerging directly from those sessions.

Recording followed between January and May 2025 at Cold House Studios in Provo, Utah, co-produced by the band alongside engineer and mixer Zach Boorman. The album was mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Haken, Leprous, BTBAM) and its visual presentation was completed with artwork by Travis Smith (Opeth, Devin Townsend, Lamb of God, Mastadon), helping bring the project’s sound and atmosphere fully into focus.

  • Nullingroots – Fourth Dimensional Dreamscape Review

Here at AMG Industries, we strive to unearth as many underground gems as possible. Sometimes, though, we may get a bit carried away, as Master of Muppets once did in a TYMHM article wherein he crammed as many shoutouts to other groups as possible. As this solitary line1 has been the only coverage Nullingroots has received here so far, allow me to introduce them more formally. Based in Phoenix, Arizona, Nullingroots was originally formed by Cameron Boesch as an instrumental post-metal solo project. Various shades of black metal were added over time alongside additional band members. The current iteration of Nullingroots includes Alex Haddad, the founder of rising progressive death metal act Dessiderium.2 Now, Fourth Dimensional Dreamscape signals Nullingroots’ re-emergence after a six-year hiatus.

I don’t know the extent to which Alex Haddad participated in writing Fourth Dimensional Dreamscape, but it certainly sounds as if he had a hand in it. The breezy major key melodies that defined last year’s Dessiderium record can be easily discerned in the guitar, bass, and piano, albeit filtered through a post-black lens instead of progressive death. In this way, I prefer Fourth Dimensional Dreamscape to its 2019 predecessor, Malady’s Black Maw, which was much more uniformly blackened with fewer instances to breathe. The most compelling moments now come from the piano and various other keyboard effects, which add a crystalline luster much like the otherworldly stylings of Unreqvited.

Nullingroots packed a lot into the 55 minutes of Fourth Dimensional Dreamscape. The guitar chords often straddle the line between consonance and dissonance (“Fourth Dimensional Dreamscape,” “Remember My Name”). Drum tempo shifts are plentiful to the point of feeling erratic rather than progressive. The most intriguing track, “In Reverie’s Embrace,” combines a mystical keyboard tune with something almost resembling a rap beat played on the virtual drum kit. The vocals are the only area that can sometimes feel monotonous. The fierce rasps fit better within faster-paced songs like “Remember My Name,” but don’t mesh as well with the gentler “Memoir of a Frail Past,” though there are brief instances of smoother, gentler growls (“Life Thief”). The biggest missed opportunity is the complete absence of clean vocals, as Haddad’s singing would likely have complemented much of the instrumentation well if given the opportunity.

Despite its busyness, Fourth Dimensional Dreamscape doesn’t accomplish as much as it could. More often than not, it presents a jumble of independent moments as opposed to a fluid whole. Some of these moments are, admittedly, impressive, such as the guitar shredding partway through “The Optimist.” “Memoir of a Frail Past” and “In Reverie’s Embrace” fare better thanks to recurring keyboard melodies, but the rest of Fourth Dimensional Dreamscape is largely disjointed and at times nondescript. With a minimum track length of 7 minutes, the listener needs more reinforcement to stay grounded, especially in a setting where song intros and conclusions are regarded as optional. Ultimately, I don’t feel guided so much as roughly dragged through the majority of these long-form excursions.

Fourth Dimensional Dreamscape is a promising new sonic direction for Nullingroots after an extended absence, though it’s not without growing pains. I am convinced by the band members’ instrumental prowess, but less so by the songcraft. The first half goes down more smoothly than the second half, but the entire package isn’t sufficiently focused or cohesive. While it’s tough to wholeheartedly recommend Fourth Dimensional Dreamscape, with some tweaks and tightening, there’s a ton of potential for something really good to come. I’m (Nulling)rooting for them.

  • Spirit Adrift Release Standalone Single “Eternal Celestial Energy”, Next Album and Show to Be Their Last

    spiritadrift_band

They say all good things must come to an end and in the case of Nate Garrett‘s brainchild Spirit Adrift, that end is coming soon. Earlier today, the band released a supremely heavy standalone single titled “Eternal Celestial Energy”. If you’re a fan of slowed down, heavy, doom-laden riffs, you’re gonna enjoy the hell outta this one.

Seriously, the scream that breaks out at around the 4:51 mark? I felt that in my soul. This new track feels like it’s got something to say or is trying to be an outlet for folks that need it. Which is exactly what Garrett said in a press statement about the track.

“I can’t speak too much on this song, other than to say it’s probably the heaviest thing I’ve ever written, both sonically and emotionally. It was extremely difficult to make, but hopefully it will resonate with people who need some catharsis.”

Noting that “Eternal Celestial Energy” is a standalone single and not part of their as of yet unannounced sixth and final album, Garrett said the band has begun preparing for the band’s end.

“The sixth and final Spirit Adrift album is approaching sooner than you realize.

“We will debut two brand new, never-before-heard songs at our upcoming show with Crowbar, Eyehategod and Black Magnet on March 20. Thank you so much to all of you who made the show sell out. It will be Spirit Adrift’s final performance. We look forward to the coolest possible farewell we could imagine, in one of the most metal cities in the world!”

It’s a huge bummer to hear a band as good as Spirit Adrift is hanging it up soon. It’s even a bit of a bummer to see them hanging up the live performances in a little over a week’s time. But with their final album coming out sometime in the future, at least we have that to look forward to. After all, the music will always be there.
