  • Video/Track Premiere: Iatt – “Walk Amongst”

It feels like maybe we should have titled this a “short film premiere,” since proggy Philly black metallers Iatt‘s new track, “Walk Amongst,” is accompanied by a high production video that is actually part of a film (featuring all seven songs from their upcoming album, Etheric Realms of the Night) set for release on July 24. “Walk Amongst” is actually the sixth chapter of seven in the film and both musically and visually it packs a lot into just under eight minutes. These dudes—Jay Briscoe (bass/vocals), Joe Cantamessa (lead guitar), Alec Pezzano (rhythm guitar/orchestral arrangements), Paul Cole (percussion)—are definitely stretching the boundaries of extreme metal with their complex arrangements, use of unorthodox instrumentation (the sax is featured prominently here) and just general musical ambition. On “Walk Amongst,” it seems as if every note, transition and movement was thoughtfully composed to create one impressive piece.

Though the film doesn’t drop until July, Etheric is set for release on CD, vinyl and digitally via Black Lion Records on May 8. Place your preorder here.

The band offered us this explanation of how “Walk Amongst” fits into the album and film as a whole:

“’Walk Amongst’ is the rising crescendo of Etheric Realms of the Night; the point where everything finally reaches the peak and gives way. It’s where the line between the waking world and the dream realm shatters, and our protagonist is forced to uncover and face her fate.

At this stage in the story, it’s no longer about exploring; it’s about becoming and the finality of it all. The themes of astral projection and the unknown take on a more real, irreversible weight in this chapter of the film.

We wanted the music to really reflect that shift — something expansive and overwhelming, but still grounded and very focused on the emotional weight. Having Jørgen Munkeby (Emperor, Ihsahn, Shining,) return on sax added a whole other layer to that. It brings this chaotic, almost transcendent energy that really captures the moment.

Narratively, this is the final turning point before everything falls into place in the full film; the ‘nail in the coffin’ so to speak.”
