WILL FAMILY VALUES RETURN? Korn Guitarist Details Internal Fight to Resurrect Metal’s Most Iconic Tour”
For over three decades, Korn has remained the undisputed cornerstone of the heavy music landscape. While the band has never slowed down, one massive piece of their legacy has been sitting in the vault for over a decade: the Family Values Tour. Now, guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer reveals he is the primary force inside the camp trying to bring that “lightning in a bottle” back to the masses.
Munky Shaffer: “I’m the One Saying Let’s Do This!”
The Family Values brand was always more than just a concert; it was a cultural crossover that bridged the gap between metal, industrial, and hip-hop. Speaking in a new retrospective interview with joy.of.everything, Munky confirmed that he hasn’t just thought about a revival—he’s actively lobbying for it.
“I’ve talked about it. I have talked about it. I’m the one that’s like, ‘let’s do this!’” Shaffer admitted.
His vision for a 2026 or 2027 iteration isn’t just a modern festival lineup; he wants to capture the original grit and diversity of the 1998 inaugural run. Munky noted that a lineup featuring the original-era giants would be the ultimate goal: “That would be amazing, and have the originals like Ice Cube and Rammstein. I mean, it’s possible.”

The Family Values Legacy: A History of Chaos
To understand the weight of Munky’s push, you have to look at the tour’s DNA. Launched in 1998, the first trek successfully merged the worlds of Limp Bizkit, Orgy, Ice Cube, and the then-controversial Rammstein.
The tour was a Platinum-selling success, but it has been largely dormant since a one-off destination event in Broomfield, Colorado in 2013. That event featured a shift in sound, including acts like Machine Gun Kelly and Asking Alexandria, proving the brand’s ability to pivot with the times and find the “next big thing” in the alternative world.
TL;DR: The Family Values Dossier- The Internal Advocate: Munky Shaffer is the primary member pushing Korn to bring the tour back.
- The Dream Lineup: Shaffer is targeting original legends Ice Cube and Rammstein for a “roots” revival.
- The Criteria: The guitarist notes it will only happen “if we have the right people involved” to maintain the brand’s legacy.
- Korn Status: The band remains a consistent machine and is currently navigating their 30th-anniversary era.

Analyzing the 2026 Nu-Metal Resurgence
From a current industry perspective, the timing for a Family Values revival has never been more perfect. With Gen-Z listeners discovering the Follow the Leader era via viral trends, the “cross-generic” model that Shaffer pioneered is now the industry standard.
However, the “Rammstein factor” remains the massive hurdle. In 1998, Rammstein were arena-level provocateurs; in 2026, they are a global stadium-filling entity with the most complex pyrotechnic show in existence. Coordinating that level of production within a multi-act festival framework is likely the “logistical mountain” Shaffer is discussing behind closed doors.

A 30-Year Machine: No Reunion Necessary
While other 90s giants are currently cashing in on one-off reunion checks, Korn remains a rare breed of consistency. By pushing for a Family Values revival, Munky isn’t looking to “get the band back together”—he’s looking to reclaim the touring throne that Korn built from the ground up in Bakersfield.

Saosin Share Gigantic New Track ‘Starting Over Again’
Saosin have shared a new track, their first in a decade, and first with vocalist Cove Reber in the fold in even longer, and they really are picking up where they left off.

Cove reunited with the band back in 2024, after singing on their first two full-lengths, 2006’s ‘Saosin’ and 2009’s ‘In Search of Solid Ground’. And this new song serves as the first music from the band as a whole since their third full-length ‘Along The Shadow’, a record that had original vocalist Anthony Green on frontman duties.
And ‘Starting Over Again’ is as much a mission statement as it is a reminder of what it means to make music under this moniker. Melodically grand, ethereally beautiful, and sensational in its boldness, it is an anthem in every sense of the word. A spine-tingling return to the table that sets the standard for whatever they are cooking up next.
And with it being their first offering for new label Sumerian, you know something special is on the horizon.
The band had this to say about the track and what it means to them:
“‘Starting Over Again’ is our first new music in over a decade, and it came from the fans calling for it and us realising the timing finally felt right. The chemistry in this lineup is undeniable, and everything just clicked. This song is exactly what the title says. A reset, but with more clarity, more urgency, and way more fire behind it. It feels like the start of something big for us, not a throwback, but a step forward.”
The band are scheduled to make their return to the UK next month at Slam Dunk Festival. Taking place on May 23 at Hatfield House, Hatfield and on May 24 at Temple Newsam Park, Leeds. Rubbing shoulders with Good Charlotte, Taking Back Sunday, State Champs and Dashboard Confessional, to name a few, it’s going to be a classic. Grab your tickets from right here.
