Blues Hall of Famer’s heart stopped for 25 minutes following heart attack
Grammy-nominated blues artist Kenny Neal has shared a new update on his recovery after suffering a major heart attack earlier this month.
In a statement posted to his social media pages, Neal revealed the severity of the medical emergency, saying his heart stopped for 25 minutes before doctors were able to revive him.
Neal shared the following message with fans:
“I just want to thank you all for your prayers and thank the hospital staff for taking such good care of me, they’ve just been wonderful. My heart literally stopped for 25 minutes and they brought me back. I guess the Lord wasn’t ready and the devil didn’t want me!
I’m still recovering and it’ll be 3-4 months before I’m back in action but I’m feeling positive and I’m just so thankful to be alive.
Thank you to my kids for being with me every step of the way.
You gotta let life flow!”
The update comes days after Neal’s family announced that he had survived what they described as a major heart attack in Louisiana. At the time, his family said Neal was stable and recovering in the ICU following an intense effort by medical personnel to save his life.
One of the most respected figures in modern blues, Neal earned a Grammy Award nomination in 2017 for Bloodline in the Best Contemporary Blues Album category. The album also received two Blues Music Awards and helped further establish Neal as one of the leading artists in contemporary blues.
Neal was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in May, adding another milestone to a career that has spanned decades.
While Neal indicated it could be three to four months before he returns to performing, his latest update suggests he remains optimistic as he continues his recovery.
