  • Death Cab For Cutie Announce New Album ‘I Built You A Tower’

Death Cab For Cutie are back with their first full-length in four years, and their first for their new label ANTI- Records.

It’s going to be titled ‘I Built You A Tower’ and will be released on June 05. It follows on from 2022’s ‘Asphalt Meadows’.

Bassist Nick Hamer had this to say about the record’s creation, stating, “We felt part of this powerful force greater than all of us and went into the studio with a sense of, how can we capture that feeling and put it into something new?” Harmer continues, “The whole experience of this record got us back to the earliest versions of this band: If the musicians in the room like what we’re working on, that’s enough. We reconnected with the confidence that comes with that.”

    The artwork looks like this:

Whilst the tracklisting is more like this:

    1. Full of Stars
    2. Punching The Flowers
    3. Pep Talk
    4. I Built You A Tower (a)
    5. Envy The Birds

    7. How Heavenly a State
    8. Trap Door
    9. Riptides
    10. The Flavor of Metal
    11. I Built You A Tower (b)

The first taste of the confidence the band felt is out now as well, in the form of ‘Riptides’, a beautifully paced and wonderfully intricate piece of alternative tapestry weaving. A showcase of the emotion that has bolstered the band’s output throughout their journey, delivered in a way that feels as familiar as it does fresh. Thoughful, tender and thrilling all in equal measure.

Seven and a half years after The Passage Of Existence, MONSTROSITY are as aggressive as ever: their blast beats pound, doom passages shake you to your core, and riffs cut deep.” – Metal Hammer Germany

US death metal legends MONSTROSITY present their video for “Banished To The Skies,” the ferocious opening track of their Screams From Beneath The Surface full-length, out now on Metal Blade Records.

Drummer Lee Harrison wrote the song during the mixing sessions for MONSTROSITY‘s previous album, The Passage Of Existence. It features dark, melodic sections with Mark Van Erp’s basslines standing out distinctly. Intricate hi-hat and ride cymbal patterns blend with Harrison’s signature double bass drumming. Matt Barnes’ iconic solo kicks off the track, delivering a powerful, crushing dynamic to the song. A killer performance from new vocalist Ed Webb tops off the track. The video for the song was captured in Nashville, Tennessee, by Inferi guitarist Malcolm Pugh.

Screams From Beneath The Surface – their first full-length in seven years – showcases the band’s signature blend of aggression, technical precision, and intensity. Led by drummer, founder, and primary songwriter Lee Harrison, MONSTROSITY is reinvigorated with a formidable lineup: long-tenured guitarist Matt Barnes, the triumphant return of original bassist Mark Van Erp, and vocalist Ed Webb (ex-Massacre), whose guttural, visceral delivery injects electrifying new energy into the band’s sound. Screams From Beneath The Surface not only solidifies MONSTROSITY‘s hallmark death metal ferocity but also pushes the genre’s boundaries, forging a path that is both innovative and true to their roots.

In a 9/10 rating, Rock Hard Germany calls the record, “A strong contender for the title of Death Metal Album Of The Year!Aardschok awarded the band Album Of The Month accolades writing, “MONSTROSITY is already setting the bar very high… for the upcoming (death) metal releases of 2026. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard such a strong death metal album, one whose songs, despite – or perhaps because of – their sheer variety and dynamism, remain memorable after two listens and make such an impression. Year-end material,” while Decibel Magazine notes, “MONSTROSITY are doing the aging-like-fine-wine thing after 36 years and seven albums…” Adds Metal Bite, “Screams From Beneath The Surface is indicative of a band with plenty of juice left, plenty of great ideas but most importantly, plenty of understanding of what constitutes the real authentic technical death metal experience. Perfection.

The recording process spanned multiple studios to achieve sonic perfection. Drums, bass, and mixing were handled at Audiohammer Studios under the expert guidance of producer Jason Suecof (The Black Dahlia Murder, Deicide, Job For A Cowboy), while vocals, guitars, and mastering took place at the legendary Morrisound Studios, where MONSTROSITY reunited with revered producer Jim Morris (Iced Earth, Warrant, Savatage), alongside Mark Prator and BJ Ramone. This combination of cutting-edge and classic production techniques ensures a punishing sound that is honoring the band’s storied history while embracing modern death metal’s evolution.

Screams From Beneath The Surface is available on CD and digital formats as well as vinyl in the following color variants:

    Gray Marble (US Exclusive)
    Orange Smoke (US Exclusive)
    180g Black

Suffocating one moment and set adrift the next but always returning to the heart of the matter – true fucking death metal… Screams From Beneath The Surface is indicative of a band with plenty of juice left, plenty of great ideas but most importantly, plenty of understanding of what constitutes the real authentic technical death metal experience. Perfection...” – Metal Bite

MONSTROSITY is already setting the bar very high… for the upcoming (death) metal releases of 2026. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard such a strong death metal album, one whose songs, despite – or perhaps because of – their sheer variety and dynamism, remain memorable after two listens and make such an impression. Year-end material…” – Aardschok

MONSTROSITY delivers a worthy return to form, armed with skillful execution, attention-snaring riff crafting, and powerfully dynamic production. Despite the lineup changes that have come and gone for the band, the rhythmic soul is still intact and despite the frequent changes, this still feels like the MONSTROSITY of old. It’s great to see a band of this caliber, with this level of history, still active and recording in 2026, and it marks one of the most solid death metal records of the late winter season.” – Apanthropy

MONSTROSITY survived a lot in their almost half a century as a band, and the fact that Screams From Beneath The Surface is this solid is a testament to them. Death metal has branched off in so many directions that playing it straight seems ill advised. But MONSTROSITY proves that isn’t true. This is as real as anything, and this record stands as evidence that sometimes the veterans actually know what’s best.” – Meat Mead Metal

  • Exclusive: Osmium Gate’s Drew Ehrgott Breaks Down ‘Cannibal Galaxy’ Track By Track

OSMIUM GATE 4 by Sarina Villareal Ehrgott

It’s not too often when you hear about an instrumental black/cosmic metal duo, but that’s exactly what we’re highlighting with Osmium Gate’s debut album Cannibal Galaxy. Released this past Friday, the album’s been a real interesting listen and I think you guys are going to find it to be one of the more unique things we’ve had on here in a while.

Rather than jabber on myself about the album, we asked Osmium Gate guitarist/bassist Drew Ehrgott to take some time and break down the tracks that make up Cannibal Galaxy. We wanted to hear what the songs are meant to illustrate in the soundscapes they crafted for this release, so what better way to do that than to go to the source?

So without any further delay, here’s Osmium Gate’s Drew Ehrgott and his break down of Cannibal Galaxy.

    Waters of Natron

“Waters of Natron” evokes a body of water that does not consume, but preserves. Here, living forms are arrested in time, hardened into silent monuments. The music drifts between tension and collapse, reflecting a place where nature’s chemistry becomes judgment.

    Sailing Stone

“Sailing Stone” reflects a phenomenon once believed impossible, where weight moves without witness or will. Stones trace silent paths across the earth, leaving questions where certainty should be. The music lingers in that space between wonder and explanation, where mystery remains even after the answer is given.

    Booming Dunes

“Booming Dunes” draws from landscapes where the earth gives voice to itself. As sand shifts and slopes collapse, the ground emits a low, resonant hum that carries across the desert. The song inhabits that moment when terrain becomes sound, and the land briefly reveals its own hidden language.

    Whale Fall

“Whale Fall” contemplates descent as transformation. A massive body sinks into darkness, its end becoming a beginning as life gathers in the deep. The song moves slowly and deliberately, mirroring a process where death feeds continuity and the ocean quietly reclaims what it is given.

    Nacreous

“Nacreous” takes its name from a rare formation that appears high above the earth, luminous and fragile against the darkening sky. The song reflects a brief convergence of light and atmosphere, where beauty emerges from extreme conditions and vanishes as quietly as it arrives.

    Blood Rain

“Blood Rain” draws on storms that stain the sky and ground alike, turning rainfall the color of warning. Long regarded as a sign of calamity, the phenomenon blurs the line between fear and understanding, where dread persists even after the cause is known.

    Cannibal Galaxy

Cannibal Galaxy reflects a universe that grows through consumption, where vast systems devour smaller worlds to fuel their expansion. Even our own galaxy carries this appetite, quietly reshaping itself through cycles of destruction and creation. Against this immensity, humanity’s place is fleeting, our existence fragile beneath the pull of forces far beyond comprehension. The song mirrors this cosmic hunger, immense, inevitable, and merciless.

    Lights Over Hessdalen

Lights over Hessdalen contemplates a sky that refuses explanation, where ephemeral glows drift silently over a remote valley. Witnesses perceive patterns that hint at intelligence or will, yet the truth remains elusive. The song moves like the lights themselves: unpredictable, haunting, and impossible to contain.

And how when these two elements intertwine themselves in our psyches, it feels utterly paralysing.”
