As Everything Unfolds have shared the latest taste of their upcoming record ‘DID YOU ASK TO BE SET FREE?‘, and they just keep on getting better and better.

This track is called ‘DENIAL’ and finds the band bridging the gap between the bludgeoning past and atmospheric present. Neon-drenched melodies clash brilliantly with throat-shredding howls to craft a sound that is as savage as it is spine-tingling. An example of how modern post-hardcore should be, bold, brash and beautifully affecting.
And lyrically, it’s a song that the band have a lot of thoughts on, as vocalist Charlie Rolfe explains:
“Denial is the hardest thing to watch someone go through. You can say or do nothing that will make them realise the horrible situation they’re in, you see small moments of clarity where they’re screaming out for help but they fall back into denial. It’s their closest friend, their comfort. I found it the hardest phase to watch someone in addiction recovery go through, their disregard for your emotional and physical wellbeing, your feelings don’t even come into their mind, no matter how much you try to sympathise and say that you understand the pain they’re going through, it’s never enough to convince them that they’re not alone & their own destructive misery feels like they find joy in inflicting pain upon others, they feel better spreading their pain rather than facing it.
‘DID YOU ASK TO BE SET FREE?” will be released on April 10 via Century Media.

(Andy Synn encourages you to embrace the mellifluous black magic of Miserere Luminis) I have no problem at all acknowledging that one thing I’m not great at is making predictions… or, at least, a certain kind of prediction. There have been bands that I was sure would see massive success who have continued to labour […]

Although we here at Decibel prioritize the extremes of heaviness and aggression, we also like to make room for melancholy introspection — when delivered in a compelling way. And that’s definitely what you get on “Colder and Colder,” the latest single from Crippled Black Phoenix. The song is a plodding and contemplative composition that delivers death rock atmosphere and shoegaze-esque moodiness.
Catchy and immediate, but also endlessly mournful and gloomy, it’s the soundtrack to your next rainy day. It brings together the various influences the band’s been known for since its 2004 inception by drummer Justin Greaves. According to vocalist and guitarist Justin Storms, who is featured on “Colder and Colder”:
“I received this song from Greaves along with the title and immediately was drawn to the melancholic sound. I remember when I first put on my headphones and listened to “Colder and Colder.” I started to hum a few melodies while listening to the song. It didn’t take long to write down some of the phrases that became the song’s verses, “Colder and colder / see your hand on my shoulder / colder and colder / see your eyes looking over … ” I wanted to create a rhythmic sort of pattern with the song title and the vocal elements.”
Greaves adds that: “Musically, “Colder and Colder” is one of my favorites on Sceaduhelm. It’s the link between classic CBP style and the more austere, dark pop aspect of how I write. When I picked out the title from my list of ideas, it made total sense. Working with Storms on this song was a total victory. He’s an awesome vocalist and his lyrics really give it a chilling, tragic story.”
Check out “Colder and Colder” below. Sceaduhelm comes out April 17th via Season of Mist. You can find preorder information here.

There are magical objects scattered around Danny L Harle’s studio in Hackney. A small dark silver knight wedges himself between speakers and computer monitors; a star-cloaked figurine of Merlin holds a bright orange flame aloft. Nearby are relics from the producer’s own pop mythology: a black baseball cap from Caroline Polachek’s Pang, a red cornucopia of plastic grapes recalling her “Billions” video, a CD of Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism, a wooden box that reads “Azimuth Circle,” and a black trench coat hanging with a white buoy. The two latter objects nod to Harle’s official debut album Cerulean, out now via XL.
