  • Turnstile Cover The Stone Roses For Like A Version

Turnstile don’t play a lot of cover songs. Early on, they would whip up crowds by playing canonical hardcore anthems from bands like Bad Brains and Minor Threat, and Setlist.fm says that they did the King Nine intro, a recent NYHC classic, a few times in 2023. Turnstile toured Australia back in January, and they stopped by the Australian radio network Triple J to take part in the video series Like A Version. For their appearance on that series, they busted out a cover that’s nothing like what they’ve done before, taking on the Stone Roses’ soaring 1989 classic “I Wanna Be Adored.”

  • The Sheepdogs: Keep Out of the Storm Review

On February 27th, 2026, The Sheepdogs released their 9th LP, Keep Out of the Storm. This album is the first the Canadian band released under their new label Right On Records. Keep Out of the Storm is a bit of a turning point for the band; it’s the first album they’ve produced without their long-time drummer Sam Corbett, who retired from the band after a 20-ish year run in the fall of last year to spend more time with family. In spite of that major change to the foundation of the band’s rhythm section, the new record is great; the artists largely pull off a successful and fun ‘70s-infused blues rock album that stays true to their signature sound.

Drumming duties on Keep Out of the Storm are covered by a killer lineup of guest talent, including: Trevor Falls, Adam Hindle (Dwayne Gretzky, Born Ruffians), Steve Kiely (Golden Feather), Jordan Murphy (Walrus, Adam Baldwin), and Dani Nash (July Talk). The rest of the lineup remains unchanged, with Ewan Currie still on vocals and guitars, Ryan Gullen on bass and backing vocals, Shamus Currie on keys/horns/guitar, and Ricky Paquette on guitars and backing vocals.

Keep Out of the Storm lands at just over 42 minutes, 11 tracks total. The first two-thirds of the album are the strongest (with the exception of the closing number “Out All Night,” which I’ll get to shortly). With most of the final third of the album being serviceable but less fully gripping tunes. The album sounds like a blend of the best of ‘70s era blues rock icons like Bad Company and Grand Funk Railroad, with a healthy dose of The Eagles for balance. Vocal harmony effects on most numbers feel firmly in the succession of Paul Rodgers,  while the guitar and keys work evoke Joe Walsh and Craig Frost, respectively.

The standout tracks on Keep Out of the Storm are the title track, “All I Wanna Do,” “I Do,” and “Out All Night.” If we take these excellent songs in order, “Keep Out of the Storm” is a mellow humping slower-burn blues tune that feels like some of the darker work of Bob Welch. “All I Wanna Do” It’s a faster party rocking number that really showcases the fun keys and guitar work on the album. “I Do” is a simple march-feeling song that may be a little bit overly saccharine, but it’s still a touching slower blues rock romance song with a lot to enjoy.

Finally, “Out All Night,” the 11th and final song on Keep Out of the Storm, does an excellent job bringing back the rock and roll after a couple of more introspective and almost progressive numbers that didn’t quite hit me the same as the earlier part of the album. “Out All Night” feels like something my dad would have been blasting on the stereo as we drove somewhere when I was a kid, which is the best compliment I can really play a vintage inspired blues rock act.

Keep Out of the Storm shows that The Sheepdogs aren’t missing a step, despite a lineup change that would cause an existential crisis for many bands. It’s an album fueled by nostalgia for the sounds of a time gone by for the blues rock genre, and anybody who loves a little bit of fringe jacket and flare jeans to their blues will be thrilled with this record.
