  • Danny Carey Says Tool Could Be Setting Up a Las Vegas Residency After Their Next Record

    Tool23

There’s been talk in recent months about the next Tool record, with 2027 seemingly set as the goal for its eventual release. It seems like lofty expectations, considering it took 13 years between the last two releases, but drummer Danny Carey seems to think that’s what’s going to happen — and that it will be followed up with some exclusive time in Las Vegas as a residency act.

While speaking with Spiral Out (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), Carey said the band is currently working on “a lot of new Tool songs right now.” The fact they’ve got new work going on only seven years since the 2019 release of Fear Inoculum should excite long-time Tool fans that remember the drought that came before that release.

As the conversation revolved around new music, the interviewer brought up how “cinematic” the band’s live performances are. It was at that moment that Carey mentioned how the band was extremely into playing live and that they hoped to dial up the cinematics with a stint at Las Vegas’ unique venue The Sphere.

“We’re hoping when we release the new record, maybe do a stint at the Sphere [in Las Vegas] ’cause I think we’re the perfect band for that. We’ve been talking to those guys.”

I, for one, cannot being to fathom what a Tool show at The Sphere would to do the psyches of folks that attend those shows high on various substances. The audio/visual stimuli that would bombard your senses in The Sphere during a Tool show might promote ego death without much effort. It just sounds like it would be bananas.
