THE HOWLING VOID
“The Darkness at the Edge of Dawn”
Avantgarde Music
2017 marks the tenth anniversary since the birth of THE HOWLING VOID, Ryan Wilson’s personal interpretation of melancholic, symphonic doom metal. Started as a funeral one-man band, THE HOWLING VOID evolved along the way and became something different, smoother, warmer.
“The Darkness At The Edge Of Dawn” is the sixth full-length album of the San Antonio-based project, and continues the patterns that Wilson pictured for his Avantgarde Music debut “The Triumph Of Ruin” and the “Runa” EP.
A handful of slow-paced, contemplative songs somewhere between eastern European funeral doom metal and US classic, muscular sounds. Wilson’s symphonic hints and his wise use of keyboards quickly became a trademark for the band sound – “The Darkness At The Edge Of Dawn” is no exception.
Haunting whispers rest on riffs like monoliths and mellow melodies interwine with tremolo pickings, making THE HOWLING VOID once again a suitable companion for both more extreme listeners and classic doom fans.
