People think that going to heavy metal shows is expensive. And well, if you refer to mainstream and popular acts, that is certainly the case. While we also don’t mind some more well-known bands, I sure as hell enjoy quite more some underground shows. Even though the band I’m going to see isn’t really underground! But let’s start at the very beginning… First of all, a huge thank you to Versus Music Project for having me there!
Revival In Veins
The doors open at 8 PM, and just three minutes behind schedule the first band of the evening takes the stage of the Damage Inc. They’re a local act called Revival In Vains, and they offer a nice modern metal mixed with metalcore. The band is pretty static on stage though, and they try their best to engage with the audience despite the affluence isn’t yet at its apex. Their performance lasts about 30 minutes and while the audience demands for more, unfortunately the show must go on.
Orbitlane
At atbou 9:10, with 5 minutes ahead of schedule, the second band of the evening is ready to give us some more metal. They’re Orbitlane, a metalcore band from Venice, and they are already more comfortable on stage and with the audience. They really know how to engage with the crowd, starting mosh pits and wall of death during their set. If I’m not mistaken, I spotted a member of Opal in Sky in one of them too! My favorite track that they’ve played is “Guidance“, and despite their limited time on stage, I saw that they were putting all their effort and passion into the performance.
Break Me Down
A couple of minutes before their scheduled time, it’s time for Break Me Down to take center stage in Verona. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing these amazing artists a few times, and yet this was their first time of perfoming just in three. Bass player Luke suffered an injury a few days ago, and whilst being able to perform in Padua on Friday, his pain was too great to be with his bandmates yesterday. We wish him a very speedy recovery! But if you think this in any way diminished the output of their set, you have absolutely no idea how incredible this band is. Somehow I thought that they were even better! Veronica really knows how to command the stage and engage with the audience, and also took a trip to the crowd herself during the set. I hope to see them again so soon, they were born to be on the stage!
Opal in Sky
All good things must come to an end though, and at 10:45 it’s time for the Canadian band Opal in Sky to close out the evening. I completely forgot to report that the music in between sets changed from deathcore to… Michael Bublè. That was so crazy! I was familiar with the two brothers as their content on social media is super engaging, and they’ve also managed to deliver a nice show in Verona. The show started with the request of all the audience to sit down, and then when the beat dropped everyone stood up jumping and moving. It was nice to see that they managed to get a few words in Italian too, like “grazie” and “acqua” (random, I know! But still, it was funny!). They played for less than an hour, and I was frankly expecting a longer set, but after four bands I’m not complaining. My favorite track was “The Quiet Type“, as I can relate to that song quite a lot. All in all it was a very nice evening, with some great discoveries and good music!
