Elder sits at the top of their field, a rare heavy band with a genuinely singular sound that has earned both widespread critical acclaim and a massive, devoted audience. The Massachusetts-to-Berlin transplants have conquered the world with their brand of long-form, psychedelic stoner rock, which effortlessly evokes the hypnotic sprawl of 70’s prog and fuses it with towering, fuzz-drenched guitar work. Elder cemented their greatness with the riff-forward stoner psych of Lore (2015) and the pensive doom/prog of Reflections of a Floating World (2017), but stumbled a bit with the more straightforward Omens (2020). 2022’s Innate Passage was never covered here, but it proved the band still had plenty of creative momentum, embracing mellotron-laced atmospherics and expansive prog excursions without losing the crushing guitar work at the heart of their appeal. Now, four years later, Through Zero arrives with early singles hinting at an even deeper dive into synth-heavy textures and cosmic reflection. Does Through Zero serve as another worthwhile addition to the Elder catalog?

Through Zero features many of Elder’s trademark mannerisms, but complicates their stoner inclinations in favor of more amorphous soundscapes that prioritize dynamics. Elder still deploys bombastic, fuzzed-out riffs and complex, interlocking rhythms and melodies, but they’re buoyed by longer stretches of calming, golden age Yesisms and introspective krautrock-flavored wanderings. Compositions don’t move between various parts as much as they unfurl seamlessly and organically, with meditative, odd-meter loops giving way to crushing guitar theatrics and emphatic hooks, all while maintaining an immaculate sense of psychedelic contemplation. While Elder still sounds like they’ve bottled the rare moments of transcendence that arise in the best of freeform jams, their songwriting now feels more intentional, grounded by a firm sense of contrast and a consistent push-and-pull that comes across as carefully patterned rather than formulaic. The band showcases a nuanced take on the classic and effective “soft/loud” paradigm, as tracks weave effortlessly between quiet deliberation and crushing grandeur, each shift serving to heighten the eventual climax of dizzying catharsis. This allows the stunning conclusion of songs like the title track and “Sight Unseen” to stand alongside the best Elder moments, rivalling the peaks of “Sanctuary” or “Illusory Motion” in resounding splendor.

Of course, these sonic journeys are only able to soar so high due to the strength of the individual parts and performances, with Elder’s veteran chemistry shining through across every facet of Through Zero. Elder truly move as one cohesive unit, main axeman and vocalist Nick DiSalvo leading the charge with jubilantly clean, single-note runs and multifaceted heavy guitar explosions (“Sigil to Ruin”). Behind him, the rhythm section follows perfectly in step, allowing complex patterns and grooves to coalesce into something instantly familiar. DiSalvo’s vocals are still the least impressive element, but he leans far more into an ethereal John Anderson tenor, using his voice to emphasize notable passages rather than to dominate them. Synthmaster and second guitarist Mike Risberg has been with the band for years, adding nuance to the longform meanderings and accenting powerful crescendos. On Through Zero, he’s given much more room to leave his mark. A song like “Capture/Release” demonstrates the added depth the Tales From the Topographic Oceans style synths can add, beginning with a stunning electronic shimmer and playful plinks and ending with a searing keys solo that serves as the cherry on top of an already impressive riff-fueled finale.

For all of its intricate musicianship and circuitous compositions, Through Zero is a remarkably easy record to get lost in. Despite 5 out of the 6 tracks approaching the 10-minute mark, no moment or motif overstays its welcome, and every crescendo feels earned. Elder themselves took part in the production and mixing process, and their attention to detail is evident in the record’s rich analog warmth that never sacrifices modernity. From subtle cymbal washes and gentle synth pulses to towering distorted guitar tones, every sonic peak and valley feels carefully placed, giving the music an unexpectedly serene quality. That sense of tranquility reaches its apex on the closing track, “Blighted Age,” one of the shortest and most subdued pieces in Elder’s catalog. Eschewing the monumental builds that define much of the album, the song unfolds as a contemplative acoustic meditation, bringing Through Zero to a quietly reflective close.

In many ways, Through Zero feels like the album Elder have been building towards across their storied career. It blends the psychedelic riff-porn of Lore and Reflections with the atmospheric synth prog of Innate Passage and even sharpens its approach with the more discernible structures of Omens. More importantly, it captures the sense of wonder and transcendence that has always made Elder special, delivering some of the most rewarding music of their career in the process.

Mit den ersten warmen Tagen richtet sich der Blick bei Eisbrecher direkt auf den Sommer. Die Münchner Industrial-Rocker gehen 2026 wieder auf große Open-Air- und Festivalrunde. Der Start fiel bereits auf den 24. Mai beim „Wir Leben Laut Festival“ in Loburg. Danach zieht sich die Band quer durch Europa.

Die Besonderheit der kommenden Saison liegt klar im Rahmen: weniger Einzelshows, dafür gezielt gesetzte Termine. Jedes Konzert wirkt damit wie ein eigenständiges Ereignis, kein Durchlaufprogramm. Genau diese Linie hat die Band um Alex Wesselsky in den letzten Jahren konsequent geschärft.

Wer Eisbrecher in den vergangenen Tourzyklen erlebt hat, kennt das Prinzip. Kein großer Schnickschnack, sondern klare Ansage, druckvoller Sound und eine Bühne, die auf maximale Wirkung ausgelegt ist. Diese Mischung bleibt auch 2026 der Kern.

Im Zentrum der Setlists steht weiterhin das aktuelle Album „Kaltfront“. Die Platte erschien 2025 und zeigt die Band fokussierter als in den Jahren zuvor. Elektronische Kälte trifft auf massive Gitarrenarbeit, dazu Texte über gesellschaftliche Reibung, Druck und innere Brüche. Songs aus diesem Album sind für die Live-Umsetzung gebaut, nicht für den Hintergrund.

Genau deshalb funktioniert das Material auf der Bühne so direkt. Keine langen Umwege, keine Verspieltheit. Eisbrecher arbeiten live mit klaren Strukturen, harten Breaks und einer Energie, die auf Festivalbühnen genauso greift wie in Clubs oder großen Hallen.

Die aktuelle Tourliste zeigt die Band erneut auf vielen großen Szene-Festivals. Darunter Namen wie „Alpen Flair“, „Summer Breeze“, „Amphi Festival“ oder „Motocultor Festival“ in Frankreich. Dazu kommen ausgewählte Einzelshows, etwa in Saarbrücken oder Pratteln.

Ein besonderer Fokus liegt 2026 auf der DACH-Region, ergänzt durch Italien und Frankreich. Die Mischung aus internationalen Festivals und gezielten Clubshows sorgt dafür, dass jedes Konzert eine eigene Dynamik bekommt.

Ein Termin sticht dabei bereits jetzt heraus: Augsburg ist ausverkauft. Die Show im Spectrum am 04.09.26 zeigt früh, wie groß die Nachfrage nach der Band weiterhin ist.

Thrash metal legends Slayer have officially sent shockwaves through the metal community today, confirming they are taking their massive 2026 comeback south for a string of headlining dates where they will perform the iconic ‘Reign in Blood’ album in its entirety.

The Return to Latin America

Marking their first time performing in the region since 2019, Slayer will hit five major cities across Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, and Brazil. This expansion comes as a direct response to the overwhelming demand following their high-profile appearances at Rocklahoma and Sick New World. For many fans, this represents a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity to see the 1986 masterpiece performed live by the legends themselves.

Local icons like Ultra Legends (Colombia) and Korzus (Brazil) are also slated to appear, making these mini-festivals a must-see for the global metal faithful.

Es gibt Konzertreihen, die funktionieren. Und es gibt Konzertreihen, die eine eigene Atmosphäre erschaffen. Genau dort bewegte sich Joachim Witt bereits 2025 mit seiner „Lux Aeterna“-Tour. Volle Kirchen, intensive Abende und ein Publikum, das die Shows oft eher als Erlebnis denn als klassisches Konzert beschrieb. In diesem Winter geht dieses außergewöhnliche Format nun in die nächste Runde.

Dabei hätte die Idee auf dem Papier schnell nach kalkulierter Gothic-Romantik klingen können. Tat sie live aber überhaupt nicht. Denn Joachim Witt nutzte die Kirchenräume nicht als dekorative Kulisse, sondern machte sie zum Teil der Musik. Hall, Stille und Architektur verschmolzen mit den Songs zu einer Stimmung, die man in normalen Clubs oder Mehrzweckhallen kaum erzeugen kann.

Wer die Tour 2025 erlebt hat, erinnert sich vermutlich noch an genau diese Momente. Sekunden absoluter Ruhe. Dann wieder gewaltige Klangflächen, dumpfe Percussion und Witts markante Stimme mitten im Kirchenschiff. Gerade ältere Songs entwickelten dadurch eine völlig neue Intensität.

Und genau darin liegt die Stärke von „Lux Aeterna“. Joachim Witt reduziert seine Musik nicht einfach auf „Akustik-Versionen“. Stattdessen entstehen neue Interpretationen, die deutlich düsterer, emotionaler und unmittelbarer wirken als viele der bekannten Studiofassungen.

Das passt erstaunlich gut zur Geschichte des Künstlers selbst. Seit den frühen Achtzigern gehört Joachim Witt zu den eigenständigsten Figuren der deutschen Rock- und Wave-Szene. Von der Neuen Deutschen Welle über seine späteren Industrial- und Gothic-Einflüsse bis heute zog sich immer eine gewisse Schwere durch seine Musik. Und auch in Kooperation mit Eisbrecher auf der letzten Tour war sein Auftritt bei „Zeitgeist“ – einem echten Ohrwurm – zeigte Herr Witt einmal mehr, was seine Genialität als Künstler ausmacht. Genau diese Wirkung entfaltet sich im sakralen Rahmen nun noch direkter.

Auch optisch setzt die Tour bewusst nicht auf große Effekte. Statt riesiger Videowände dominieren Kerzenlicht, Schatten, punktuelle Beleuchtung und die natürliche Wucht der historischen Räume. Genau das macht die Abende so intensiv.

Musikalisch dürfen sich Fans erneut auf einen Querschnitt durch vier Jahrzehnte Karriere freuen. Klassiker wie „Goldener Reiter“, „Die Flut“ oder „Herbergsvater“ gehören ebenso dazu wie neuere Songs, die gerade im Kirchenformat noch einmal deutlich an Tiefe gewinnen.

Dass dieses Konzept funktioniert, zeigte die Resonanz 2025 eindrucksvoll. Viele Termine waren nahezu ausverkauft. Auch deshalb dürfte die Nachfrage für die neue Tour schnell anziehen.
